What temperature do you like your pool to be?

My guests all seem to prefer the pool temp between 85 and 87. I prefer it to be 87. We use a solar cover and a solar heater that runs through the pool pump.

I’m a Brit and live in the north of Portugal. I have back and joint problems. I can’t get into get water below 30°C/86°F for exactly the reasons you said! I’m also 66. 😂 I have pool cover that keeps up to 5°C from dissipating overnight..which saves on the heating. I have an air heat source pump water and it’s brilliant. Only comes on if the water is below 30°C... and often with the cover saving the heat, and if we’ve left it on in the morning it actually heats the water too , we find the heater doesn’t come on often if at all! Especially in high summer! Thank you for all your help. Now..if only you had a way of getting out the water and not freezing even in hot air! 😂 I know, I need to put a roof and walls on it! Nope can’t do that! ;)

Here in southeast Texas, there's no way on earth you're going to keep any pool less than 85 degrees from June through September. Just keep the chlorine cranked to keep the nasties down.

Negative to the ice... And I think your book "The Art of Pool Care" even said that it'll take way too much ice to drop the temp. I live in Houston, no solar cover, no heater and it was 90 degrees in the beginning of May. I run the waterfall at night and have cantilever umbrellas providing shade. I think next year I'm installing a heater/cooler because by August it's about 98

Matthew D, I own my own pool cleaning business in Vero Beach Florida. I wanted to let you know that here in Florida you can install a system that both heats and cools your pool. I am sure that if it is available here in Florida, it should also be available in your area of the country. Look at Aqua-Cal pool heat pumps.

You must be somewhere in the north US. I'm on the Gulf Coast. It's like having a pool on the surface of the sun. Cooling is a much bigger deal than heating. Summer water can rise to mid and upper 90's, simply by the sun and ambient temperature.

IF U DONT ADD CHLORINE STABILIZER TO YOUR POOL WATER YOUR CHLORINE WILL NEVER STAY LONGER THAN A DAY OR TWO EVEN LESS WHEN ALGAE HAS STARTED. CHLORINE STABILIZER OR CYANURIC ACID NOT MURIATIC ACID BUT CHLORINE CONDITIONER PROTECTS AND BINDS TO THE CHLORINE MOLECULES KEEPING. CHLORINE AT A SANITIZING LEVEL FOR LONGER AND PROTECTING YOUR CHLORINE FROM SUNLIGHT DEGRADATION AND ANOTHER TIP FOR EXTRA WARM POOL WATER PRONE TO ALGAE BLOOMS AND BACTERIA IS TO ADD A FEW PELLETS OR TABLETS OF CHLORINE TO YOUR FLOATER OR A SKIMMER THIS ENSURES YOU HAVE A CONSTANT SANITIZATION AGAINST BACTERIA AND ALGAES ALSO BRUSH AND VACUUM YOUR POOL SIDES STEPS WALLS AND BOTTOM CLEAN DEBRIS FROM SKIMMER BASKETS AND OUT OF POOL ALSO CLEAN YOUR FILTERS AND BACKWASH TO WASTE YOUR POOL PUMP AND FILTERS MUST BE CLEANED OUT THEN RUNNING POOL PUMP AT LEAST 7 HOURS A DAY IF NOT ALL DAY AND SHOCKING YOUR POOL ONCE A WEEK REMEMBER TEST YOUR POOL WATER CHECK pH add acid if pH is above 7.6 and lower it to 7.2. Keep chlorine stabilizer and run pump then add chlorine clean and backwash your filter and pump and remove leaves daily and pool toys when not using and vacuum and brush pool Shock once a week or more if heavy use and ask guests not to eat in pool and pull long hair into a braid or ponytail also rinsing off tanning oils and any debris from body or feet before entering pool. All these things oh and ask guests to use a designated poolside access to restroom to urinate kids tend to be culprits as well as intoxicated adults . If your pool smells strong of Chlorine guess what...it's the Chloramines responding to uric acid in human urine. No one wants to swim in a giant toilet. That usually gets a few volunteers to hop out of the pool to go potty. I generally make all kids go potty before entering and to shower outside messy birthday cake or hot dog ketchup before entering my pool. Also tablet floaters are great for when pool is not in use .

One or both of your thermometers are either not accurate or haven’t been calibrated. To get an accurate reading, you need a very good quality (not cheap) thermometer.
@drdrew3
@drdrew3 2 года назад
Temperature vary bya few degrees at different locations (and depths) within a pool due to incomplete mixing of the water and shade. Five degrees is an unusually big difference. If the two thermometers give different readings AT THE SAME LOCATION then one of them is clearly defective

But wasn't there an issue with the effectiveness of chlorine - if the water is too hot.. Could you make a video explaining the perfect parameters for the best effectiveness of organic and unorganic chlorine - with temperature, cyaurinic acid levels and alkalinity.. And then maybe a second one on brome.. would be great!
@drdrew3
@drdrew3 2 года назад
Within the temperature range for swimming the effect on chlorine, bromine and CYA is negligible. Chlorine is not actually less potent at higher temperature but greatly effected by UV light exposure. The higher chlorine levels needed in summer are needed because algae growth in stimulated. Chlorine is a halogen chemical which is not organic. The active form is hydrochlorous acid regardless of the source
