Touring and even some naked bikes also sit you upright, probably even in more comfort than some cruisers which due to the forward bar and pegs actually make you slouch and your lower back hurt after a while.
@florme6494
@florme6494 4 года назад
Sérgio Alves well said, I have a few bikes and I find a very slight lean forward and pegs directly under you to be the most comfortable. Upright hurts your butt and back after a while. Slightly forward puts you in to the wind but holds you up at highway speeds. Pegs underneath gives you better control. What I dislike the most about my cruiser (m109r) is constantly hitting the pegs at even low speeds around corners... compared to my other bikes anyway. To me, the most comfortable position is adventure bikes. They can go around corners with easy. Plenty of power. All day comfort with the right seat and a small lean forward with the handlebars. I have a Vstrom 1000. I also find my gsxs1000f to be super comfortable. Naked bikes definitely look better than Adventure bikes. But they do tend to grow on you.

Gotta disagree with you on not going for a cruiser as a first bike though.... because i have a cruiser and its my 1st bike 😂 i found that they tend to be a little more forgiving on the brakes than other bikes. Think the lower centre of gravity also helps for new riders... couple things to keep in mind 😊
@gold5th

Depends on the bike, my 88 Virago vx1100 had a higher center of gravity than the wife's ninja 650 and her Ninja250(not that there's much to a 250). The Virago and Ninja 650 have about the same curb weight.

My first bike was a Honda Shadow 750. Super comfy, very forgiving handling, and the center of weight is nice and low. It was enough power to keep me occupied, but not overwhelming. The suspension was cushy. And the bike was easy to work on and parts cheap to come by. Cruisers get a “lazy riding” rap, but they can be ridden surprisingly hard. I’m in the market for a more modern naked bike now, but the Shadow was a great bike to learn on.

@@rectly That is called an Anecdote, my good man. People might give sport bike riders shifted stares because...well quite frankly Sport Bike Riders by a majority ride like assholes. Cruiser riders are just assholes by default. That is all meaningless. Every rider is their own person. My brother has owned a Ninja of some form his entire riding career and he and I ride together whenever we can, and I ride a Harley Roadster. We can coexist in the same world. I've been passed and flipped off by sport bike riders, I've been ignored by cruiser riders. I've just learned to accept that I'm my own rider, and whether or not I get a wave from a fellow rider or not, or passed when I'm already going over the limit: No two riders are alike. Give them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't see that where I live. Yes I ride a cruiser. No it's not some monster that's nearly 2000cc. I wear atgatt including a full face modular helmet. I've met many riders, from sports, to adv, cafe, even met a couple of them "busa boys" and EVERYONE treats others with respect where I'm at. I've yet to see a rider here that doesn't wave. And if you pull your bike on the shoulder on a nice day... you'll have at least 10 new friends if your there more than 10 minutes. End of the day, it's all about what someone wants to straddle and enjoy riding. Not an attitude. I mean... the guy I ran into while eating lunch last week didn't roast my v star 650, and I complimented his dyna. The rift between riders that was dependent on the type of bike is closing. That's a good thing

Great video, Yammie, they keep getting better and better. I've enjoyed watching you fall into the deepest depths of motorcycle addiction with us! My dad bought me my first bike, a little 50cc suzuki dirt bike, for my 6th birthday and I've been totally addicted to motorcycles ever since. It's been 26 years since my first ride, and I'm just now (within the last year) getting into cruisers. I've always been more into sport bikes and dirt/ADV bikes, but last April I came across a project that I just couldn't pass up. I run a small lawn care service in the spring and summer months, and as I was mowing for one of my customers, I noticed an old bike under a tarp behind the guy's barn. I pulled the tarp back just to see what it was and immediately fell in love: a 1998 Triumph Thunderbird Sport. I'd never seen one in person, there aren't many Triumphs here on the Gulf Coast of MS, and I found this bike very interesting, An 885cc 3 cylinder, classic British cruiser. It was in rough shape, had been sitting outside under that tarp since the guy dropped it back in 2009. Luckily, the guy had kept the engine running and in good shape, he had originally planned to repair it, but got sidetracked with another project. I asked him about it and he told me that as he's gotten older, he can't comfortably ride on two wheels anymore and he was wanting to buy a trike. He offered to sell me the bike for $900, but i was able to talk him down to just $700. I just recently finished all of the major repairs and polishing the bike the best I can, and now I'm riding a sweet 3 cylinder Triumph with less than $1900 in the entire bike, insurance and everything included. Man, nothing sounds sweeter than a 3 cylinder Triumph. I never pictured myself seriously riding a cruiser as daily driver, but I LOVE this bike. I used to live in Austin, I recognize a lot of the places you ride in your videos. I hope to get back out there to visit some of my friends and ride some of my favorite scenic routes out there, and when I do, it'd be cool to get together and ride. Anyway man, love the content, it's getting better and better as you gain more experience riding. If you ever get a chance to ride a '98 Triumph Thunderbird Sport, I highly recommend it. It's a bit more sporty than a standard cruiser, the 885 triple has quite a bit more get up and go than I expected, it definitely doesn't ride like a standard cruiser! Keep up the good work and ride safe, my dude. Keep spreading the Triumph love, maybe someday they'll throw you some sponsorship! :)

