I am a sport bike guy. I have always felt that getting around a corner fast was the point of a motorcycle. I went to work for a Harley-Davidson dealer and got to ride a number of big cruisers. I learned that the riding experience between a sport bike and a cruiser is nothing alike. Both experiences are fun and rewarding but they are totally different.

I think they just look cool. I feel cool on mine. I have recently gotten an older ADV type bike and find it's a great combination of both worlds. You can ride it in a more "performance-oriented" kind of way through twisty roads etc. but you can also just cruise the open road in an upright seating position. It doesn't look as cool though... Since I bought the ADV I know the responsible thing would be to sell my cruiser (I really can't afford to have two bikes...) but so far I have found myself reluctant to do so...

Funny enough, I picked up a shadow for literally $150 with extra parts, but without a carb. Found out the frame was bent. Bought a new frame for 600ish usd. new carbs for 200ish. So even considering the labor of swapping everything over to the new frame, I'm still under 2k. Additionally I got to KNOW that bike and the added benefit of turning wrenches (it's own reward for some of us.) I highly recommend buying an old trash bike for nothing and turning it into EXACTLY what you want. Whether that's a 636, a shadow, or a YZ. Specifically to spend the time on YT or forums learning about the bike intimately. I'll never sell that shadow. Luckily, because it's a Honda, it will probably outlast me.

I'm a scooter guy, but I can sympathize with this video a lot because most points apply to scooters as well, and I understand how sports bike guys don't tend to think about reasons why anyone would prefer a less performant type of bike with other advantages in different fronts that just aren't taken into consideration by them. Scooters also allow you to take a laid-back approach to riding and enjoy the scenery without worrying about going fast. Maxiscooters are amazing for passenger comfort, easily being a strong contender for the type of bike with the most passenger comfort. And the point about the community and group rides, I think it's the same for scooters. They have other advantages too like the built-in storage or the automatic transmission, but if you look at it from a purely performance-oriented point of view, even the fastest of maxiscooters are terribly slow compared to a sports bike, so I understand why they don't like "slow" type of bikes, but there are plenty of reasons to love them if you look beyond going fast all the time.

Cruisers got that name as a type of bike, typically post WW2 army and cop bike lines, turned into boulevard show cruisers for cruising Friday nights at Mel's Drive In or the American Grafitti strip. They were definitely not comfortable for long irin butt rides. Interstate bikes started to appear on the 70s for long smooth cushy distance in mostly straight lines and adopted the cruiser name. I agree with all that you say about cruisers. However, where I live in Maine, the roads are mostly rough, frost heaves, broken pavement, no shoulders, etc. Most cruisers have very little rear suspension travel and that would make enjoying the scenery difficult due to spinal compression. So, to enjoy the scenery here I went with an adv bike to soak up the rough roads. Great video.

Time stops for no one, we all get old, but that doesn't mean we have to age out of riding, there's always another bike for us. Some Tacoma smashed into my Mustang a few years ago n now I have the bottom of my Cerebellum (part of brain) almost fusing into my Spine (Chiari Malformation). I can't do the whole riding position on Sport Bikes anymore, neck aches after just an hour. I still respect ZX10Rs, R1s, Ducks and many other sport bikes, but there's something to be said about melting miles away on a fat cruiser or even a nice Naked/standard. We try to stop many things in life, but the march of time isn't one of them, we all grow old, things get harder, made even harder if you get injured along the way, that's a simple fact, but hey? Yammie taught me a lot, and I disagree with a lot of the shit he says. I’m a cruiser rider, I ride an 05 HD springer softail, probably going to get a sportbike next, gonna test drive one soon because I want to get a feel for the riding experience. I love my cruiser. It reminds me of being a kid and just cruising down the road on my bicycle. Except now my bike is big and loud and beautiful with lotsa chrome. Most relaxed riding position, just feel like I’m laid back on a couch 🛋️ rollin my way along, and I have all the power I need. Would be nice to carve the highway on a sportbike, but I love how my cruiser with my springer suspension just lays waste to any and all bumps. It’s so smooth. And I still get places in half the time as in a car, because lane splitting is legal where I am.

