Just one thing you missed about Cute Charm: As genders aren't defined for individual Pokemon in this game, the Attract status works on ALL Pokemon, up to and including Pokemon who should normally be immune, such as Metagross or most Legendaries. This essentially means that Cute Charm is a better version of Pikachu's Static!

Lol I guess the game devs got a bit lazy cuz in explorers genders were defined.

Guts doesn’t just activate on the typical status conditions (poison, burn, etc), it activates on any negative status such as a speed drop, confusion, or having a move sealed.
@DiegoG2004
@DiegoG2004 4 года назад
And Facade also gets double damage with those effects. And Pursuit's damage boost also activates on fliched Pokemon (and maybe Charmed too. There's another use for Cute Charm!)

Wait so if someone with guts uses close combat that lowers defenses, does Guts double the power? Also never played a PMD game so I don't know anything about it.
@silverthehero1295
@silverthehero1295 4 года назад
Nick Light In PMD the speed stat doesn’t affect the order of moves, but how much damage you take from speed based attacks. Changes to speed in a dungeon can affect how many moves you can make but last only so long, so it’s treated as a status. So no, other stat drops won’t buff guts. Sorry for the long explanation.
@DiegoG2004
@DiegoG2004 4 года назад
@@karmadarkyt3169 So, to summarize: Your speed being lowered (slowed, everyone has two moves after yours) or increased (quick, you get up to 4 moves before your opponent) both count as status effects, but any other stat being changed (a.k.a. buffed and debuffed) don't.
@JamUsagi
@JamUsagi 2 года назад
Worth noting: in RTDX Speed and Movement Speed are 2 different things. Speed is a base stat that affects (I believe) the chance to attack twice in one turn. Cannot be changed in battle. Movement speed is the number of tiles you can walk before your turn ends. Doing anything except moving or waiting (attacking, using an item etc) ends your turn regardless of Movement Speed. Starts off as 1 for all Pokemon, but can be changed temporarily mid-battle with moves. They did this because Speed-boosting moves used to let you attack more than once in the same turn, which was COMPLETELY busted. Imagine Articuno using Agility four times on the first turn, and then Powder Snow (which hits the whole room) 3-4 times per turn for the next several turns. Then realise that THIS WAS A MANDATORY STORY BOSS. When all you have at this point is two starter Pokemon, BOTH OF WHICH CAN BE WEAK TO ICE. Yeah, the change was needed.

Pickup isn't that bad and you can get nice things from it. Pay day is also kinda cute. If you like collecting stuff, Meowth is excellent so I guess that's a flavour win? It's coverage is also not that bad and I'm not sure on the stats, but they work fairly differently to the main game. For instance speed is not Slowpoke's worst stat in mystery dungeon, special defense is. Not sure if bug or whatever that someone put the numbers for SpeD and Speed backwards but meh. As for Bulbasaur, during the main story, yeah it's not so good but at least it does have Sleep Powder which as said is good in boss battles. Growth which comes a bit later can be quite nice too. Chikorita is not so fortunate. Venusaur (and Meganium) do get access to Petal blizzard which is amazing, so good things come to those who wait?

I use skitty because the move pool is amazing. Skitty does have the downside of having very weak stats but if you take the time to get lots of power boosting drinks from quest rewards, skitty is absolutely busted. My moves are Double Slap, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, and Shadowball. Double slap kills everything and does around 50 damage per hit. I have the accuracy pretty much maxed so it always hits which makes it completely broken. Blizzard kills everything in an entire room, good for monster houses. Then I have Shadowball for range and coverage and Thunderbolt for coverage and it hits all pokemon around you which is also good for monster houses. Ps. Skitty is currently level 25

Actually I personally think grass types are really good in this game so I think the "grass types are bad" is a myth or personal bias at least in the case of mystery dungeon. I mean sure they are weak to all the legendary birds, but you can easily bypass this with a move like sing or sleep powder and most grass types can learn a rock type move which obliterates Moltres and Articuno while Zapdos can be ganked with a massive army of 8 team mates

So I got Eevee and picked Psyduck as a partner (cuz that’s what a friend of mine got) and I later picked up an Oddish as a third member. They are. Absolutely. Ridiculous. I taught Psyduck Blizzard and Ice Beam via TM, Oddish learnt Sweet Scent, Stun Spore and Moonlight (the first two I linked) and Eevee had Helping Hand and Refresh. I‘m sure you can imagine the result: Weather? Don‘t care, got cloud nine. Use sweet scent-stun spore once and have a guaranteed paralysis and chance for blizzard to hit, and buff the shit out of my team with helping hand. Also, no need for recovery items, as I can heal status ailments with refresh and health with moonlight. My immediate post story lv 30 team swept lv 50 moltres without taking a single hit.