I fitted my 2016 M109R B.O.S.S. with floorboards and boy what a difference! And yes, that beast took many sport bikes off the line. She was fast. Power for days on the low revs. Only thing I would change is the bars. Those straight bars with the seat so far back and WAYYYY forward controls made for feeling like I was being folded in half and after a couple hours it was just too much (bad back). I was going to swap some bars out with something more in line with the bars from the Boulevard C line (C90) to sweep them back a bit more. I loved the riding position on my old ‘08 C90T. The fat rubber and long wheel base of the M109 also made for a lot of work doing low speeds around the parking lots but get her on the open road and let her stretch her legs and it was glorious! At the end my heart was broken though. Mama decided it was time for her to start touring with me and even though I had the pillion she was never comfortable on it. Said it always felt like it was trying to throw her off the back. Didn’t help when I confirmed her suspicions by telling her, “Of course she is trying to throw you. Susie is the jealous type.” Long story short, we put Susie up for adoption and brought home a bouncing baby Star Venture in 2019. That Venture is a good ride and runs much cooler after break in, but she’s no 109...

I have loved cruisers from the start. I was never interested in going fast , though beating cars at a red light is still fun. Started out on a cheap Chinese 250 cruiser. It did what it needed to ,but I soon wanted something bigger with more...well just more😂. So last year I sold it and bought a second hand 1994 Honda steed 600 vlx. I am loving it. The Steed makes my old Chinese 250 feel like a toy. Someday I would like to move up to a 1200cc cruiser, but that would probably only be when I retire😂.

I'm 6'3, and cruisers offer better distance between the seat and pegs than almost any other style of bike. There's plenty of tall adv bikes, but their peg position is often as cramped as a lot of naked bikes.
@darryllzwiers7257
@darryllzwiers7257 Год назад
I'm gonna edit this. My m109r is still a beast. Heavy, powerful asf, will kill you if you think it's cornering about matches its acceleration. However, anything above 60mph tries to lift your feet off the pegs. No torso wind protection. It's lovely to ride on a still day. Terrible in modest wind. As stable as the bike is it offers no buffet protection for the rider. The wide tank and motor sweeps the wind in between your knees, forcing you to use muscles that nothing bit bareback horse riding would. I know, I've done both. I've owned 3 cruisers and the problem is always a constant. All of those faults start to over take the emotional joy you feel with a cool asf chromed out torque monster between your legs. Eventually common sense leads you to look elsewhere. Yet you'll still be reluctant to give your cruiser up. They're a scary asf bike. Even a meagre 60hp is deceptive. They're high torque and low Rev. Will accelerate fast enough to get you into trouble. Will corner poorly enough to make the trouble worse.. yammie is wrong. A lot of cruisers are far harder to handle than sports bikes. And people still try to ride them as fast as possible. I've whooped my mate on his ninja 400 on my m109r through tight winds. But I guarantee he was the one cruising and I was holding on for dear life 🤣🤣🤣

Great video,Yammie. Would be cool to see you get a cruiser one day,I think that you would probably like something like a V-Max, Rocket 3 or XDiavel. I personally have a cruiser simply because of how comfortable they are,I feel like I could ride mine for the whole day without my wrists and back starting to hurt. I also like how you can customize them and make them unique,from small details like putting on a pair of leather saddlebags,to turning a bike into a bobber or a chopper.

