Just a little bit of research would have let you know that the Rockets didn't offer Sengun or Jalen Green a max contract because if HOU declines the FVV team option next offseason and they don’t extend Green/Sengun now… they can possibly have $30 million in 2025 cap space… and THEN extend Green/Sengun after.
This! It’s all in context that the rockets are trying to be smart with their money, we love Alpi and green in Houston but with the CBA rules, franchises have to be smart with their cap space or they could lose key pieces very easily.
@@octopussking Yeah, the new CBA is like playing a chess match. This is why the Nuggets had to let a couple of their key contributors go. Trying to build a super team is pretty much dead now with the new CBA because you won't be able to have any other bench players if you do go that route.
@@jabarwright4333 yep was thinking the same thing, sucks but they implemented the rules for the Warriors with KD and now it’s affecting teams like the Nuggets who did everything right when building a team from the ground up
Disrespect of nearly half of Houston fans and media is unbelievable.. Nearly all match beat the best of other teams.. Dominate the court.. Play against Double teamed defense.. Wasted asists , hundreds.. Take responsibility, in all offense last seconds and end of the game.. ( Not play for statistics) Defense the rim nearly lonely.. U r Stil 21 and.. 20+ points 10+ rebounds Reality 7+ asists +7 percentage three point, Free throw and Block make him the best of NBA.. How can u critisize him .. Last two years Sengun's salary % 20 of what he deserves.. Give him the max.. Remember Sengun do all against Managers, fans and media.. Give some respect to him..
Rockets had a top 5 defense in the league with him before he went off with injury. He is not a defensive liability, he is just not as flashy as he is on offense. He'll shut haters up AGAIN like he did since he got in the league.
His individual defense sucks, especially if Houston would ever get into a playoff series his defensive limitations would be even more exposed... Also the rockets were a top 5 defense primarily because with Sengun, they played at a below average pace, slowing down your offense in return will give your opponent less possessions. Secondly, if you look at opponents attempts at the rim against ALP, he has one of the lowest per out of all Centers who played more than 30 minutes, this is because of the rest of the team wasn't getting beat by their man. However, he had one of the highest opponent field goal percentage at the rim, this is because in the rare case when his teammates does get beat, Sengun is not long enough length wise to protect the paint, he has a small wingspan. Third, with Sengun playing the center spot, he has no versatileity in the way IME can run different schemes. With Sengun you can't switch, can't hedge, you only can play the drop and again he not long enough to protect the paint in a drop coverage, so now your defensive scheme becomes PREDICTABLE. Again a lot of these things are already on display but it's just the regular season, if the Rockets were to ever make a playoff, you will see it on full display
@djmill8000 if jokic can be a + defender sengun can become a good defender as well. The rockets are surrounding him with athletes so his honestly if he becomes just passable the team could contend legitimately
He's the truth. Made me fall in love with basketball again I've lived in houston all my life seen Hakeem win rings, Tmac and Yao in the mid 2000s Skip to my lou 😂 and even a bit of young harden. But this dude has revived my love for the game and I went to pretty much all but the last few rockets home games this year. And this man Alperen has been nothing short of amazing Hurt to see him get injured but if he can lock in this offseason upgrade his rim protection he'll for sure be a top 20 player in the league sooner or later
The only reason the rockets haven’t extended him yet is because they’re waiting until next year to do so. If they wait until next year it doesn’t matter how much they extend him for, they’ll have a cap hold that will allow them to sign a max FA. It’s what Philly did with Maxey that allowed them to sign PG
they're trading him,& a couple of first round picks to the spurs for charles bassey ..... that's the reason ..... & this might be a steal for houston ..... the rockets must be getting the next hakeem olajuwon ...... 😂🤣😂🤣-🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 ..... go spurs go !!!!!!!
I understand Hou offer a max contract to Sengun and Jalen when FVV goes off next year. On the other hand, imagine you are Alpi and you proved yourself with all-star performance. You even had an injury. What if you will have another injury again in this season? Maybe a big one? Hou would sign for a max contract with you? Hell no. Alpi will earn half the salary of Sheppard this season and Hou expects him to play again like an all-star. But its not about money its the value you have for Hou. They basically tell you, to take all the risks but we will not take any risk for you.