"Cruising" is relaxing riding, preferably down 2 lane highways, scenic byways, doing the speed limit or less, possibly on twisty roads, without dragging your knuckles, knees, boots or shoes, or footpegs on the roadway in the corners. It's having a bike that has lots of torque to power out of turns in taller gears with a minor twist of the throttle to get the job done, instead of dropping down 2 gears to race out of the apex of the corner. It's about wearing out, through normal riding, the center of your rear tire, not the sides. It might be about going riding after your kids are out of the house and out of college too, and riding is for pleasure, or it's a retirement gift that might be more expensive, to yourself, upon your retirement. It might be your first Harley Davidson softail purchase, new or used. It's riding for pleasure, not for purpose. I bought myself, at 64, a HD Sport Glide. Don't let the name fool you.... It's the predecessor by 5 years to the Low Rider ST, all based on more suspension travel of the mono shocked softail, with inverted forks, a mini windscreen / batwing faring that's fairly comfortable as a cruiser with an aftermarket seat, like a Saddlemen Explorer. Big on displacement, big on torque, and low on horsepower... it's got locomotive breath when you twist the throttle a little bit. Pretty much everything a Cruiser should be.

But when I hit the age I could afford a motorcycle I went with a cruiser. Something about a V twin, a machine without any bells and whistles, being able to just roam the country side in little groups was much more satisfying than risking my life at 150mph on a highway. My dear man. First of, YN is an entertainer in the first place. You can call him a clown if you will, but he is literally here to - 1st entertaint and - 2nd inform. Talking everything what he sais seriously will lead you to buying a turbo busa as a first bike. I absolutely would not agree that performance is what he praises in his moto life, he praises fun the most. And thats unfortunately true, cruisers are not fun, at all. And then you go arguing about how a cruiser is about scenery, low seat height community etc. Truith is, outside of seat height, a good adventure bike will do everything better. 1st, you can cruise on any bike outside of dire sprotbikes, even on sport tourer you can absolutely ride at 40 mph while enjoying the view. On an ADV bike you will have the same view as on a cruiser, if not a better one. Its the same for naked. I have 6 degree lean forword on Sportster and wooping 7 on a Honda CB1000. And 0 on a GS or Africa Twin, i can just seat totally upright. This is exactly what Spite sais in his video about cruisers - problem with them is that ADV bikes are just better at what cruisers suppose to be best at. Yes, lower seat height, that point stands. So basically if you want scenerey AND a lower height and you can sacrifce better engine, better brakes, better electronics, better seating position, better cornering, better offroad capabilities, if you can drop all of this because you need a lower seat height - well, you got me there. And for community i am sorry that point is just your personal matter. Finding a decent riding group that waits for everyone and stays as a group is totally irrelevant to a bike you ride. My friend rode with one infamous 1 percenters for 3 years, (he quit after completeing his time as a prospect since he realised he didnt want to tie his life with criminal activity for the end of it) he said they ride like literall animals. Totally cruiser riders, like you cant be more cruiser guy than a 1percenter international MC. I have some mixed groups we ride in a pack and wait for everyone if someone cant keep up. For me the number one reason people like cruisers is because its magical appeal. And Yammie actually talks about it, its some magic, some huge back story ascosiated with riding a cruiser. And the way V-Twin feels and sounds - well nothing does it like that, I would actually say that every reason you advocate outside of seat height is actually less important then a huge appeal cruisers has emotinally and mythologically, if i may. V Twin sound, classic looks, low torque, drrrdrrdrr between your legs - thats why people actually ride cruisers. TLDR - you can cruise on any bike, while having even better view and comfort for you and your passanger on specifically ADV bikes. Riding groups is something composed out people, not bikes, just find one you are comfortable with. Low seat height is unbeatable tho, thats true. Oh and ride what you enjoy, dont let anyone affect your life choices. Just be safe. And YN, as much of a clown he is, is an immensively passionate and well informed person who does a great public service. He hates Ninja 650, and i started on it and consider it one of the best beginers bike ever. Someone once mentioned him that in a drag race Ninja 650 outperformed i think Aprillia and Yamaha, and he responded to that with "still sucks lol". I would be mad to take that seriously. If you want to promote cruiser riding i think the best way is to be passioned about and do content. Look at brian_636, that dude alone almost convinced me to buy a Harley. Lol.

