WHAT'S THE BEST JOHNNIE WALKER WHISKY? 

RE: Blind tasting... Where I do agree that blind tasting is the best way to determine your favorite whisky, I believe I would be unable to achieve valid blind results on these particular Johnnie Walker expressions because of how familiar I am with each of them. In my preparation for this review (as in all of my reviews) I try the whisky multiple times over weeks/months while taking detailed notes on smell and taste. If I did this review blind I would (for the most part) be able to tell which whisky I was tasting when I was tasting it, and therefore the test would not be 100% blind/valid. In my opinion and experience blind tastings only are accurate when you have not tried the particular whisky(s) before or are less familiar with them (see my live shows or "What's the best Pappy?" review). A blind tasting will give you a one-time result on your current preference on that particular day. However, I believe trying a whisky multiple times, getting to know a whisky, eliminating variables that could effect your palate (food/drink) by tasting on different days is the best way to review a product. I have tried many whiskies and I always make unbiased honest conclusions when scoring. Cheers, Jeremy.

Its easy to find an expensive whisky you like. The real trick is to find a cheap one you truly enjoy.

The “lack” of finish on the Blue Label is exactly why I like it. It’s a polite whiskey ☺️

I am a closet liquor snob and my prefference is for the Green. It is super dangerously drinkable and I always stock up when it is on sale. I also like to offer it to newbies as a gateway scotch. Nothing wrong with the black either, for the price it punches well above its weight.

Green Label hands down. 100% malt. Age statement. Most depth, and a long finish.

I think the Black, Double Black, and Green are the best bang for your buck in the lineup. But I would rate the Double Black below the Black. The peat smoke in the Double Black tricks people into thinking it is a better whisky, but in reality the Black is so well rounded and balanced for what it is, plus an age statement goes a long way in terms of quality, especially in blended stuff.

I was gifted a bottle of JW Blue last week and my initial response was that of disappointment. Its so smooth there is literally ZERO alcohol burn. Which made me think its just a weak ass whiskey. Now, at 40% ABV it is pretty weak/mild but I suppose thats the point. Taste is indeed good and mouthfeel is great. After a week and tasting it a few more times I do believe it is very good, though not my favorite Scotch. That still goes to Lagavulin or Laphroaig as Im a peat lover. Dont expect Blue to blow your mind, expect it to get out of the way and give you a buzz with the least amount of interference. Thats the best way I can describe it, it just gets out of the way.

I've tried every one of these and by far, prefer Green Label .

My favorite has got to be the Black Label. It has a special place in my heart: first whiskey I ever tried, we celebrated when my brother was hired for his first job! Thanks for the great and informative video.

Green label! Definitely. It's a blend of 15, 15 year old single malt quality scotches, 4 of them being popular and highly reviewed: Talisker, Caol Ila, Cragganmore, and Linkwood. The result when you blend high quality scotches is you get one hell of a good aged scotch blend. While there are a few more interesting scotches for a lil bit more price. Green label is still a solid 4/5 rating in my books. And reasonably priced.

I never really ‘got’ whisky, which is sacrilege as I’m Scottish, but when I tried the Johnnie blue I was converted. Absolutely love it, and opened a lot of doors into the whisky world for me. The most important thing is everyone’s tastes differ, find the whisky that works for you, drink it in a way that works for you, and just enjoy it. Unfortunately my favourite just so happens to be the most expensive in the JW range :-)

I've tried a number of JW whiskies and the Black Label remains my all time favorite. A great tipple for any occasion.

Green Label is Talisker, Linkwood, Caol Ila, and Cragganmore in various percentages. No Clynelish. Green is also the best because of a lack of grain.

Black label is the whisky that got me into whisky

IMO, Green is gives the best bang for the buck.

I quite like the red with a good dry ginger ale, it’s a bit rough on it’s own but somehow works really well with the dry. Neat, the double black is great value.

As a beginner I love the Black. The only thing is that it almost has no finish. Kinda what you described for the blue label. Otherwise I would preferred over the Gold and the Double Black.

The green is my favorite. The the black has a place in my heart since it was the 1st bottle I bought (could afford) when I was 21 lol.

Black Label was a favorite of Christopher Hitchens. The Blue Label tempted Leo McGarry.

My favorite is the Johnnie Walker Black. Can't beat the price and definitely better than the red.

Out of the Walker collection Black Label is my favorite, it's so full-bodied and tasty (especially for it's price range). But outside of that Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig QC and Talisker 10 are my favorites.

I have been drinking double black and platinum for many years and was my favorite for many years. But recently, I tried Glenmorangie 18 yrs and what a difference. I am not going back to JW. Glenmorangie 18 or 21 is going to be my drink !!

