To be fair, with a ship, you need to know exactly how much fuel (in this case sparklium) you need to get to your destination, and how much your ship can hold. It's quite literally rocket science.
"What's your new excuse, Lazy Lucy? What's the little scheme you're dreaming, up today? Tell me what's the use, Lazy Lucy? Working very hard to find an, easy way?"
I feel like by saying "Who would want to enter Lastfrost Cavern 1137.27 times? Definitely not me." you might accidentally have summoned the patience elemental known as Lemon from the depths of the Backlogs.
It's honestly just a waiting game, not nearly as challenging as some of his normal runs, but also exceedingly flavorless. Avoiding getting board is the real challenge, rather then getting past a frustrating obstacle.
Not only do the Rescue Corps match their outfits and ship to match the color you choose, but if you change it later, they all change as well. I enjoy treating this as you forcing them to repaint the ship simply because you're bored.
I really love that you put built in subtitles in the video, but I'd like to request them to be smaller in the future, so you can actually read it via phone and it doesn't update every second rsrs. Regardless, the effort is highly appreciated uwu
Yeah, the Pikipedia is much better at showing accurate information. As a general rule of thumb, if an independent wiki on a subject exists, then avoid the Fandom equivalent like the plague.
Can I just say that I was kind of annoyed at how they structured the series? Like if the whole point of completing a series is it gives you extra sparklium why did they leave so many of them to the last area when you don't need it??? They could have made it more rewarding by letting series be completed throughout the game in roughly equal measure... Makes me anggy.
Funny thing about the safe combo: You only need to see two of the cards, and you can just chuck pikmin at the third dial repeatedly. Which is good because one card is kinda out of the way.
Actually, you only need one, that's what the speedrun does. You probably don't need any, but it goes from guessing from 8 with 2 cards, to 72 with 1 card, to 720 with no cards.
Fun fact, the first time I played Pikmin 4, I was fascinated by the safe mechanic. And thought you had to guess it. So I guessed it. It was 614. I do not know what Dandori entity possessed me to grant me such knowledge, but it has not returned since
@@weckar With "Skill" you need no cards, why 2? Seriously its just luck with 0, 1 or 2 cards, technically. 2 is just where the luck is much more bearable.
I'm sorry to be so negative, but I'm not a huge fan of this new editing style :( The video was a bit too zoomed in, and the subtitles were too large. This meant a lot of screen space was cut off or filled in. As someone who's played a lot of this game, it was a little disorienting for me. And the subtitles could have used another once-over. Breaking single numbers into multiple lines is jarring, and there were certain instances of misplaced capital letters. That said, I do like that you're experimenting with your style. You're one of the better challenge runners - especially with Pikmin. I just think this experimentation warrants further iteration before it's _just_ right.
Technically, you also need to collect the Gift of Friendship, though it is not collected manually. Even though it is never carried by Pikmin under your command, you are forced to collect it. But that would increase your total by 1 extra treasure, since you literally have to collect it to finish the game.
If u run a 5treasure% speedrun, you can still get sparklium from enemies in other caves once and pick up some castaways on the way to buy the dog a speed boost. Idk the math on how much sparklium u would save from collecting all the enemies from the other caves, but I bet that would shave some hours off. Oh and u can probably get white pikmin from caves, hopefully enough to quickly carry all the enemies in the 2 treasure cave.
I was actually curious on the Last-Frost Cavern revisit count and how much you could take it down by clearing out all of the enemies from every other cave as well. If I tallied everything up correctly, you ended up getting 1,256 Sparklium from all of the other caves combined, so you'd only need 11,254 Sparklium from Last-Frost Cavern instead of the full 12,510. Excluding the first visit to get the treasures, you'd need to re-enter only 1,023 more times, which still sounds pretty exhausting, but nice that you can save yourself 114 dives and be able to take a few breaks to explore more interesting caves along the way. Cool video, always interesting to see breakdowns like this for challenges and such.
Technically, you would need 67 (or 6 if you're a masochist) treasures to beat Pikmin 4, because in the last cave, after you defeat the final boss, the dog color is collected automatically and appears in the treasure log.
Technically speaking, if you REALLY wanted to (I don’t know why you would but here goes) you could beat the game with only 3 treasures; the three you have to get. You can redo caves and enemies will respawn, unlike the surface. So you can do *A LOT* of grinding to get all the sparkling without getting a single treasure. And no I do not count dandori treasures, they do not count towards the sparklium counter on the ship, it’s their own thing.
