Yes! Sandro is back!!!!! I have rain x and just purchased a neat 3 door Volkswagen up and plan on giving her the works when my 1 inch da polisher arrives for the A pillers and tougher spots which is where I get to work with CarPro Ceri Glass. This hobby keeps me seriously sane as I dont have much else to ease my ocd and feel great.

I love rain x. Very little fuss when applying and i think I’ve used one bottle from 10 years of detailing family and friend’s cars (and probably spilled more than I’ve used). I’d say thats pretty much bang on for MY expectations of a glass product.

Not sure what you were looking Sandro, but to my eye RainX is clearly the most hydrophobic (at least at the start), followed very closely by NV, Nextzett and Gyeon. Honestly can't judge Carpro from the small video that was at the bottom so won't say where that one fits in. Stoners was very clearly the least hydrophobic. Maybe things looked different in person, but that's just how I see it in this vid.

Hi Sandro, thanks for the time it has taken to do this testing on glass coatings. I was looking at applying a glass coating on my 2019 Tucson which is outside 24/7, but I found the combination of Turtle Ice Seal N Shine (new formula) with Rain-X Washer additive work great together. I only just added some Rain-X to washer bottle yesterday, whilst Seal N Shine was applied almost 2 months ago and still going strong on All the glass surfaces I applied it to. Even during that week of the heavy rain down the East Coast it worked fantastically. Thanks again for another intuitive video. Cheers, Ozz

Rain-X has one other great attribute: it will cause no trouble on surfaces with imbedded signal panels (e.g. side view mirrors). These cannot be prepared the same way windows can be, or so I've been told. So, I use Rain-X for mirrors.

I am so impressed you reviewed Rainx as well as these boutique products. It shows your curiosity and integrity in testing a range of products. I still have a bottle of Rainx that I was going to relegate to coating my shower doors since that has been ideal for reducing the soap scum deposits. But I’m impressed with Nuevo. Here in N. California we have such hard water....we’d have to polish the glass every time we need to apply these glass coatings. I’m not sure I want to repeatedly polish the windows to apply Rainx.

Sandro, I can’t thank you enough for these videos. Your ability to produce educational videos that on the surface (good pun) seem mundane in nature…enables someone to get the ‘why’ on what others end with ‘what’. The demonstrated information in your library not only shows how to do great work, but what is necessary to make reproducible quality work. I’d love to see another wax shootout when it makes sense for you to assemble.

Thanks for creating this informative video Sandro! I will need to re-watch it when I am ready to apply Carpro Flyby Forte on my car. Your last video on applying a ceramic coating came a week after I applied Gyeon Q2 View to my parents car. I followed the video by Gyeon Ambassador Yves Heylen and followed the 15 minute wait times between applications but I found the buffing off process very labor intensive. Despite preparing the glass washing, clay baring, cleaning and applying the polish product supplied manually I was not able to achieve the squeaky sound that is a good sign that the glass is prepared properly when applying the protective coating. Anyway my parents report the water is beading off the glass however I am not sure how long it will last. I am awaiting for the Max Shine 3" polisher to arrive through WaxIT. Thanks for listing all the items / products you use coupled with informative content is a real help that is allowing me to develop better habits in my passion for car detailing.

From my experience the problem with any hydrophobic coating is the hazing that occurs temporarily after each wipe of the wiper blade. This is inevitable as the wiper creates a thin coating of water on the screen that then breaks up into tiny droplets due to the hydrophobic nature of the coating. The effect only lasts briefly but is annoying. It is true that at higher speeds the wipers might not be needed ( or can be put on intermittent) as the wind speed clears the rain droplets away by itself - but at lower speeds the wipers will still be needed. So you get this hazing effect.
@andrewh9629

@jacobshank9362
@jacobshank9362 2 года назад
Idk if you have ever tried but you can apply coating to the wipers (best if new & cleaned as best as possible). Ive found with windshield coatings, best to just get newer wipers so that they have the strongest contact with windshield to prevent as much of that hazing as possible

100% agree with you Jonathan. So do you use nothing on your windshield now? I'm currently using nothing. I find glass coatings on windows also annoying in genuine rain because my eyes naturally focus on the beads at first glance instead of on the road ahead. I'd rather the water sheet.

