Also, all those pictures are of the same item. You can tell from the pattern. Why is there a big drama about ONE person getting funny looking blush? She probably left it somewhere hot. One of my lipsticks fell apart the other day. Did I post a rant about Burt's Bees? No, because it was hot and humid out.
UK black girlie here, I had no idea that the fenty hair pop up was happening - they hardly advertised it at all, which is very weird because usually brands doing pop ups like to market it as much as possible on their social media, especially its happening in Central London. Secondly, I’ve had a similar situation to the poor girl at college (which I guess you can compare it to sophomore year, not university), I won’t get into details on what happened but when I tell you, I never felt so belittled and ugly in my life especially as a 18 year old, it was traumatising. And I don’t even have 4 type hair, I have naturally curly 3b/3c hair. If you’re not using the correct products on your hair like particularly black owned hair products, even if you have 3 type curls/mixed with a different background then you’re considered as an outcast. You’re not doing the bright undereye UK black girl makeup trend? You’re an outcast. Unfortunately in London, colourism and hatred especially amongst black girls and women particularly towards deep/deep tan and especially dark skinned women is a major issue. But if you go to other places in the UK particularly other cities like Manchester or Birmingham, it’s a different story. But heck, even something like that can still happen ANYWHERE. It’s been like this for quite a long time now. It’s normal when it shouldn’t be allowed to be normal🥲
Also just want to say, you might want to check out the videos about Rich Luxe has made about Golloria on his RU-vid, because what he has said about her and even his audience in the comments are absolutely disgusting. Especially about the YSL sh** show He’s practically making her a new target because he’s bored whilst waiting for Mikayla to do something drastic. I wouldn’t use him as a source for a lot of things because he is usually looking for clout or following other lies that haven’t been confirmed or he has made up.
I'm a UK girlie and as I watching I was surprised as you was that the fenty pop up happened I follow fenty and still didn't hear about it. I feel like it wasn't marketed very well. I must say I have 4c hair and I have found some amazing hair stylists in London but not in other places. There are a lot of people who don't know how to do 4c hair I have a deep dark skinned foster daughter and she just read your comment and she does not feel like the colourism is as prevelant as you claim in London we live there and I'm dark but not super dark and I have had some really good experiences buying make up and hair products. I think the problems is people learn at home and open shops and hair schools do not teach about afro hair my friend is a hair dresser and she said that she had to take extra classes to learn about afro hair so the problem is institutional if people are not taught they have to go out of their way at extra expense to learn how to do afro hair.
@@deedeedussard definitely!! I agree!! I guess it’s the same for those who do nails, lash extensions and etc. but I’m just a graphic designer, not a hairdresser 💀 I’m originally from East London but moved to Essex (the yeehaw areas of it) when I was quite young and lived there for a really long time. But since working in central London for over 2 years, especially at my last job, I’ve definitely noticed some interesting stigma around how I was treated as a “deep tan” (to the makeup world when I’m literally shade NC45 or just “dark” to Barry M💀) black girlie. And I will admit, it took me years to teach myself how to figure out my hair and how to tame just in case I have kids. Bless having a mum who used to be a hairdresser and the world of curly hair TikTok! 🩷I don’t let anyone touch my hair whether they’re a hairstylist or not, unless you’re gonna give me tips of what products to use and how to use it from a video standpoint😅
@@pocky-chan766 yes 💯 on the nail techs because some of them bwoy they don't really seem to know what they are doing. Yeah central I find can be not great for afro hair. I live in South London and have had some good and bad experiences but more good. I've had people tell me I need to relax my hair ( no way and I couldn't because I was burned at one point and was told explicitly no relaxer for a minimum of 4 years because of the chemicals) but I have also had amazing experiences the whole new thing of going with your hair washed I have never experienced. I've had great products recommended to me that have worked wonders on my hair. I have that hair that the shrinkage is real and so can take a long time to blow dry correctly and I've had people work on my hair and it's looked relaxed by the end of it but with no heat damage. It's hard to find a good hairdresser for everyone but I think it's harder for us
imo, if you're supporting someone who admitted to texting underage fans, then you deserve nasty blushes. supporting predators is disgusting, and supporting their brands is worse. ❤
I’m not shocked at ALL. I have natural 4c hair and none of this surprises me. Nor does this happening in London surprise me. There is still a LOT of rampant anti-Blackness in the UK and especially towards Black women who do not straighten their hair or wear wigs/weaves. The stylist being Black herself means nothing. She herself has been programmed and TRAINED to only handle hair that has been straightened and her comments confirm this.
