People be sleepin on Welty. The Gucci line “95 air max because I’m a dope runner” more than validates how culturally aware he is. In Baltimore the 95’s and Foams was dope boy shoes, and when we heard Gucci say that it was OVER! (Shout to Welty)
While I appreciate the insight, knowledge and experiences that the guest bring I have to agree. I think that full size run was the better medium for guest
Please rate the best New Balance models next - it would be fitting, especially with their popularity lately (although they’ve always been popular to some!). Thanks guys - great work!
You guys completely missed the point with Action Bronson release - people weren’t mad at the bots, people were mad that the shoe was gone before the allotted time release because the password on the website was so bad people guessed it immediately. They were sold out 15 minutes before most people even got the chance to get them.
Yeah it was a rough one I grabbed a size 10 on stock x for 350$ all in and was happy to get them for that I got the lapis lazulis last year and was so pleased with them I’m a huge fan
Exactly, the botters got the password very quickly and they sold out like 10 min before the official launch. I had a projected wait time of 5 min for size 11 and they sold out after less than a minute of waiting at 10:50
Love the show. I travel internationally for work. Since I’ve been watching/listening to the show I started observing what shoes people are wearing. From my tiny perspective, “sneaker heads” myopically focus on Nike. In the real world, as large as their market share is, people are wearing any number of brands. It would be interesting to see the show focus on more brands (shout out Welty).
My list: Air Max 1s, Air Max 90s, and then either 180s or 95s. I had an original pair of 180s as a kid, so they have a special place in my heart. Still debating whether or not to pick up this year's release. Side note: I can't believe the guys didn't mention the Air Max 90 Bacons. Those are fire!
Air max 1 are the best air max without a doubt. When you look at the colabs, atmos elephants, viotechs, cherrywoods, amsterdams, chlorophylls, lucky greens, denims, atmos safaris and even the size safaris. Look at the watermelons and pink flamingos and they’re GRs. All iconic imo
I love this show. I’m always happy on the weeks that you guys are there. I have been thinking about what Matt said about wearing comfortable shoes as you get old. I am 67 years old and for a lot of years didn’t really like to wear air Jordans because I thought they were uncomfortable. I don’t know if Jordans have changed, but these days in my very old age Jordans are the most comfortable shoes and running shoes without much support and feel kind of floppy are not as comfortable for me these days. But when I was in my 40s and 50s. I did not think this way at any rate, keep up the good work. You guys sure do a wonderful job that is interesting every time you’re on. Joel LaPuma is an amazing host.
The Olympic Air Max Triax 96s were my favorite shoes. I worked to buy those when all my friends were buying jordans. Probably one of my favorite shoes of all time.
Thanks for showing Air Max some love i love the AM90s then close second is AM1s ive got too many pairs i become fatigued deciding on which to pick for the day to wear. Great episode gang gang
I feel like the Air Max Tailwind line is seriously underrated and completely looked over in this conversation. They fit the Air Max tech & running shoe line requirements too.
28:19 So if the tip is over the eye stay then you can rock them more ways because you can leave the tip out when you lace them up. You don’t have that option on the newer joints
The first time i saw the air max shoe was in 2014, i was 14 years old and it was the air max 90.. bruh i was in love with that shoe but couldn't get it as i wanted the specific colorway in which was the infrared (red and white), 4 years later 2018 i bought them and they still fresh as we speak but now im looking for the air max 1 with a baby blue and white colorway ❤🔥 🇿🇦
Good to hear so much Air Max talk for once 😌. Surprised Welty was cooking so much. Unpopular opinion, but I'd say the forgotten middle child in the Air Max Light is arguably better than the AM1 AND maybe even AM90's because it's such a clean evolution between the two. AM90, in the UnRecrafted shape, reigns supreme though.
Air Max are so iconic, it’s hard to choose but I think the ranking is spot on. Such a fun shoe and so much nostalgia every time I slip on any of these pairs. Great episode!
I've been watching/listening to the show for a couple years now and there's a lot of assumed knowledge that is mentioned (especially by Brendan Dunne) which isn't an attack on anyone, its just, I really enjoy when any of the three of you takes the time to explain the design language, the history or the story of a shoe like Welty did with the Air Max 95. I get that the nuanced difference of the SB that Dunne was sharing isn't the most exciting content but I hope that he isn't discouraged from getting into stuff like that because I'm here for it, even if it is boring, you gotta get through the boring sometimes to learn and fully appreciate the cool.
What where the 95s and 97s going for back in the early 2000s I can’t remember if it was 150$ or a little bit more it was alot for those days but the comfort level was definitely worth the extra bread
@@kendressel1608 😂😝 couldn’t just pick one aye! I think personally the question should be “best air max colour way of each iconic model” I just can’t pick one model!!!