I just bought my first cruise a year and a half ago (sportster 48) I had been riding spot bikes for years... totally different animal. Many of those kick ass skills learned on a sports bike do not transfer over to a big heavy modern antique of a bike, but man! I luv the sporty, it’s all metal and there is something righteously soulful about the bike...

I can dig this video. I definitely fell like the cruisers are great options for older riders that want to kick back. I bit off way to much bike as a first, but I can definitely say a 1275 sporty was definitely a better choice than a 1300 sport bike. The Harley is fast but I definitely enjoy just lopping along. I feel that on a crotch rocket I’d be more tempted to crack the throttle. The whole vibe of the upright relaxed position makes it more conducive to just wanting to chill.

Hi Yam, I rode with a group 16 years ago who all had big cruisers, mostly Harleys. So when I decided to get a bike last year I picked a cruiser - Suzuki Boulevard C50T 800cc but HEAVY - 650 pounds! Now I wish I had bought a lighter cruiser but I’m still enjoying the one I bought and as soon as weather and health permit I I tend to rack up a bunch if miles - cruising!

My first ever bike was a 2007 Honda Shadow Spirit 750, shaft drive. And, I must say.. I was really impressed. Extremely low maintenance, enough power to haul 2 full grown men down the highway without feeling slow (ask me how I know), and aside from normal maintenance upkeep, have literally had zero issues with the bike. For anyone that has never owned a cruiser, including papa yams, I definitely encourage you to pick one up. I bought mine with 800 miles on it for $3,000. And it was worth every penny! Also, very easily modded. Not a fan of saddle bags? Big windshields? Ape Hangers? Passenger seats? Sissy Bars? No problem! Make it a solo rider bike by turning it into a bobber. Or keep it as is for longer road trips with the wife/gf.

I have chicken strips that embarrass some sports bikes. I also have a CBR600 and should be acquiring a Yamaha R1 shortly. Which leaves you guessed it, an adventure bike. Exception to the comfort part. They just look comfortable. Feet forward and inadequate suspension are no good in absorbing potholes. Neither is the bent back forced by a combination with too far/too wide/too high handlebars. Cupped seats may seem comfy, but they fix your ass in a single position that gets very painful very fast. Granted, some cruisers are more comfortable than the others, but the core concept can't even hold a handle to a 70's UJM, let alone a modern dual sport or adventure touring bike (don't even get me started on real tourers or even maxi scooters). Additionally, the wind protection is either nonexistent or is a bad afterthought (fork mounted windshields? Ever tried one of those at highway speeds?). On the plus side, the tank is usually small enough to force you to stop often to relax and pose :).

Now I’m 35 and I got my first Harley and I really like the way it feels. The sound, it’s got plenty of power and when I look at it I dont see plastic, I see nice paint, brass, steel, and aluminum. It has a classic look to it that is timeless. I’m not into the huge “living room on wheels” bikes. But if you like em that’s fine. Plus, i don’t wanna hurt anyone’s feelings but it seems like women like riding on the back of a Harley more than a crotch rocket🤷🏼‍♂️. The only issue is the lack of clearance when turning, so I scraped the hell out of the floorboards; but it wasn’t as fast as the sport bikes on the straight away. @@deathtwh2963 get what you want, my first bike was an 04 ninja 250 about a 10 year old bike at the time, but newer 300s have about the same power as older 500s. they have plenty of power and will let you learn everything without being scared of it, also you can get them with ABS which would have saved me a few times. times have changed and 300s are no longer entry level. people track day them all the time, yam has a ktm 390 as a track bike. they are alot faster than they used to be, they're still cheap and safer, also cheaper insurance, get what makes you happy but most of all. get on a bike before you make up your mind. an R3 is alot lighter and more maneuverable than a 700. riding a bike isnt all about speed, it's about the experience of the wind and being close to the road, feeling open and free. on a bigger bike you wont get that same experience, you'll be too concerned about accidentally giving it too much throttle or how you can take a turn up ahead and not focus on what's around you and genuinely enjoying it.