Hey good video ! Funny enough, I had a FZ 09 2015 before I sold it 6 years later for a HD FatBoyLo thinking it would be more comfortable for longer rides, well, to some extent, the bigger fuel tank was a plus, however, it did not feel more comfortable, at all, even with a full Batwing shield the buffeting was worst than naked FZ on highway, the seat all though more cushing was not great due to the very small ammount of suspensions on the rear. The riding position was, not so great either, only thing I liked was the low end torque and very low center of gravity, but the 750+ pounds of weight was a pain to carry around on stop light and garage. And the constant fear of dragging the very low lean angle was also bad for me, You are right though, very different machines for very different purpose. Both great in there own ways and for each there own ;) I am now in the market for a XR1200, best of both world :D Peace and keep up the good work ! Retro bikes are one of the hottest segments of the motorcycle market today. Which tells you right up front that performance is a secondary consideration, after aesthetics and reliability. What could be more retro than a cruiser? The basic cruiser look will always be a throwback to designs from the 40's/50's/60's, long before mono-shock suspensions, aluminum frames, and a$$-up ergonomics. Modern sport-bikes are so powerful they're way past the point of being fun. Riding like a monkey on meth on the street is a quick way to get your OFF switch flipped by a texting Karen in an SUV. Have owned all of the above...I'll stick to sport nakeds.

Yeah, Yammie I stopped watching after he canned Spite… and then did his exit interview in public. Nah. That said, cruisers fit a certain niche. I didn’t want one when I was in the city (I did own one and threw about 45k miles at it), but I prefer sport nakeds. THAT said, my daily drive is an old BMW. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don’t follow YN. I have a metric cruiser & other bikes. I’m glad you pointed out the comfort myth. There’s a lot of silly design ergonomics about cruisers (upright, no wind protection, forward controls, high bars etc etc). If you look at real tourers (goldwings, fjr1300, st1300 etc) or even adv bikes, you can see how ergos are designed for comfort.

Like and comment just because I don’t like yammie for what he did with Spite. And I’ve realized now that I’ve got 5+yrs of riding under my belt that Yam is like a first or second grade teacher. Great to learn your abc’s and 123’s but you outgrow it and the info is left in your brain but the teacher fades away. In those years I’ve learned that the litre bikes in the super sport category or just the razors edge for riding at limits. And all the other categories have their own place to shine. For a guy my age an SS is too much work. So I’ve settled into an mt09sp naked for thrills and hard rides…and a street glide special for just cruising’! Those two bikes might be slightly different, but I’m sure you get the idea. There is no 1 bike for all. Next one up for me is an MX…specifically looking at the Yamaha yz125 since it’s a 2 stroke ripper like I remember em to be.

I think it would be easier to understand Yammies video if it was "Cruisers Suck if you want a sports bike", Yammie said in the video he loves cruisers and he knows very well that cruisers are simply for cruising.

I have an R6 and a sportster I like both but I think the R6 will kill me sooner than the sportster so I spend more time on the Harley

Yammie Noob isn't a responsible road user, I just watched a video of him allegedly doing 190+ mph on a public road, I only hope that when he kills himself he doesn't take anyone else with him or traumatise any unfortunate witnesses. I can see why you like your cruiser, good visibility, unhurried progress thru the landscape. I think I'll subscribe because you aren't Yammie Noob. Ride safe

There one more reason to ride cruisers - they make you look really cool, even if you're ugly in real life. Trust me on this 😀 My opinion based on experience - level of comfort for me + level of comfort for my passenger (typically my GF), the ability to view the scenery while riding (yeah, like you said "cruising around") and the overall solid (aka fully sufficient) performance for longer trips made it the ultimate type of bike for me a long time ago. The moto-vacation we had were some of the best, and this trend & feeling of satisfaction is still there 100% today.