@9600GTMAN I used my psyduck as a ranged combatant, and to give it variety for sniping mons from behind in thin corridors I gave it a ranged ice and water move (which I didn't mention since it didn't play into my boss beating strat), since psychic didn't really lend itself well for that from what I could tell. And I also wanted a move hitting every mon in the room for monster rooms, which Blizzard was really good for. Also, ice is really strong against many of this games bosses.

Seeker I mean, it works like a charm, but it mostly only fell into place for me through luck. After all, Blizzard I just bought for Psyduck cuz I really wanted a room covering attack and Stun Spore was the first paralysis attack I had access to which I felt would be useful on my team, the other moves were all learnt by level up and filled the gaps really nicely.

The perfect support. Chikorita gets STAB+Overgrow Giga Drain, Energy Ball for range, AncientPower for all of Grass’s resisting types, and Natural Gift for an adaptable physical move. As a Skitty player myself, it makes me smile to see that Skitty is considered one of the best in PMD DX! Now, I like playing as a Skitty even in the Explorers games. Sure, it can be a pain in the butt to have Normalize, but I still have Cute Charm so that can help and it allows me to still hit any Pokemon! I just get very nerfed when fighting Pokemon that resist normal type moves. But in Rescue Team DX... I got super lucky, getting the TMs for Thunderbolt and Ice Beam pretty early, and I kept those moves for the whole game. And when I got Doubleslap, I can really start dealing damage! Ice Beam is a good move to hit from far away, Thunderbolt can hit any enemies around me and Doubleslap works great on bosses! Cubone is my partner and Brutal Swing is just as you describe, I never removed it from her moveset. Bonemarang is a great move as well. Skitty and Cubone make a very solid duo to play through the main game with! I'm thinking of being an Eevee next time, but I'm not sure who to make as my partner if I do. But I will always be a Skitty girl at heart... even when Normalize gets in my way, I won't let it stop me! Edit: Also, I'm sure you know this now, but it's not tricky to evolve Eevee here! Any Pokemon that need an item or whatever else they would need just needs to get some Evolution Crystals! You can get two pretty easily when you beat the game, you just have to get through Waterfall Pond, which is only 19 floors. And since you are allowed to pick, it's not a problem at all really!

That's not something new to Rescue Team DX, either; Skitty was also considered game-breakingly powerful in the original Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team as well, for one simple reason: Genders aren't defined for Pokemon. This is important because it means nobody is immune to being hit by Attract or other effects that cause infatuation (Like Cute Charm), not even normally genderless Pokemon like Magnezone, Metagross or most legendaries. And Skitty gets both Cute Charm and natural access to Attract. Needless to say, it meant Skitty was VERY good at locking down targets. It's not as effective in DX due to bosses being able to remove statuses from themselves after a turn or two, but it's still great.

To save time for anybody who's watching recently, Skitty, Cubone, and Psyduck are pretty much some of the best starters. Cubone is broken early game with its starting moves, and even more broken later with bonemerang. The moves it starts with are pretty much the moves you'll use for the rest of the game, with the exception of bone club for bonemerang and headbutt for the rock slide TM or something else. That's how good Cubone's starting moves are. Skitty has good versatility with it being able to learn thunderbolt/thunder, ice beam/blizzard, and shadow ball TM's. It also learns double-slap which is absolutely broken with the rapid bull eyes rare quality. If you're not able to get any of these TM's early on, you still have moves like charge beam, attract, and sing. I didn't find the shadow ball TM for a long time, so I ended up linking sing with double slap, allowing me to put enemies asleep then easily K.O. them if they get too close. Anyways, I never actually used Psyduck, but with cubone's electric rod ability, you can absorb electric moves for your partner Psyduck, although Cubone is a better physical attacker than special, so you don't have much of a use with the boosted special attack. Psyduck has a good ability as well, (i think) and also can learns lots of TM's similar to skitty. A bunch of other starters are good too, but the ones I listed are known to be some of the best starters ingame. Charmander and Treecko/Mudkip are a great duo, because they have huge movepools and versatility, and also ontop of that they have solid mega's when fully evolved, so use them too if you want. Also just because I didn't list a starter, doesn't mean it's not good. Eevee, Torchic, and Machop are really good pokémon as well. Try them before deciding they aren't good. That's really all the tips I have for starters though, but on the other hand I can tell you about good early game pokémon. The Magnetmite you get for free is great, it's really defensive, already knows a lot of good moves, and can learn a lot more. Definitely a good pokémon for early game and slightly late game. Exeggcutor is great, and is as easy to obtain as the free Magnetmite you get. It can know confusion and seed bomb, which are super good moves if you link them together. Exeggcutor also knows barrage, which is a ranged double-slap, making it really overpowered with the rapid bull eyes rare quality too. Make sure to check Gulpin's move reminder if exeggcutor doesn't know these moves. Those are all the early game pokémon that I know good, and for late game I unfortunately don't know many good pokémon for it. I have heard Altaria is broken, but i've never used it so I'm not sure. You can probably find your own late game pokémon if you're starters aren't good enough for late game somehow. That's all the tips I can share, so I hope it helped.

