You can buy VOC free Danish oil. But good advice to recognise these issues.

Being a decorator. I can see you have been doing your homework. The one is oil based and the other is water based. Big difference. Check out my last video. The valspar is the top of the range of paints. Its worth every penny and being the v700 its not just wipe able its scrub able. Nice one.

Hi Mel just for reference not all Danish oil contains VOC’s. yeah that is the rub, the VOC's are more prevalent in the products that last longer. I used a waterbased polyeurathane better then the regular clear polyeurathane, but has some VOC's so i let it air for a week outside to help speed it up.

Thanks, mate! I decided to use as much as possible organic stuff for my next build. As least as possible poisonous crap that's made by the chemical industry out of mineral oil which all ends as non-recyclable dump.

Hi Mel, just Googled off gassing and virtually all man made products seem to off gas to a certain degree. From carpets, mattresses furniture, plastics, manufactured wood boards etc to the products you describe that you would be more aware of as they are clearly labelled. Must be a meter of some kind that could measure the air quality and off gassing that could be used in confined spaces. Great videos Mel always look forward to the next one.

Mel, you were swinging those paint cans around a bit bravely close to those precious curtains, I thought there was going to be a disaster! XD

Mel didn't have to worry to much about those curtains if it happend. Those curtains are washable on 30 or even 40 degrees Celcius The lining could shrink a bit, but at that hight it would only shrink a millimeter or 5. So don't worry to much, moreover the paint and varnish Mel used is water-based so when he doesn't wait to long with washing, it should all wash out. So Mel, remember to write it down: Curtains, washable on 40° celcius, on woolwashprogram, no centrifuge no dryer, just hang them to dry on their hooks on a line and theil be fine. O, and use a delicate detergent and a drop of fabric-softener in the final rince, it will make the fabric antistatic. Can't remember if I told you in the added note already but this is my best advice.

the only problem with waterbased paint it's not as hard-wearing as oil base paint that's why I don't use it

Hi Mel. I've just subscribed. Great practical videos that are helping me do my conversion - thank you. Question on tongue & groove. Did you find over time the T&G contracted/expanded and some natural wood colour could be seen? If so anyway I can prevent this?

Mel, quick question on an unrelated point. When gluing the floor supports. Not sure if they are joists? Is it necessary to have a continuous bead of Silkaflex or whatever adhesive? I'm worried I might use it too quickly and it is very strong.

Just glued down the last lot in our Boxer. Silkaflex is strong!. I used tie down points to hold down the battens/joists with M8 bolts and some cross pieces. I positioned the battens out of place and put the glue dobs and then slid the battens into place over the glue dobs. After which I bolted the whole lot down and left overnight. I prepped it with isopropyl alcohol. Just thought I'd leave this, Mel in case it might help others. I took a while to figure out how to go about it.

Hi, I just painted the woodwork in my bedroom with satin paint. Just checked the tin and it says high VOC 25-50% so even though the smell is gone do you think it's still dangerous to sleep in the bedroom? If so, should I paint over it with low VOC paint? What do you think, am I worrying about nothing?
