Lethal Company was imo the extraction genres best attempt to take off. It sold stupidly well, could be played very seriously or be hella chill. But most importantly, it was (and still can be) a wonderfully hilarious time with friends. Granted LC did spawn some spin offs like Content Warning etc.. but those spin offs have not seen success of their own like Fortnite did when it spun off PUBG. I bet if LC launched on consoles day 1 it would've had greater lasting cultural effect. Who knows, maybe it still can if it does come to other platforms and markets itself well. But I do feel it's time in the mainstream spotlight as a game has passed. Great video! Subbed.

i was a pretty big tower defense and fps player long ago. so extraction games are pretty much perfect for me. helldivers 2 has been long awaited for many like me. also, when you jump as monkey hold right click in the air and snipe the hero you are pouncing. melee as you are landing on them and then begin autoaim

I think a core difference between extraction shooters and all the other game genres you were talking about (hero shooters, tac fps, RTS, battle royale, big sports games, MOBAs etc.) is that extraction shooters are PvE, while the rest are PvP. By default, people tend to get invested in PvP games more than single player or PvE because there is no skill cap, you can never “master” those games despite thousands of hours because there is always someone better. It’s fairly rare for someone to sink multiple years and thousands of hours into the same PvE/single player game because it gets stale once you reach the skill level to master the game. Games that people invest more time and money into are going to be prioritized for big budget development and have more continued support for than games that get stale after a few hundred hours. For example I have absolutely enjoyed the fuck out of Helldivers 2 the past few months but at only 160 hours, most of my play time has been at max difficulty and it is pretty rare to lose a mission. After 300/315 successful max difficulty extractions, the gameplay is getting a bit stale and stakes don’t feel very high. For context I’m far from the greatest FPS gamer (plat in Apex and gold in Valorant), and maybe this is partly because HD2 is an easier extraction shooter (not sure because I haven’t played many others), but I can’t see myself sinking hundreds of hours into it like I have with Apex or Valorant because there’s not much more for me to improve on. Edit: I guess some extraction shooters (like tarkov) have PvP while others don’t (like Helldivers and Deep Rock Galactic), which kind of makes my point moot. But I think it will hold true that PvP extraction shooters will have more staying power than purely PvE ones.

I think we're pushing towards movement shooters. It seems like every shooter is doing sliding, movement ablities, or some form of an enhancement movement.

Hero Shooter -> Battle Royale -> Gacha. It’s already exist.

im heavily biased but I have a feeling Souls-likes are going to be the next trend within the 2020's. Much of it is inspired by the knock-out success of Elden Ring and the continued support going into the release of the DLC. Pair that with releases like Lies of P and Another Crab's Treasure reaching critical acclaim for uniquely handling the genre with elegance, Entoria on the horizon, and the constant push for metroidvanias that have that souls-like quality and you have a big trend that while is not as replayable as modern gaming would want for their money, is still worth the time spent purely for the love and honor that goes into each production.

WHAT IF?? a Medieval Battle Royale where we vote who's the King & the rest is his pawns & we fight other multiple players, taking over their Lands, Castles, those victors will be compensated can have golds or lands, just a live server open 24/7 which can be attacked anytime, thats why every castle needs watch mens, you can choose whoever you want, be a King/soldier/adventurer/merchant/farmer/smithy or a fuckin bandit who loots traveling people. Just imagine the amount of possibility, enjoyment a person can have in a world (game) like that