Hey Sandro! What a surprise and funny situation! Rainy day here in Sweden, big windows from the floor to the ceiling coated by CarPro Reload (yes, don’t laugh please), my wife and I are enjoying windows water repellency and watching your video about almost the same! ))))) Let me add some little extra info maybe will be useful for you or for you Guys who are reading comments - I have applied CarPro Forte and CarPro Flyby 30 many times to my vehicles with different technics and the result was always approx. the same - working, but not as good as other cheaper water repellents on the market. And I got a possibility to talk to one of the CarPro Guys who has connection to chemical lab and he described me everything I need to know - as CarPro is manufactured in Korea and need to be imported to other countries (sorry, talking about the EU now) they need to have all the chemical certificates that they are “Earth Friendly”, etc and he told me exactly the thing inside chemical formalus which making the major effect of water repellency is not okay for certification, so they need to create their products without it. That’s why they are continuously working on the formula to achieve best result and that’s why the user guide looks like a mass. And as a result even this Guy advised me to use one of the EU product that don’t need to have import certificates and have “not Earth Friendly” chemicals inside. I have choose the one I was able to find out and it was rain repellent from Max Protect from UK (yes, before Brexit) and I have been surprised it is working like it should and much better of CarPro’s. Application experience was approx. the same as CarPro, three layers to windscreen, one to all other glasses. Experience and daily driving for 8 months - still working fine. Another thing to add Sandro - I have used rain repellent from Turtle Wax many years and I am love it still as I believe it’s working the best (as you have seen on the RainX on your video, I believe the product from Turtle Wax is from the same league). The one disappointment from the Turtle Wax product is need to be reapplied after one month. Nova is not available in Sweden, so need to continue with CarPro products which are the best I believe now and here) Sorry for such a long comment. Love your video and music! P.S: CarPro Reload is doing great on the house windows for 3 years now, washing them twice a year only 😊

I feel you on "not bonding as it should" for a long time I've used spray waxes on my windshield as a rain repellent. They more or less worked really well but with ceramics basically nothing (spray ceramics) would bond, and if it did it was extremely hit or miss. Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic causes my older cars windshield to head very well, does nothing on my new car, it just doesn't seem to cure to the surface. Mother's CMX seems to bond to both which is what has become my go to as I'm not a big fan of it's longevity in my climate on paint so sacrificing it for the windshield is some use for it.

I've always just used Rain-X and to this day, still do. It's cheap, it's easy to use and it performs amazingly (the water bead contact angles to me seem to be well in excess of 120 degrees). With that said, I always polish the glass with CarPro CeriGlass (and an old polishing pad, at the moment it's a lake country white foam pad) as I feel it's the only thing that truly gets the glass completely bare. You can tell it's completely bare when you wash it and rinse and the water is just completely flat. Even waxes bond to it and bead up when it's that clean. I know it's a bit overkill, as not every car needs it, specially not new ones, but since most cars in Puerto Rico have hard water-spots on them, that's just my preferred method. As for the Gyeon instructions, I think I understand what you mean and I agree. It seems to me they're just mystifying the process to make it appear more sophisticated than it is. I've never used it, but I bet their "primer polish" is just a regular cerium oxide based glass polish like CarPro's CeriGlass. Sandro, I've never felt the need to try anything else, as Rain-X has always pleased me with its results, but after watching this video, now I wanna give the Nextzett coating a try! It seemed to be the most hydrophobic out of the pack (even more so than the Nova coating) at least from the video, and at least before all that chemical torture. I understand it likely looks much different in person, but either way, the Nextzett is much cheaper than Nova, so I'll just try that one out! Thank you for always providing value in your videos Sandro, your effort to do testing and documenting/presenting it in such a nice and easy to digest manner and sharing your results with the world does not go by unnoticed and unappreciated. Oh and one more thing we agree on, Stoner makes an incredibly good glass cleaner! It's effective, it's cheap, and it also doubles as a panel-wipe. I use that instead of the much more expensive options like Gyeon Prep or CarPro Eraser when prepping the paint for a coating/sealant application.

