As a waitress, the only time I ever sit with a table is when I've been specifically asked to do so. Some people are lonely, others want to check on you. For clarity I also live and work in a small town where most people know each other
@pvic6959
@pvic6959 3 года назад
how do people ask? is it straight up "please sit with me"? but yeah small town makes sooo much more sense. in a big city like LA, no one has time for that and it would be awkward. but in a small town, soon everyone is an acquaintance so its not awkward

@@pvic6959 typically they will pat the seat or gesture to the table, I had one guy that just wanted company because he was lonely and another that was a couple that had seen me in pain and offered to help by sending me to their dentist and saving me from a very bad infection. As a Starbies employee, we “have” to table touch and that’s like where you go up and basically have a full-fledged conversation with your customers and we do it because we like it, we actually enjoy talking to you guys especially if your regular and we know like about your family or kids or your work or whatever. I have a table of older regulars Frank, Patty and, Tony. All retired and I love hearing about their daily plans and their grandkids and kids! They’re definitely my on of my fav set of regulars!!

I worked at a bbq restaurant for 16yrs. I would always sit at the table with "regulars", especially when invited, and I'd also squat at the head of a booth when taking orders. Apparently, Rhett would've stiffed me if I ever waited on him.

As someone who hasn’t had a waiter sit at my table, I’m very confused. Why do they sit at the table? To take your order? To chat? IM SO CONFUSED
@Jamjamsart

usually when they take your order, and more than likely because they have been on their feet all day and can't ever sit.
@syndicateleader6396
@syndicateleader6396 3 года назад
It would only be done to chat a bit. Taking your order and other interactions should be done normally standing up. I've never done it myself as I would just stand beside the table and chat or lean on a chair or lean on the side of a booth. It doesn't look professional to sit at a table in my opinion.

I've been a waiter for a few years here in the UK, and we only really sit with people if they seem ok with it. I would usually ask if they mind if I do, and the guests I served were usually really cool with it. It's really about a judgement of character, and I guess here in the UK people seem to like it especially the crouching down so that you're not speaking down to them.

Not a waiter but I've had waiters who have sat down at the table and I liked it better than the alternative. It feels like they are taking a break almost while asking what you want and as a former waiter I can appreciate that.
