I have a rare 1967 Rogers Holiday 4 piece (including snare) with a Wild Wood laminate finish that was only made that year. Wood on wood.Oh the sound!

I love my Rogers drum set..I've had it since 79' and it's my first real professional set. It's a Fullerton era 9/72 series around 73' vintage. It's got the weird Spanish gold, very rare color. It's a 12" 13" and a 16" floor with a 22" bass. It has all the original hardware and stands and after all these years it still rocks on whatever I want to play, oldies, classic rock, gospel and country...and by the way, the 5 line Dynasonic snare. I was 17 when I got it, second owner, and now I'm 60! Rock on Rogers FOREVER! 😎

Man, in high school in the 80s I bought a 60s Holiday kit from my friend’s older brother and then sold it the next year to another friend, who then sold it to a long closed drum shop. None of us really knew what we had but I knew it was a great sounding kit. We all lament letting it go now.

Seriously every Rogers lot I've ever sat behind even in terrible condition sounded good. Lol. That and every old Ludwig especially the standards. Better then the super classics. And less $. Thanks for the info fellas

It must be the tinier lugs and hardware because the Standards are the very same 3ply with re-rings shells. I've often heard people swear on the Club-Dates, and possibly it is again the same case of same shells with less hardware attached.

You never see any quality issues (bearing edge issues) with Rogers.

I think the Rogers bearing edges were made on a 45° angle or cut. I believe I read that somewhere maybe in the Rogers book

Love Rogers drums..I have a mid-60's Covington manufactured kit..two 14 x 20" basses, two 8 x 12 and a 9 x 13" rack toms, and a 16 x 16" floor tom in steel grey ripple finish and a 5 x 14" COB Dynasonic snare (1970 script badge Fullerton manufacture). Manufacture quality on those Covington/Dayton era Rogers drums is first-rate.

I have a Cleveland Rogers Holiday kit in that same Red sparkle. They sound amazing! Recently I got modern mounts for the set that Rogers is making today! Way better than the original and uses the existing holes in the shell so no drilling.

When you guys do these reviews, you should really do close ups of the hardware. That's kind of what you're talking about so I for one would enjoy seeing what you're talking about. I bought a set of Rogers Holidays for $125 with cases and stands and 6 zildgian including an earth ride. They were blue sparkle. I did not like the original Rogers Tom mounts . I switched them out with Ludwig. My bad. At the time ( the 80s ) I wasn't concerned with the collectibility. I just wanted a kit that was easy to lock in place. Fast forward to the 2000s when it came time to sell them I was crucified for adding hardware and it suffered when it came to price. The best sounding drums I've ever owned. Better than my Slingerland, Tama ,do close ups eh! Ludwig

A lot of bands back in the day used Rogers and you can see it distinctly in the old footage. I think that’s both in jazz in the world of Main stream. I have no problem tuning my ‘73 Rogers kit drums and I use them in a jazz setting. I love them!

The “Consistency” and the Quality Control was the secondary problem .. Greedy management not paying to keep craftsmen and supporting them was problem 1…. But ..one guy ..one one day… would do a great job… but another guy’s work… Sucked … and without QC…. History shows the crap.

Had a Dave Clark Londoner (double mount toms) kit in '67, Champagne Pearl, Dyna Sonic snare, swiv-o-matic mounts. Good enough for my man, good enough for me. My friend had Ludwigs but I didn't think they had the punch my Rogers did. I was 15 so it's not like I really knew anything. I also still have my receipt, it's actually one of my prized possessions. Receipt is in my junk but I think the kit, throne, Zildjians (14hh, 16crash, 20medride) cost me around 650ish (6000 today according to inflation calculator).

Love the vintage 1960's Rogers drum. The only thing I hate about Rogers drums were the bread and butter lugs. Very poorly made. On a side note when Rogers closed down in Fullerton California I most of the new unfinished undrilled 5 ply with rings shells for Free a sh** load of sheets of wrap all colors for free got all this from the dumpsters they had out in front. Still have shells to make 5 and 6 sets with about 20 extra snare shells. Wrap to cover the drums too.

I have a Holliday Gold Sparkle kit from the 60's that my parents bought for me when I was a kid, if I was to guess I would say 1967. and I just set the kit up again. many years ago my brother supposedly lent out my floor tom to someone and I never got it back. so I got a used Ludwig white pearl floor tom to replace it, and then years later I walked into a used instrument store and I couldn't believe my eyes, I saw a Holliday gold sparkle floor tom sitting on a shelf. I thought that there was a possibility it could be the actual one that was stolen from me, and the shop owner was willing to trade it for my Ludwig floor tom. but inside my original kit the drums are coated with a speckled flat grey color. its grey with a lighter colored speckles in it. but the floor tom is just grey inside without the speckles. the kit and the floor tom both say Dayton Ohio in them, I was wondering if there was a year for the speckles and some years without. is my floor tom newer or older than the rest of my kit ? or did they just sometimes use different coatings. and since I am setting up the drum set again. I am wondering if anyone ever sets the set up with the toms coming out of the bass drum, but turning the bass drum around so the tom mount is on the foot peddle side ? I am also curious to how much a 60's Holliday 5 piece set would be worth in 2022. not that I would ever sell my kit. I also have the original Rogers hi hat and Rogers hi hat cymbals. thanks. Can you still buy a bass drum head that says Rogers on it.