The crazy thing about lightning rod is that for dungeons like Mt Thunder in the main game and Thunder Field in the postgame, enemies will constantly waste their turns if you have a water type partner because they'll keep on trying to exploit that partner's weakness only for their moves to be redirected to you every single time.

My experience with Bulbasaur/Skitty was very positive. I found that my player Bulbasaur was able to tank a lot of attacks in spite of the abundant weaknesses grass has. Since TMs are so abundant in this game I was able to snag Sludge Bomb and Energy Ball and absolutely ruin all the boss's days with them. (Sad that bullet seed TM was snapped out of existence but oh well.) No trouble with being 1 or 2 shot here! Heck, I have yet to wipe with Bulba just by playing smartly with ranged attacks. (Though I did come prepared with reviver seeds just in case) Skitty has a passive ability which makes me happy whenever I see it. it's a 10/10 partner. I love its base move pool and TM access. Give your Skitty Ice Beam, you will not be disappointed.

Start with Cubone and level until you learn Bonemerang. While you level to this point, unlock the Rare trait Steamroll, which allows moved to still deal damage when they would normally fail. Example: Normally bonemerang has no effect on flying enemies, but with this trait any pokemon is fair game, even ones who have the Levitate ability to resist ground-type moves. Increase its power or maybe link it with another powerful move and you have a beast. Not only that, Cubone can learn Ice Beam, Blizzard, and Flamethrower. both incredible moves to start the game off If you're still not convinced, he and the rest of your team are competely immune to electric attacks because his lighning rod ability absorbs any electric attack in the room and uses it to increase cubone's own stats. You really didn't do my boy any justice:(

Psyduck + Cubone is the best combo throughout the entire game hands down. It’s good literally as soon as you get it, and the only thing you need to get to make it impossible to beat is Ice Beam TM for Psyduck, which due to the changes to Keckleon shop is really easy to get. You can make an argument for Skitty instead of Psyduck but Skitty doesn’t ignore weather and it’s Fighting weakness doesn’t get covered so.

I went Cubone and Psyduck. I went Psyduck for cloud nine. I went Cubone cause of lightning rod, which gives Psyduck only a grass weakness which isn’t common for legendaries. So I’m only weak against grass (x2), water, and ice. Bring companions to cover your weaknesses. In particular, magnemite (to cover ice and water) and any poison or bug type (avoid flying and fire cuz electric/ice/water are common boss coverage types)

Great video, although you overlooked the most important aspect of any Pokemon in PMD... Which ones can learn multihit moves and how early. It's one of the main reasons Skitty was the best in the original and still one of the bests (now tied with Cubone) in the remake. Not to mention that Fury Swipes is the main reason Meowth is actually salvageable as a starter in this game.
@markhunt9643
@markhunt9643 4 года назад
Depends on what we are talking about, if we are talking in terms of the overall game its hard to say as PMD has many types of pokemon within dungeons unless said dungeon has a specific theme. So you are bound to come across your type weakness at some point especially when monster houses are involved. If we are talking strictly boss encounters, I would have to go with Cubone given the fact most of the bosses especially early game are part flying. So Cubone learning Rock Moves via TMs really helps you out there, also with its Ground Typing the likes of Zapdos, Moltres etc aren't going to be to much of a problem, bosses further on you have the luxury of being higher level so you have more assets to give you a better advantage. So I would say if we are talking about bosses only Cubone is the way to go especially if it has lightning Rod, due to its Ground typing it has little weaknesses giving it a good type matchup against a lot of threats the game throws at you. For the partner I would probably choose a Grass Type, Treecko being my preferred choice. As it covers all of Cubones weaknesses including ice as Treecko knows a Steel type move Iron Tail by default in the remake, it also covers the weakness to water and its a neutral matchup to fellow Grass Types, by giving Treecko a flying Type move such as Aerial Ace which it can learn via TM.