So you wouldn't necessarily need to enter the Last Frost Cavern the full 1,138 (rounded up) times, because you would still have access to the other caves! While you wouldn't collect any of the treasure in any of the other caves, they do have corpses that you could collect at least once! I don't know what the total extra sparklium would be, or how many trips into the cave it would save, but it's a possibility to ease up on the slog that it would be!
Always amused by how much strategy and planning goes into these "minimal effort" challenges. I'm fascinated by your pathing and thought process! Thank you for another great video.
Is there an official Low% category yet? If not, this could be it. Heck, splice it with Minimum Pikmin (7) for an Ultra Low% - hours of pain, but plenty of Low% or Max% runs are just as long.
Technically you would have to go to lastfrost cavern a bit less cus you could get the enemy corpses from the other caves still, but you know, not by much
i wonder how they got the numbers of sparklium wrong when the game itself literally has the number inside of it... like it literally flashes it before then showing the name of the stage!
you can't forget there are people who crazy tedious challenges i know that there has been people who did max level starting zone challenges like kh destiny islands max level, persona 5 fist dungeon max level,. kh2 twilight max level and those are just the ones i know. so i can totally see someone doing the 5 treasure challenge at some point
Fair point. It was my first time doing subtitles and I wasn’t sure if they could even be changed since it’s connected to the audio. But definitely something to improve on for the next one
I wonder if you also took all the enemy corpses from the other caves as you went, without collecting treasures, (like doing all the sun speckled terrace caves taking corpses, then go back to repeat last frost cavern to get the extra to unlock blossoming arcadia, do those caves taking corpses and no treasures, then go back to repeat last frost cavern until you have enough to go serene shores, and keep doing that onwards) would it significantly decrease the amount of times you need to go through Last frost cavern?... actually let me do the maths. Doing last frost cavern once, + the treasures from it and base camp total a remaining sparklium needed of 12,499 to unlock the primordian Thicket Hectic Hollows: 29, Crackling Cauldron: 29 You'd then need to re-do the Last Frost Cavern enough to get an extra 941 Sparklium to unlock Blossoming Arcadia. Meaning you'd need to do it 86 times, getting 946 Sparlium. Then go to Blossoming Arcadia, having earned a total of 1505 Sparklium, needing 2,495 to unlock serene shores. Going through the saves taking corpses and not treasures results in an extra (34+34+49+154) 271 sparklium. Leaving 2,224 Sparklium needed. Return to Last Frost Cavern to do it another 203 times, earning 2,233 Sparklium, heading to Serene Shores with a total of 4,009 Sparklium, requiring 2,991 Sparklium to Unlock the next area. You know the drill, Serene Shores caves taking only corpses, thats (56+60+82+116) 314 extra Sparklium, Returning to Last Frost Cavern to earn 2677 Sparklium, completing it another 244 times to earn 2684 Sparklium. Flying to Hero's Hideaway with 7007 Sparklium, needing 3,993 Sparklium to get to the 11,000 Needed to go to Giants Hearth. As usual do Hero's Hideaways Cave Corpses, getting (79+96+176) 351 Extra Sparklium, Back to Last frost cavern for the remaining 3642 Sparklium, Doing the cave an extra 332 times to get 3652 Sparklium. Taking us to 11,010 Total. We only need 1,990 to unlock Primordial Thicket, Getting an extra 262 sparklium from the Giant's Hearth Cave Enemies, leaving 1728 more for Last Frost cavern. On the 158th run through of this chunk of Last Frost cavern runs, we'll reach the 13K needed, ending with a total of 13,010 Sparklium. This method still requires a stupid amount of runs of Last Frost Cavern, but would be alot less repetitive and boring, as you'd still get to experience the other areas and caves, and need to do alot less run throughts of Last Frost Cavern. Instead of 1,137 + a bit runs, you'd 'only' need to do 1,024 + a bit. I honestly thought it would cut it down a bit more, but you do end up having to do it 113 less times.
i want to see something for this by doing the least of everything. (finding creatures, collecting treasures and and castaways, and geting least amount of gear)
I'm sure somebody will do the enemy grind challenge once it's been 5+ years since the last game. You scrape the bottom of the barrel at some point. And some people enjoy things like that.
I thought your restriction would be just no enemy corpses, to avoid the respawning problem. How much was collected from just corpses? Maybe would have added 2-3 more treasures to your count?
why did you feel the need to add giant captions on the bottom the whole video, if i wanted captions i'd use the captions feature i can hear you just fine
you definately should have pointed that restriction at the beginning of the video. Everyone that knows how this game works would be quick to point out and question why you aren't doing it without explicitly stating the rules.