Agreed on Aquapel. Its greatest merit is that it lasts really long with only one coating. After 7 months, all windows show that it remains (which the company claims), and windshield still has some protection (the company says to expect 6 months there). So, it took me almost no time to add a layer to the windshield and call it a day. In fairness, it's crazy expensive per oz. But there is zero waste because of its dispenser.

I've used RainX in the past, but lately, I've had more time to wash my car (so usually weekly) and just wipe the entire car down with bowdens boss gloss, or afterglow. This will usually be more than adequate for the windscreen to getgood enough beading that you don't require the wipers if its raining or you're doing 50+km/h. And seeing as its applied every weekend (at most, two weeks) it's only got to last that long. Plus, it doesn't take much time at all, seeing as the entire car is being wiped down any ways. Lazy. I guess.

You are absolutely right about the Carpro instruction mess Sandro. It is so important to do it the right way to get the best result so you need correct instructions but they make a complete mess of it. Unbelievable. Having (very) good products and destroying it with vague or wrong instructions. Recently I used their inside fog fight product and it became a complete mess. With sunlight or in the dark the windscreen became very dangerous and I had to remove the product. Again, wrong instructions? Hi Sandro great video again - I know that the wipers should also be coated to prevent chatter, but could you do multiple layers on them like you would the windscreen, or just stick to one layer and re-apply when necessary?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
You can certainly do multiple layers on the wipers - what I usually do is coat the wiper blades just before I switch to a clean cloth and then discard the cloth as it’s going to get rubber residue on it.

Excellent analysis, as always.... I've returned to using Nextzett after experimenting with more premium brands for a while and I find Nextzett as honestly being the best all rounder, and it causes absolutely zero wiper judder for me. At €9 a bottle here in Ireland, it is amazing value also... If applying any glass sealent, it is essential to (1) deep clean the wipers with a rubber cleaner or stong APC followed by a wipe with a paint prep IPA spray and (2) lift the wipers off the windscreen while the sealant is curing...... Another excellent Nextzett product is their is Kristall Klar windscreen wash. It's super powerful, yet safe on paint and rubber seals.

RainX is fantastic for what it cost but doesn’t play too well with wipers. I use it for all windows except the front windscreen. With a good application it can easily last up to 6 months with good water repelling performance.

Another great vid Sandro! Question; would it be ok to wash screen with dish detergent to fully strip it prior to coating process?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
Yes you could substitute that for your car wash detergent, but it may not remove any bonded fallout and it won’t replace the benefit of a good polish. That doesn’t mean you can just stick with that, it just means that the potential durability will be reduced and as long as you’re ok with that, that’s fine!

Great review! Have you used the NV Nova long term on any vehicles? Wondering if it suffers from wiper chatter.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
Wiper chatter tends to be more of a individual thing based on the specific car windscreen and wiper set up from the manufacturer - some are prone to chatter while others aren’t which is why many people get different results depending on the car. But Nova Glass in my experience which has been long term seems to largely avoid it.

I’ll stick with rain-X For the price, it still performed great! I don’t mind giving it a booster coat every 2-3 months…. and that’s all it needs. Just wash your car, and give it a quick coat and buff off. Yeah, do all the prep work for the first application, after that, just touch up coats work great.

