As a Chinese, I just want to say that pinduoduo will become China's largest e-commerce company He's slowly replacing Alibaba

To really benefit from this, you’ll have to make friends or be involved in groups that are of similar stature and have similar needs. Otherwise, why would you want to be held back by your peers, feel excluded from the group because of differing interests or feel bad about your financial status? It’s not always possible to do that either. For example, when I was attending college, I did see a few kids from upper middle income families being completely spoiled by others (forming a majority of the students) from rural to lower middle income backgrounds. I had my own spending habits and was unwilling to give up on it. I did not want to be influenced by the peer group.

Careful. US may label PDD as threat to national security for its success.

Anyone can setup anything now, apps are meaningless for billions when anyone can make an app... all it takes is the hybrid of 2 good idea and to market it to the masses.

The only reason that contributes PDD’s successful is that it’s cheaper. Most people buy fruits from there. A whole box of apple or orange only costs about 20rmb which is about more or less 3 dollar? For 5 kg, including shipping fee. Other idioms also cheaper than taobao or JD, but people mostly buy cheap stuff there. And about the overworking culture, that’s because they pay staff more, sometimes three times more than taobao staff, people are not stupid, if they don’t want to work hard earn more, they can just change their job.

The reporter from Bloomberg is doing a very bad job with the interview with the Professor. The reports fair very poorly by 1) Asking incoherent and pointless questions. 2) Not letting the guest finish his statement before interrupting.

Eagerly awaiting the day I get to have a social credit score too. I think Biden can make it happen...for a price, say 10%.

I got a surprise for you. You already have a social credit score. You get your background checked for jobs, rental applications, and loans. They are looking at your criminal record, employment record, education, motor vehicle record, licenses, and many other things. Then they run your credit score. That checks all your financial records. The difference between China and US is that China just tells everyone they can see those things. The US uses propaganda to tell Americans they have freedom and privacy.

TheM0joDoj0 Making fun of Joe Biden hasn’t gotten my passport revoked or my bank accounts frozen, yet. Talk shi t about Chairman Xi and criticize the CCP on WeChat, see how it affects your credit score, and report back to us (assuming you can access the Internet from the labor camp).

Biden and the Democrats won't do it but the Republicans are eager to transfer your rights to business. When Democrats ran the country, workers and consumers were kings. Now, businesses write the laws.

hilarious pronunciation. in 2003 china started e commerce. West is hilariously far behind on this front. Now China is doing live streaming to move products on TaoBao. It will be decades before west does that also. I can't watch this its so dumb.

Technically the internet and e-commerce started in the west. There a bubble of internet tech stocks, most of them e-commerce, that popped in 1999.

The west do not have huge coverage and bandwidth to support such streaming service.

@Siri Priya I have no idea what you are talking about. China doesn't border with US, Chinese need visa to come into US. And you are Indian, so what does that has anything to do with you anyway ?

It appears consumer culture is much stronger in communist china 🇨🇳 than it is in Capitalist West, terrible.

Perhaps we in the West are not stupid enough to purchase off live streams. One day, we may be as poor and ignorant as Chinese consumers and catch up.