I like comment about Sengun.. If Houston not offer to Sengun anything this year, he must go to a good team.. i believe he can prove his worth in every team.. This is not about money, this is about worth and respect ..
If he's extended after the season it helps the Rockets cap situation so they can go big game hunting. Rockets love the player and want to put stars around him. It's that simple.
Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, Cam Whitemore, Amen Thompson, Reed Shepherd, along with the reliably productive vets in FVV and Dillon the Menace. Rockets need to worry about developing that ridiculous amount of young talent or package them in a trade for a star because real stars rarely ever hit free agency anymore anyway. They should do something like package Cam Whitemore and Thompson for Lauri Markennen. A frontcourt of Alpi, Jabari, and Lauri would be impossible to guard with a backcourt featuring FVV, Jalen Green, Reed Shepherd. Those Rockets would be bombing for real.
The positivity of your channel is SOOOOOO refreshing amongst so many other negative NBA spaces in the media (not just social media!). It's an easy watch and a big breath of fresh air every time I watch your videos. Honestly, coming across your videos late in 2023 were one of the biggest reasons I became such a huge fan of the NBA, your ability to hype up players and their positives are unmatched, on any platform. Seriously
This season with Reed, I think Rockets have a lot of potential. Rockets and Alpi need a reliable shooter and Reed is that person. I am really excited. Alpi probably will improve his defensive skills in the future and we will see an amazing Rockets with him, Amen, Cam and Reed.
Man.. everyone making videos on this situation while being totally oblivious that the Rockets financially benefit from offering him a max NEXT summer (aka getting another max slot)
Rockets have one of the best young cores in my opinion. Sengun, Green, Jabari, Amen, Whitmore, Tari Eason and now Reed Sheppard. I know somebody will be traded, because the Rockets can't pay all of them, and neither play all of them, but individually, I really enjoy watching each one of them.
Rockets shot awful from 3pts line. Alpi gave hundreds of open assists to 3pts shooters and they were mostly wasted. When they could made half of the wasted 3pts shots Rockets could made it to the playoffs. When Alpi was injured they played against weak teams and they made the 3pts shots.
This video didn’t really address why the Rockets didn’t give Al P the extension. Hint it has nothing to do with how they view him or his future with the club. It’s a salary cap thing coupled with his low cap hold due to his draft selection position. He is going to get his money, just 1 year later. Jalen Green is the one the front office isn’t sure about.
I’m a Mavs fan so you can guess my favorite player lol. But I always cheer for Texas teams. And ALL of 3 team’s futures look incredibly bright. Do you guys think Cleveland would trade Mobley for Sengun straight up? If that’s what they’re saying… he slows down the offense, not a good rim protector. Mobley would be a player that would fit that play style a bit more I guess. Cleveland would pull the trigger on that with no hesitation lol. First of all, he’s not a defensive liability. Second of all he’s athletic. He’s not the best rim protector, but he’s not bad, and that’s what Smith Jr. is supposed to be there for anyways. He doesn’t clog the paint either. He’s operating at the top of the key and the elbow all the time. Well if the Rockets won’t pay him max money… someone will lol. If Rockets fan want this to happen can you tell them to call Mark Cuban? Please 🙏🏼
The only reason rockets didnt give him a max is because of cap space for 2025 off season. According to cba if they gave him a max now they wouldnt be able to sign another star player in 2025. However if they wait, Just like the 76ers did with maxey, they will have an extra 30 million dollars to spend in the free agency. Just like the 76ers did in getting paul george, then extending maxey. They wouldn't be able to do it if they extended maxey beforehand.
the rockets are frightening... here's a potential lineup for them: pg: reed sheppard/ amen thompson sg:jalen green sf: cam whitmore pf: jabari smith jr c: sengun THIS ROSTER RIGHT HERE IS CRAZYYYYY
The Rockets are going to sign him. He is beloved. The Rockets are going to use this season to figure out what their final direction will be. Extending Sengun without extending Green would not be appropriate. I think they are waiting to see if Green can be consistent.