I've been using Rain X for years and absolutely love it. I just spent 6 hours using Griot's Garage Clay Bar with their Speed Shine Lubricant, then polishing the windows with Griot's Garage Fine Glass Polish (Pinnacle Glass Polish is just as good) and then applied Rain X. I drove in my first rain storm today and can't believe how good Rain X is. For the money it's an outstanding buy. Rain X will last an extremely long time on the side and back windows. On the front window you will have to apply on average once a month. I don't care what Glass Coating you use when you put on your wiper blades on the coating won't last that long. I recommend Rain X & just apply it once a month on your front windshield. Please understand that you have to prepare the glass properly first by using a clay bar and then machine polishing thereafter. The results are so impressive. When I drove today for the first time in the rain the water didn't even stick to the side and rear windows.

Nice test. Though would be nice to simulate how good they hold up against wiper usage. I used Nextzett myself twice, once on clients car did crisscross application and let it sit 10 mins before buffing out, not sure how it’s holding up, 2nd time on wife’s car and buffed off right away as was recommended by nextzett official youtube channel, it was supposed to make buffing off easier, it was actually opposite, also not even month later while washing car could see how the coating is quite dead on the trails of wipers, i only did 1 layer though. Could notice poor performance while driving in rain as well. As i have read so many good things i will give it another try, will do 3 layers and circular motion on application. If you ever do another test, maybe also with physical durability test. It would be awesome to see products as: Gtechniq G1, Soft99 Ultra Glaco, Koch Chemie Nano Glass, Angelwax Exodus. Next to the champions of this test.

I've tried Forte, View, Rain X, and Stoner. Forte lasted me the longest even with wiper use. I've had past RainX windshield applications fail after one day and otherwise found it held more grime in general. Maybe I'm remembering wrong. I've been curious about Nextzett Glass. I'd probably use that on side and rear glass. Reminds me of Griot's Glass Sealant.

Really nice review Sandro. Thank you for your hard work and excellent description of all these glass sealants/coatings. Do you have any experience with Polishangel RAIN 9H glass coating? I was thinking about buying a bottle the next time I make an order from them. They also have their CRISTAL glass polish as a sort of primer and they recommend before applying the coating. I was just wondering if you had ever used those before and what they might be like as far as application, performance, and durability. They are pretty pricey (as all Polishangel stuff is) but I do love using Polishangel products!

Thanks mate, but I honestly can’t remember. I think I may have used it many years ago but certainly not more recently and as such I can’t recall what I thought of it. Although as you mentioned PA products are quite pricy they usually do perform quite well so I’d expect it to be good but unfortunately can’t provide anything beyond that mate.

@@CarCraftAutoDetailing OK Sandro. I appreciate it buddy. I am going to get it anyway and give it a shot after I use up my current glass sealant. The last glass sealant I got is the new Gyeon Quick View and I love the ease of application and removal with that one. It's fantastic how easy it is to apply and remove. Only problem I have had is the typical "jutter" you get with a glass sealant. If not for that it would be my favorite glass sealant. It's very similar (almost identical) in presentation, application, and removal to Soft 99 GLACO. Another one I really want to try is Wolf's Chemical Nano Glass Coating as that one is supposed to not have the jutter like some glass sealants or coatings do, but just a bit harder to apply and remove. Have a great one. Always look forward to your next video!

Generally if a paint ceramic coating works well on paint it will also work well on glass, however the real issue tends to be that paint coatings are more prone to wiper chatter.

Hey Sandro! Thanks for the comparison video. I went with NV Glass over CarPro awhile back for my window coating. It worked out great for me! I must say that RainX along with Turtle Wax are Big Boys that have stood the test of time and can still hold their own. Great video once again! I have a question about the NV Evo coating...I know through your past videos you stated that Evo was created as a one layer coating but could be layered if desired. How long should I wait to add the second layer? Thanks
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
That’s great to hear! In warmer climates you can layer Evo after approximately 3-4hrs, in colder climates it should be closer to 5-6hrs and an average would be about 4hrs. Alternatively if you miss that window you should wait 24-36hrs depending on the climate to layer.
