Those maj9 no5 chords are so gorgeous. The first time I played one by accident I turned it into a cute little chord progression/song almost immediately.
Steve what I liked about this video in particular was that it felt more chill and less scripted and more from the heart. You seemed be really enjoying yourself playing through those tunes, more so than usual. Great vid!
@@lol-od4ip Yes, desperately. Superior Drummer 2's legs are beginning to wobble, and with me driving... I shouldn't really even say how bad it is, and how much time and effort I put into all the square pushing.
the Emaj9 with the open E and the m7#5 chords are two of my favorites. The latter definitely lends itself more to proggy stuff, I think. Almost a suspended sound
2:26 Don't Hate Me was my first taste of emo, and just hearing those opening chords makes me feel something really special, every single time. 3:03 Your song is also so good, I love how you can use all these same chords and still change it up, every single time.
Great Video as usual Steve! First off I gotta mention how much I love the Tricot 3 poster in the background early in the vid. As for my fav chord in the video... EMaj7 has to be my personal favourite chord here. Just such a perfect sound on every note.
Thanks for those chords, always a great help for creating new cool stuff. This videos from you and trevor wong really saved me from boredom during this lockdown. From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
started guitar a week ago, love watching your videos! It is really motivating to learn when you show us such nice cords and with such enthusiasms! Thanks!
Joe chord 1 is a chord I stumbled upon a while back when I first started messing around with possible chord shape. I have never seen it actually contextualized. It's probably one of my favorite chords. I'm irrationally excited about finally seeing it be talked about haha
It’s a Dmaj7sus2 DAEAC#E tuning is basically this chord as your open chord lol. If you want open strings with it, you can play it in the key of G instead of A which would be x3000x (Cmaj7sus2 obviously). Sounds great clean, and with distortion you can get a really nice wall of just “noise” going
Hey Steve, I know this isn't pertaining to the video but i want to thank you so so much. I started watching you back in 2019 after getting into math rock and slowly regaining my passion for guitar. You have taught me so much and i love playing nowadays and can still think of how i was struggling to get back into guitar and how your videos helped me. I even remember your video on beginner math rock riffs teaching me to use my pinky more (specifically the fcpremix part) Sorry if this is sappy but you are litearlly my guitar idol at this point. Thanks for so much and I wish all the best for your youtube and musical career
Very cool video. I recently fell in love with this genre, and even more recently I've begun attempting to play in this style. While my fingers can't quite make a lot of those pretzel twists yet, this was still a very helpful video. It's always fun to broaden my chord library :D
Honestly I find that a lot of the drone-y open string chords give you that midwest emo sound really well. A really happy sounding major 7 chord happening at the same time as, depending on the chord, pretty dissonant open string notes that don't fit the chord but somehow work, suits the genre super well.
incidentally the "perfect" chord that rob is talking about is the opening chord to Lefty by Title Fight (and also is the chord the song is sorta built around), which just so happens to be one of the best songs ever made
As a drummer simply trying to have a grasp on the guitar for music's sake, I dont know if I am yet qualified to pick from among these chords. But I sure love trying them out. I cant quite write much without it being straight up plagiarism of your riffs so far. I'll get there tho. P.s. thanks for returning my socks. Now have you seen my aqua guitar strap? I cant seem to find it anywhere. Lol
Just want to watch RU-vid before go to bed and see your new video professor). Again wonder that you can play on guitar.(something unusual, you know) See you on Tuesday. Good night )
I learned about that the sound I've loved so was called math rock from podcast trash taste because he mentioned that he loved the intro of Tokyo ghoul season 2 more than season 1 and I absolutely agree and he mentioned math rock so now I've just been learning about it a lot now
is midwest emo easier to play in different tunings than the standard which i think is supposed to be eadgbe ? i've seen so much about the other two you mentioned but am wondering what would be good to start learning with once i get a guitar
Hello. Thanks for the question. I recommend trying stuff out in standard tuning first, then move to FACGCE because it's not too different from standard tuning. I recommend learning a few riffs in that tuning to get you started: Never Meant (American Football), Parachute (Covet), Crocodile (TTNG), Goodbye (toe). Hope that helps, and good luck! Happy to have you onboard.
Тот самый момент, когда давно играл эти аккорды и находил их звучание необычным. Может хватит называть семерочки и девяточки тру мидвест эмо аккордами?