A 3-piece, Dayton gold sparkle Holiday shell kit (12, 16, 20) is worth $1750. I have one that I just had appraised. The Dayton drums have the flat gray paint. Your original kit was likely made in Fullerton, where they used the speckled gray paint. The Dayton drums are more desirable to collectors, so your Fullerton set would be worth slightly less, were it not for the tags that say “Dayton.” Perhaps they used some of the Dayton tags right after they moved to Fullerton. I also have a 9x13 gold sparkle Fullerton tom I purchased new in 1969. It sounds the same to me. Same hardware and excellent shell quality.

Uhh, you have to carefully reinforce with epoxy with some filler like fine sawdust or silica powder. Make the mixture like peanut butter, so it doesn't,t run everywhere and reinforce the weak spots from the inside!! That's it.

Yes Henri Grossman Music he’s a jobber a wholesaler still in business in Cleveland CBS, bought Rogers while they were still based in Ohio in 1966! they didn’t move to Valencia Fullerton California until like 1969 1970. My first Roger set was a one of the first Fullerton sets and it sucked And I mean sucked big time. It sounded good when I had calf skin and HEADS on there but the second I switched the plastic flat as the board LES wanted to use my set on HARRY James gig and HARRY James didn’t like the sound of my set so he made LES get rid of it.

I.... learned to HATE ... my Rogers drums... every one of them.. early 1970s or late 1960s... but with the speckled grey interiors.... so they were (apparently) Fullertons with Holiday Dayton badges. Red Onyx... 12x8, 13x9, 16x16 and 20x14... plus a Black Onyx 22x14... I got them in 1973.. tuned high and tight with Pin Stripes they sounded OK playing Loud Rock... but in smaller settings with coated Ambassadors doing light Jazz or in recordings... no... they were embarrassing... I could NEVER get them to sound pretty... Tuned High Medium or Low... they sounded bad. The ONLY clue I had for years was that, as I tuned them up from completely loose... the head would start to "sound" in certain areas while other places around the rim would sound dead...lifeless... flabby... and I didnt know... Until only a few years ago doing the classic You Tube surfing. I found the "Bearing Edges Topics" . I learned the ways to test for flatness and I started really looking and the bearing ends . What I soon realized was that these drums had THE WORST... Criminal excuse for a Monday morning or Friday afternoon crap bearing edge job in the universe. Every drum... every edge. Was actually VISIBLY Scalloped.... once I knew what I was looking for and what was "NOT" acceptable... I recognized how BADLY these were done... I suspect that the High End Drum retail store, (Drums Unlimited in Bethesda Maryland) had been culling out the bad drums and that these drums became the "bastard set"... Then D.U. sold the set (Or gave them) to someone... who hated them and then they sold them to me. So I learned about flattening and cutting bearings... and as I was a piano tuner with lots of wood working tools... I decided to try it myself. I cut absolutely as little as I could and then a hair more and then a hair more... measuring and testing at each pass until the drum ends were flat and true. And NOW ... my drums sound very Pitch Centered / Focused like I never expected. So...NOW they are Keepers, Sadly though ..now... the drums dont have their original bearing edges... but the drums were useless before... and now I would take them anywhere. "Best Drums in the world"? hell no... My Fullertons were Horrible... But my Rogers/Fullerton/mods are ok

I too had one of the first Fullerton made Rogers drum kits. It was a white marine pearl buddy rich celebrity outfit in white marine pearl with the 24”x 14“ bass, drum, 9” x13”, small Tom, 16” x 16” floor tom, and chrome over brass, Dyna Sonic snare drum! I ordered the set with CALF SKIN HEADS on all the drums Tops and bottoms! and they sounded great as soon as I switched to plastic heads Remo black dot or C. S. heads they sounded like shit, but this wasn’t really Rogers anymore. This was CBS! And they fucked up everything they got their hands on see fender guitars, and Rhodes pianos for details! These Rogers drums sounded like crap with plastic heads of them! Very flat with no pitch whatsoever especially the bass drum However, I later bought two Grossman/pre- CBS/Ohio made Rogers kits and they are fucking incredible….INCREDIBLE! OK, are you ready?!The bearing edges were true Rogers, bearing edges. They are all….Toms, snare drums, bass drums, perfectly beveled to 45° precision cut bearing edges so don’t go by the California made Rogers, those are not Rogers! Those are fake. CBS made garbage!