I respect your opinion on grass starters. However, Chikorita’s access to screens made my personal playthrough so much easier than expected. I had played the original games growing up and knew how much of a challenge the grass type had considering the bosses. Admittedly ancientpower boosted Chikorita’s viability considerably. However, I never felt like she underwent any kind of trouble. That may be due to the innate defenses she carries, but she definitely had a supportive presence that should not be underestimated. Also (late game) light screen caused Kyogre’s water spout to cause a measly 1 HP on damage! That kind of protection shouldn’t go unnoticed just because the grass type face considerable opposition throughout the game. The other two grass options receive mega evolution but Chikorita’s offers impressive support and an eventual all opponents damage dealing move in Petal Blizzard (as does Bulbasaur). Those moves are incredible for clearing monster houses, especially when combined with the steamroller ability. :)

The thing left out on Bonemerang is that it pierces which means it hits more than just one pokemon in the line. So in monster houses, back up one step and throw repeatedly and watch everything fall over. It is utterly ridiculous and one of the few physical attacks that hits at range without blowing up your team (like Earthquake). Hydro pump pierces too which yeah, makes any water choice + Cubone, very strong. Care if you pick Mudkip though and want Hydro pump, Swampert does not learn Hydro pump but Mudkip does at 41. Muddy water hits everyone (allies and friends) sooo not ideal. Feraligatr gets pump very late too, Totodile at 50 for instance and Gatr doesn't get it until the 70s. Squirtle gets it at level 40. Meganium and Venusaur do both get Petal blizzard (Meganium via Gulpin and Venusaur at 50) though which is really strong (hits all enemies but not friends in the room) and with steamroll on something, the typing of things doesn't matter so post game, those two are quite solid picks if you have the patience for them. Choose Machop and Cubone just because I wanted to be 'no grass/water/fire starters'. Cus I'm a rebel. Or something?

An alternative for Monster Houses is to throw Room-hitting moves at it. It's why the Fire-Type Starters (sans Charmander, who already got the move) are much better in this game than the original: They can be tutored Heat Wave. Glaceon's also pretty great thanks to natural access to Blizzard.

I'd argue Glaceon does that better with access to STAB Blizzard. Room-hitting moves that DON'T hit your allies (like Heat Wave, Discharge and Blizzard) are always great. Combined with, say, Heat Wave from Charizard, it can make for a very nasty 1-2 room-hitting punch. Glaceon may be one of the worst Eeveelutions in the main series, but I'd argue its access to Blizzard makes it one of the best in the Mystery Dungeon series.

Machop is a lot better than you give it credit for imo. For one, there are a lot more "status ailments" that can trigger guts like being trapped in a binding move or having your speed lowered, and many of the boss fights have something that can trigger guts, like Fire Spin on Moltres, Icy Wind on Articuno, and Groudon's lava patches. Add Facade to the moveset and and I was able to do around 100 damage per Facade on the Moltres fight, which is an absurd number on a not super effective move on a boss at that point of the game. Lastly, if you switch up your tactics to prevent damage done to your partner, having earthquake as a way to combat monster houses before other means are available to you was very handy or is even better once you can start going on adventures by yourself.

Pikachu is definitely one of the best in my opinion. It was arguably the strongest starter in the originals but now that all of the starters start with egg moves its potency is played back a little bit. However I still do think it's one of the strongest starters for a couple of reasons. One its ability isn't dependent on your level of Health. In Mystery Dungeon the starter abilities are absolutely busted but that only activates when you're at very low health. In Super Mystery Dungeon they were nerfed a bit so that the stab attacks you're able to pull off don't scale a tie but they're still really good abilities. static can be used at any time and paralysis in Mystery Dungeon can really come in clutch Especially during boss fights. Paralysis was actually bumped in super it now prevents you from moving and drops your speed making it so you can only move half the time. Pikachu also gets access to stab from the beginning of the game but that's not really a benefit to it anymore seeing as how all the starters get egg moves now. Pikachu also learn some of the best spread moves and Status attacks black Thunderbolt discharge and Agility. With these three moves you could solo entire monster houses with just Pikachu. Pikachu also isn't limited to what sort of TMS can learn because of a starter typing. It's not as versatile as a normal type but it's still learns a ton of moves that otherwise couldn't if it was a fire grass or water type. Pikachu also only has one weakness

Quiz gave me a Machop, so I used what they gave me despite being able to choose, and I had never used Machop in these games before. I thought I would have a hard time against all the bosses, but thankfully that hasn't been the case because I hoard Revivers and early on got access to both Low Sweep and Rock Tomb. They're low accuracy, but I fixed that with lots of Accuracy Drinks, and every time they hit they lower the opponent's Movement Speed. If they happen to survive the attack, they usually go down in the very next turn before they can even hit you. I've also got Bulk Up + Cross Chop linked and a Scope Lens. Machamp is decent, sure there are better Fighting types like Breloom with Spore or Blaziken with Mirror Move and Heat Wave, or Heracross or Medicham, but for what I've been able to do with him so far, he's not that bad at all. But I imagine the average player would definitely have trouble using Machop.