Could you collect all the treasures in a cave at the start of the game and just grind enemys? It would be the most boring grind but wouldnt it be possible?
Why did you crop the video? Like you showed collecting everything you said so why crop? ... Did you use footage of a normal run and just said the strategies to do low%
You could reduce that 1137.27 times significantly by getting the monster corpses once from the other caves. You collect 1256 sparklium from all of the other caves, which is 114.18 when divided by 11. So you would "only" have to do the first cave 1023 times if you went and got the remaining sparklium from the other monsters.
I was trying something new but didn’t realize how obnoxious they were until after the video was posted. Rest assured they won’t be included in future videos

I don't know if this is doable, but you could only collect the first 3 treasures and then farm the rest of sparklium out of every soulless corpse of enemy until you reach 13,000 sparklium. Which is a very tedious and long way to do it but hypothetically that would be least amount. P.D. I've only watched only the first 5 minutes. Maybe you addressed this situation further in the video, if it so, sorry 😅
By and large a good video, but the giant text flashing across the bottom of the screen throughout the whole thing is very distracting. The constant movement keeps drawing my eye away from the video.
You could have just easily beat the game with only 5 treasures if you repeated last frost cavern 1,137.27 times and looted the sparklium from the enemy corpses
Auto generated text at the bottom that you didn't bother to check isn't a good look. It's too reminiscent of those lazy ai-generated videos that have been popping up all over the site.
Technically 1137 is closer! Also it would be possible to beat the game while entering last-frost cavern fewer times. By going through the other caves and collecting all the enemy corpses there once, you can gain more sparklium and reduce how much needs to come from the cavern. Specifically, in the main video, 1,267 sparklium is collected from enemies in caves. (This does count the 11 from last-frost cavern once.) Combined with the 490 sparklium from the 5 collected treasures, this is 1,757 sparklium, bringing the total we need to collect by repeating last-frost cavern down from 12,510 all the way down to 11,243. This means that instead of needing to repeat last-frost cavern 1137 times, we only need to repeat it 1023 times! (Annoyingly 11,243 is one more than a round multiple of 11, so if there's a single sheargrub anywhere that was missed in the original video, we could bring that down to 1022 repeats exactly, or 1023 total times entering last-frost cavern.) This saves 115 trips through last-frost cavern!
I did a crude test to estimate how long this would take. I hopped into my complete save file and did 10 runs of last-frost cavern. It took me just under 2 real-life minutes per run (19 minutes total - though most of that was the loading, lol) and the main level timer was almost at the first dot. This means you could likely do around 60 runs per in-game day, taking just under 2 hours. This means it would take just over 17 in-game days or 34 real-life hours just running last-frost cavern to gather enough sparklium. If you decided to do this run as a full-time job, for 8 hours a day, it would be 4.25 full days of just last-frost cavern grinding. (I haven't accounted for the amount of time saved by having Oatchi fully upgraded, but I think it only makes a difference to how much damage rushing the blowhog does, so once you have enough pikmin it should be about the same. Plus considering where the timer was, I think another 2 runs would be possible before hitting the first dot on the main area timer, which would mean 72 runs would be possible per in-game day, making the grind around 14.5 in-game days; though this might be cut short at the end of the day by the 10-second countdown.)
@@mariatomlinson2663 1137 being closer doesn't technically matter. because you can't ~really~ do .27 of a run, you'd have to do it 1138 times. I'd be willing to wager entering any other levels outside of the first would also be a waste of time, as you'd have to do those runs and then end a day. Though I guess the challenge is about minimal treasure, not minimal days so it shouldn't matter. It'd come down to how many in game minutes are required to unlock each cave, versus how many times you could run Lastfrost Cavern in the same time... I imagine its still probably quicker to run the caves in a day than it is to spam Last Frost Cavern, but couldn't say for sure.
Before watching this, this seems like it is going to be an incredibly obnoxious run given that you will need to farm a ton of corpses. Since enemies respawn in caves once the cave reaches 100%, this run could devolve into bug farming. I don’t envy you at all. Edit Post-Watch: glad your sanity remains in tact. Thanks for at least mentioning the respawning corpses though. Also, found this interesting in the video: Press-A: And who would want to do that?!?! Definitely not me! CC: Probably not me. Oh no. . . Good bye future sanity!
Okay, I'm not against subtitles, but I think the way you present the subtitles here is a little much? Like, give me a sentence at a time, not a few words. That's fine for shorter videos, but a longer one like this having the subs like that gets outright distracting.