I bought a sample pack with black through blue (no green)for an overnight train ride I was taking. Fun working through it over the 2 days. 18 and Double Black were my favorite. $40 dollars at Binnys beverage depot

I’ve had Red, Black, and Double Black. Favorite of the three is Double Black. But I’ll drink Red neat all day.

Double Black is my fave in their lineup.

I feel Green Label is the best among the range, considering the cost factor. But Red Label + Club soda is awesome if you are on a budget!!

Excellent review! Answered every question that I ever had about Johnny Walker even though I’ve only ever had Red & Black labels. The Red is my sentimental favorite only because it was the favorite drink of my dearly departed relative who often shared his numerous in WW2 while we sipped on splashes of Red label on the rocks. My favorite is Johnnie Black. Never liked the taste of alcohol but the first time I tasted scotch I liked it was Johnnie Black.. I've had Red,Black, Double Black, Swing, Green and Blue but still like the taste of Black the best. Thank you for the video it was enjoyable. Hope I win

I have been drinking Black for many many years and find it very satisfactory. I tried Double Black when it first came out and found it superior but not always available for sale. I agree fully about Blue that it is too smooth and not worth the money. Red is really not a good drink.

I've had Red to Gold range but I keep going back to Double Black! I also actually prefer the Red over the standard Black.

The Platinum is one of my absolute favorites, but the Green, Black, and Double Black are great choices as well. Agree with your assessment , well done.

Gold is my favorite followed by 18 and then Green. Blue is next followed by Black and then Red. I didn't like Double Black since it had too much smoke and peat. I avoided buying Red for the longest time due to negative reviews but I eventually tried it and enjoyed it.

my review of johnny walker - nose : smells like whiskey, palate: taste like whiskey. Must drink! :) - I enjoyed this video. I drink black and blue. I can tell the difference between the two but after 5 drinks, everything taste the same.

For me Johny walker double black is best. According to it's Age, Taste & Price. Its a perfect, practical, blended scotch whisky.

As someone who bought a mini pack of almost all of these except these for the first time,, I can say my favorite thus far was somewhere between the double black label and the gold reserve. I guess their particular tasting notes and aromas just matched well with my palate on that day better than the rest. Blue label was after those, but man, if only it were less expensive. Gold and black label were alright. I'd mark them down at the same rank as blue, but way less killer on my wallet. Red is... something I wouldn't mind mixing into stuff, but maybe not drinking straight.

I drink blue label for special occasions. Its very smooth. I buy it on sale though. 149 at Costco. Very good deal! A restaurant near me charges 42$ a shot! I might as well buy the bottle :p

Honestly. I love Johnnie Black. It's been my go to for years I love it neat with water and as a call brand in a blood and sand. But.....I'm so glad I live in the US B/c there is no way it's a $50 bottle.

I have a fondness for the black label because it was the first scotch that I ever tried.

Blue too expensive for me, not a fan of the Gold and will only have the Red with coke (coca-cola not cocaine).

Double black and green are my fave. Swing is my favorite cheapo.

customers were right to be outraged because of discontinued green label. Its the best bang for the buck. Red is great for poisoning your enemies or removing paint.

I'd have to agree the green is the best value. But if you want to ease into peated Scotch, double black is a fine start.

Normally get laughed at for drinking scotch at such a young age, my favourite walker has to be probably green, not too cheap not too expensive and can happily sip that all night, find it refreshing without a mixer

Nice review. The whole lineup is fairly diverse. My two favs are green label (always in the cabinet) and the 18 year old for various occasions. I find those two to really be up there for blends, even beating out the blended single malts, like Balvenie doublewood and Macallan triple cask. Both of which I like very much. Throw in some Japanese whiskeys, and the competition gets stiff. Hibiki harmony is another good one, too.

As an Expat who works and travels around the world, we drink Double Back, unless some one else is paying then it is Blue :)

Great overview and I'd have to agree. For my budget and my tastes, the Black Label is my go to. Green if I'm in a more fruity mood and 18 if I'm splurging.

Some friends and I went through the range once. Then we went a step beyond.: our favorite was when we blended the Double Black with the Blue. Combine a little more smoke with the Blue's mouth feel.

Haven't got into too many scotches yet. Been eyeballing a Johnny walker to try for the price after this video I'll skip red and start with black. Great review.

A totally agree with your Blue and Green notes. Blue has an odd mouth feel in that it is so satin. Blue finish vanishes, and I was as surprised as you seemed to be. Great review. My only comment is that Black has a strong tanned leather note that I think needs mentioning. Maybe it's just my tastebuds, though. Green is my fav, though I haven't tried DB, 18, or Gold. Time to head to lcbo for gold to add to my collection. I see that Diageo has started putting out Mortlach again and will have to comb through your reviews after finding your channel. Cheers!