The Dunk extra layer around the bottom laces thing was a modification done for skateboarding, to give the skater the option to lace underneath the flap and prevent the laces from breaking under ollie's and flip tricks. It depends on which model SBs have it. Same goes for the turn-and-stitch toebox stitching, which is also for skate durability. All the pro and premium SBs have the flap. You can visually tell if its the old-style SB or the new style SB by looking at the sole of the shoe and seeing if there is a piece of exposed foam in the center. If it's there, it will also have the other durability modifications. For some very limited models, they go back to the OG style without it (ie Futura, orange lobsters, HUFs, etc).
Good conversation fellas. I’m glad you guys included my favorite air maxes which is the air max plus “tigers”. I wish you guys discussed the tailwinds. Tailwinds and pluses owned the late 90s/early 2000s down in Texas.
I wish you guys would talk about Air Max runners and trainers from the late 90s and early 2000s. The whole Bowerman Series line and Alpha Project line had so many Air Max and Air Zoom gems that are now considered obsolete such as one of the biggest JLP shoes, the Nike Air Zoom Citizen.
Big fan, love what yall do, small observation. As far as what's on feet goes...Welty's been cooking yall for a minute! No hate. Maybe a little hate, LOL. Keep it funky!
I love the 1's and 90's, but, for me: The 1991 "BW Classics" are the definitive Air Max. By far, the best looking and had some of the coolest colour schemes. More recently, I really like the Air Max SC's and Air Max Command. Unpopular opinion: I've always thought the 95's were hideous. Maybe it's just because I prefer simpler designs, like the ones I mentioned before. But, yeah: The "BW Classics" are definitely my favourite Air Max of all time. Maybe even my top shoe of all time. Definitely Top 3. Would love to see you guys do a similar video about Reebok Pump and/or Adidas Torsion.
1s will forever be my favorite, but the 2090 is so comfy and ridiculously underrated. I think they will be a TN or a Plus (as far as recognition) in like 20 years. Would love New Balance discussion, 998s are mine
My top Air Max models are 1) AM90, 2) AM95, 3) AM1, 4) AM97. When factoring in collaborations: 1) AM1, 2) AM95, 3) AM 97 (from the 97/1 wotherspoons, tbh), 4) AM 90
What's interesting about the Korea Astro Grabber take is that had Joe went there maybe a month ago, he would have seen nothing but Air Forces and NB. Korea is interesting in their fashion because they truly run on like a Trend Calendar. Always saw everyone in the "Trendy" item whenever I visited. Really cool to see if anyone gets the chance.
Ive always been a huge 90 guy....my favorite all time would have to infrared...just a classic...in no particular order after that would be the bacon release, the camo pack, volt (another classic), the powerwall release (just a perfect colorway) and the "batman" release....but in all honesty, they go crazy with the colorways on the 90's and it makes for some very remarkable releases if your a "multi-color" person like i am...couple that with the comfort of the 90 its a perfect sneaker!
There are 2 different versions of an SB Dunk that are almost completely different. The "OG" Shape that was used from inception to around 2012 for the 10th anniversary if Nike SB. They updated the tech in the entire SB Dunk model starting with I BELIEVE the Red Cement Supreme SB Dunk. They added the memory foam heel pods in sock liner, the flap you guys talked about on bottom 2 eyelets to protect against skate wear, added a Phylon cushion to the midsole and updated the outsole for better traction. BUT collaborators can still choose to do the "OG shape" to this day. Futura did, Concepts Lobsters all did, Supreme still does, etc.
Another great one. In terms of tier lists, I think only Jordan/Nike, Adidas, and New Balance have enough heritage and quality models to deserve a tier list. After that I think a fun twist on this theme that allows a lot of debate and cultural reference points is doing a full March Madness style bracket and debate all time collabs or colorways/models inclusive of all brands to determine the best ones overall. Could do a OG colorway and collab version of the bracket too.
My personal opinion, Infrared AM90 is in the running for GOAT sneaker. When you factor in the looks and the comfort and the history, it's just a really tough shoe to top. To this day they're still on the short list of shoes I'll pack if I'm going on a trip where I know I'll be doing a lot of walking along with NB 990v6, NB 2002R (or any of those with the 860v2 sole) and Ultra Boosts. And they came out decades before any of those other shoes.
I would love to see the forgotten Nike Air Accel trainers (mid high) from 1992 and the Nike Air Max ST in the Og CW ánd the 80s early 90s L.A.GEAR sneakers.
the dunk's shape and design pretty timeless. It can go with many many styles of outfit, that's why my rotation consist of mainly sb dunks with occasional adidas superstars when the pants goes narrow. I would say the same for air force 1s, pretty much the "everything" shoe.
i rocked airmax 1 and air max 90 for more or less 10 years before sneaker marked exploded, from 90 to 2000more or less, cant choose between those 2 even if now i dont use any of that in the last 15 years, i said use because i still buy em