The reason alpi not getting the extension right now is team situational more than player because he's getting the max as a rocket just probably would happen this following season in regards to Jalen. If Jalen plays good next season they're can be better equipped to extend both with a max contract. If they extend just alpi now it'll hurt their chances to give Jalen a max the following season and extending both this season isn't possible right now. Their objective is to try their best to keep this core 7 of youth in tact from a team building perspective.
Bro is amazing I can’t say he’s nearly as good as Scottie right now but he’s younger and it’s hard for me to put him behind anyone else in the draft class.
The Rockets are 100% going to give Sengun the max and he'll 100% be playing for the Rockets for years to come... Houston's front office is smart enough to realize there's no advantage in giving him the max a year early. Also, anyone who believes the Rockets were better without Sengun last year, did not watch the Rockets regularly. Jalen, Amen, and Jock all improved immensely right when Alperen got injured... just a lazy take
people tend to not think about psychological effects. sengun will earn half the salary of sheppard this year. and he put an all-star level play this season. motivating himself out of that must be not easy. rewards and insurance motivate most people. I wouldn't risk that with my best prospect tbh.
Personally I’d love to see sengun with all these weapons this season I think they can be a high 40s win team depending on Jalen greens efficiency they could win 50
OKC Thunder GM Sam Presti drafted Sengun and traded him away to get Cason Wallace who is a nice player but not on the same planet in terms of value as what Sengun is. You put Sengun on OKC last year they win it all. There is no way in hell anybody beats that team with him playing. I have no idea exactly what Presti was thinking there but this clearly was a colossal mistake and for some reason nobody seems to ever want to criticize Presti who is an excellent GM but has his fair share of blunders like this one and Harden.
Because OKC is young asf as an organization remained a playoff team and rebuilt to be a top gunner for the next 5 years or more after drifting in and out the playoffs the last 7 years. Presti is allowed that
There is also a fact that Hakeem trained and helped him get used to NBA basketball. His play style might not improve like today if there was no Hakeem personal training. I mean one of the facts.
People dont seem to realize that what makea Joker so special isnt just his passing and shooting ability. It is his size in combination with his reading of the game. If you want to be an elite offensive engine you have to make the right decision with the ball 9 times out of 10. Guys like Sabonis and Sengun are similar in theory but in practice they are not even close.
I think Sengun has more skill than Sabonis tbh, Sabonis is a skilful bruiser. Sengun is closer to Jokic than sabonis but I agree it's like comparing a point guard to Steph. Those guys are all time greats for a reason. There will never be another Jokic but I dont know if that means Sengun can't still be a really great player using a similar blueprint.
honestly ALP is closer to being joker than Sabonis his shot has potential he shown he can make up in threes he’s shown he doesn’t need to just post up every play and he’s been getting stronger every year
@@6manYT what I am trying to say is that to succeed when the whole offense revolves around you, you literaly have to be a Jokic, Luka, Steph (different playstyles but still whole offense is predicated on them doing the heavy lifting in different ways) as soon as you are one step below that a team just wont succeed if you are an "offensive hub" with defensive shortcomings. That is why, while for example Sabonis might be a superior floor raiser, in a contending team I would want a Adebayo every day of the week. And that is why I would never want to build my tram around guys like this, they hard cap the roster.
I think the rockets have drafted for senguns deficiencies so I feel like they will extend him. I havent read the cba terms and all the cap rules but I think them not extending him and green yet is because they will have to extend jabari, eason, whitmore, thompson, and others in the near future so they want to have the most cap flexibility
the disrespect was real towards the end of the last season, we saw rockets win a few games in a row and media started to blame sengun and his pace on the court, little did they know, sengun was basically the last thread between rockets and losing
They havent paid Alpy and Jalen yet waiting to see how the roster shapes up for the upcoming season and the new rules of signing max contract players. Houston is taking it easy w him. I will get paid at some point. We have always been a franchise who goes after superstars and i have a feeling theyre going to use him or Jalen as a piece to get one this year... and im not happy about it. Tillman just cant stand not being relevant.