I prefer the Double Black or the 18 year old Platinum myself. I don’t care much for Red, except when mixed; as you astutely pointed out, it’s best when mixed. Black is one I’ll mix with soda as opposed to drinking it neat. The Double Black’s smokiness makes it a neat sipper for me. I did not realize that the 40% ABV was a result of dilution with water. That explains why I never have been impressed with any of the Johnny Walkers neat WITH a splash of water. It appears it’s already bottled that way. lol 😆All in all, the two I mentioned as my winners with Black as a distant third, are my go to Scotch is because of their ubiquitous nature. That does not mean a better grade or more peat and smoke endued Scotch is not worthy of my consideration. The ones I enjoy are just not found unless I’m frequenting a higher end establishment. As a musician playing in local clubs, the better Scotches are not always available.

For me, the Green is usually my go-to out of the range. Just drinking the 200 Celebratory Blend and it’s superb. Cheers.

My favorite is the Green, I noticed they used Taliskers in the blend, but I buy the double black far more often just because of the price. The 18 year old is a close third mainly cuz I am cheap

Bro really good video! I just feel ur missing an element to judge on. The smoothness of the whiskey is important too. The higher up the price ladder you go - I find the easier it is to drink. The Platinum label is my favourite not based on price but just how crazy smooth it is. Its so smooth it can slide uphill! Great video tho appreciate the unbiased opinions.

I have tried the black, double black, and green. All great. Green is lovely and smooth.

Let's start with the Red. Ok... I'll give it a fair score. I can drink it. By the end: Everything except the red. It's a mixer. It's dog shit. I'm not drinking it. LOLOLOLOL

For me the best Johnnie Walker price-quality-ratio is the Blender's Batch Red Rye finish. Great stuff for 30 € and you probably get it much cheaper outside Finland. Otherwise I dont buy much Johnnie Walker-products because there are much better options for the same price.

Green Label is definitely my go-to in the JW line. I couldn't agree more on the Blue, the nose is spectacular but the taste is less pleasing and the finish...well, what finish. It disappears completely. All JW (in my opinion) aren't known for a long lasting mouth finish, but the Blue is especially disappointing, especially given the price.

Nice and spot on. Only the Blue, it has the most oak, smoke taste and it goes down so smooth, kinda disappears...then smoothly raises up again. That is what I find most distinctive for the blue. Regardless, its too expensive.

Green Label is by the far the superior product in my opinion, especially when considering the price variance.

My favorite johnnie walker is definitely green label. Second would be Johnnie Walker 18.

My fav Johnnie Walker overall is definitely blue label and black label as a runner up.

It's an extremely interesting experience to watch a video comparing the whiskeys that you have in your cupboard, and then pouring a drink of each and then thinking, "Oh yeah, there are notes of citrus and vanilla! How have I never noticed?" I had all but Red, Platinum and Blue, not a huge fan of Platinum. JW is the best whiskey you'll get for a decent price in my country, there are better whiskeys, but they're priced out of reach and worth unfortunately, so I've had no choice but to become a connoisseur of cheap whiskeys

Platinum 18 yr old, my favorite Scotch whiskey to this day. Still haven't tried the blue or green label, but that 18 man. I'm a bourbon guy raised in KY, but to this day the JW 18 which is the second to last on your table is my favorite whiskey in terms of scotch. An is up there with even some of my favorite bourbon whiskeys. Sometimes being a bourbon guy it Hurts my pride knowing that I almost like that JW Scotch better than alot of high end bourbons.

Super disappointed they got rid of gold label. Even platinum label was pretty good. But gold label reserve and the new 18 year old just dont hold up. Double black is good for the price, green still has a spot on my shelf and Blue is good but really has trouble with single malts in the same price range. For the money you need to throw down on Johnny Walker I would say your money would be better spent with Glenmoramgie

First time I tried JW Blue, I was staying at a Marriott in Dallas. I'd taken my kid and her girlfriend to the anime convention over there and I was bored out of my mind (no offense to the anime connoisseurs out there, when I was coming up it was all just called cartoons). I decided to give it a go because I'd always seen it at the store, but wasn't gonna buy a bottle at that price without trying it first. It was a nice treat to have on occasion, but on my budget it's relegated to a very rare treat and not a regular indulgence. I like the Gold a lot, I like Black a lot, never had green. Platinum is good too. But I tend to stick to the Glenlivet. 12 for regular sipping, 18 for celebrations.

I’ve tried every single one and some other special edition JW. Still go back to Green for my daily drinks.