Back to the tmac yao ming days for the rockets good core+ reed and sengun..and like back then the Texas rivalry should tip in favor of Houston and not Dallas hopefully
Fair points but the Rockets love Alpi & view him as a cornerstone but because of the salary cap it doesn’t make sense to pay him this offseason. Let him hit restricted with a low cap hold and then you can add other pieces around him and let the market set his price. With how restrictive the new CBA is you have to be smart with all your contracts, much like NY Knicks are doing with their free agents. Take less but keep the core together. Maxing out Franz Wagner is bad business, he is not an all star or all nba player.
We have decided that the only actions NBA teams should ever run are the variations of 5-out high pick & roll. Soon, Embiid will be added to the list of unplayable ball-stopping bigs.
Those other guys got max extensions because their teams are trash (other than orl). Sengun will be re-signed next year. Rockets are just trying to keep the ability to sign a big player before Sengun and Green extensions.
Give him his Max Sengun is a star caliber player and fits very well in Houston culture Very promising team Great coach in Udoka Sengun does it all He is a Sleeping dynamite 🧨 just like Jokic or Doncic some sloppy plays but deadly tho He slightly better than Isiah Harkenstein knowing that man also played a solid star caliber season with the Knicks Sign Sengun back pair him with Green
I don’t think sengun is the problem same as I don’t think green is the problem I do think synergy between and the struggle to find who “ the guy “ is on their team gotta remember green is a number 2 pick with lots of hype
EMBIID and GIANNIS didnt average 5 assists...their assists were rigged...they had games with 2 assists and NBA was counting 6 and 7..most of GIANNIS and EMBIID assists are to passes at half court to PG who run to the rim or that shoot from far...those arent assists
If he's name was Alpi'Quanious Shenanigans NBA media would glaze him from the start. NBA media is clueless about basketball and racist asf that's all. Alperen should change his written born place from Turkey to any state from US and he'll get a max contract
Sengun reminds me of Zion in a way. Zion is this insanely talented player, but he is a 6’6 power forward that doesn’t shoot 3s or defensd that well. Sengun is an insanely talented player, but he is a 6’10(with a7’0 wingspan) center that doesn’t shoot 3s or play defense that well. Both these guys are talented but they are a bit undersized, don’t shoot well, or defend well and they don’t fit the typical archetypes of the nba championship role player either. So it’s hard to think of a role for them. And it would be an uphill battle for them to be an mvp level player
Your info is bogus. Your saying hes not a goid player bc Rockets haven't given him an extension. They are not doing this until next season to have extra cap.
You hit it again on this one. Sengun is a small Center who is a major liability on defense. Like Trae Young and Gary Trent Jr., he is one of those players that doesn't have a market for winning teams. Love him in fantasy, but teams are now stacking up on switchable 2 way players.
rockets have 10 games without alpi and 10of those games are some of the worst teams on nba regardles of the team qualitiy jalen did a great job but does he can do that types of things agains elite defenders i realy dont think so alpi has vission on the court his sharring the ball give opportunity to do pick and roll. but if we look at to the jalen his just a one on one player who doesnt like to share the ball and dont countrubute to the team play this is not a 2008 nba play this is a new erea
Rockets gotta pay Fred Van Vleet, Steven Adams, Dillon Brooks and of course Jalen Green. You intelligently say Sengun is wayyy better than Adams, but Adams is a vet, and there's a min. you have to pay vets. So it's like Rocket owners' hands are tied. Arguably, Sengun is the second most valuable on the team, to Green. But
that made 0 sense, udonis haslem was a vet who sat on the bench without getting in basically for half a decade, you pay your best player first and every else falls in line that is common sense, never do i pay any of those guys before him , you will find another guard, gonna be real hard to find another big man with those skills
Green is not that guy bro, he has been given the keys for 3 years and has shown that he's not a no. 1 guy, maybe a no. 3. Sengun is taking over the team.