I don't want to minimize what you've said in your comment because you are 100% right and these are important matters that needs to be discussed more, but I must say, you look absolutely gorgeous!
This makes me so sad. I work at an Ulta in PA and I always wish I could have people come to us because we have a couple in-house stylists who specialize in textured hair and I feel like our store is very diverse and accepting in general.
I hate to see that this isn't shocking even overseas. I live in an area that 'caters' these types of hairs and even here this situation that occurred is not shocking. The amount of people who feel forced out of their natural hair for 'standards' is upsetting. I think that it should not be this hard for everyone to be treated the same based on their hair. The only positive if u can call it that, hairstyle programs and certification in my state require you to learn about all hair types, but alot of backlash has happened because unless you are paying to be certified you are not legally allowed to do certain hair types.
18:37 I'm white AF with straight hair and I can tell she's not doing this right... 21:00 i love that she comes back with better hair than they could ever give her lol
instead of engaging in conversation and connecting with her potential client ...she demonstrates a lack of wanting to NOT be there and I would have sent her home for her lack of hospitality and skill. Rhi Rhi would never. eesh
9:32 moldy? That does not look like mold. Also cream products act like that when theres temp changes. During summers in lisbon, my mac lipsticks would sweat a bit. People are so dramatic. Ffs.
33:02 I loved being able to watch you apply the 'whats on my face' section of the product report! I always pay the most attention to the way people use/apply products, especially the way you hold your brushes, which brushes you use, etc. I'd love for that to be a feature for both Whats up in Makeup & The Product Report (if they're filmed on separate days with different looks!) 😊
Loved the little mini review in the mix of what’s up in makeup 🥰. IMO it’s much better than the here’s what’s on my face and a couple of swatches. So please, please do consider continuing to do this!
I wouldn't buy any product from JC because I don't like him but this blush thing is being blown out of proportion because of who he is. The first Fenty cream blush I purchased had the same issue, most of them do, I just wiped it off.
Yeah I've had a few cream products do similar things in really humid climates. I am absolutely not a JC fan in any way, but the reaction does seem over the top.
If you love hippos, you have to check out the hippo family at the Cincinnati Zoo: Fritz, Fiona, Bibi, and Tucker. I followed Fiona (7 years old) and Fritz (2 years old) growing up, and it is still so cute to see them interacting with each other. You can also check out archived footage of the hippo "children" as babies. Fiona was premature, so she was on the news and attracted a lot of attention at the time of her birth. They are so cute that you forget hippos are one of the deadliest animals.
Yes Fiona’s famous engagement photos were massively viral back in the day. My name is Fiona so I’m a huge fan of Fiona the hippo, but I just love hippos full stop. They’re adorable, Pygmy or not.
As a former hairdresser, it’s actually EASIER to manage natural hair, we LOVE untreated hair. I’m not a pro at 4c hair, but I have experience in ethnic hair care, and if all this woman was asking for was a wash, blowout , and mechanical straightening, this was such a dream of a service! Yes, you don’t hit the scalp with the straightener, what you use is a hot comb on the roots. (After using a heat protective product).
Most hairstylist here in the US have not been formally trained to handle 4c hair. I get my hair colored at Ulta and they did not know how to do my hair. They are now trying to educate by requiring classes but it can be quite frustrating for us.
I love a queen that puts her makeup on with her hands and fingers lol. I wondered how your makeup always looks so natural and now it makes sense. I'm definitely going to have to try that eyeshadow and gloss trick because that looked amazing on you!!! How is the staying power when you do that? Love your videos Jen. I think I watch you more consistently every week than any other creator I follow.
half your age (25) and also a buffy fan. i started watching circa 2008 around age 9 when my uncle let me watch with him and my aunt. it soon became a ritual, and we restarted the show bc my aunt and uncle were on season 3 and i... wasnt. whenever i go to australia to visit my family, my uncle and i usually end up watching at least one "buffisode", or episode of btvs.
As an Black American woman, it doesn't surprise me. I have seen black hairstylist, who have a majority black clientele, treat their clients like shit. They may hide straightening chemicals in their shampoo and conditioner, chop off your hair, and treat you like an inconvenience because they have to do their job. I just do my own hair now or honestly have gone to a white salon. Stylist of other races are now starting to offer services for my hair type and they almost seem excited to have me. I have only gone to 2 so far but both have been great experiences
My niece is biracial. She has blue eyes and course hair. Her dad and I have googled and watched videos to educate ourselves to fix her hair. Every woman and girl deserves to feel beautiful in the natural hair and skin. The fact this "professional" treated this woman this way angers me. It's 2024, we have to do better. I would be in jail if someone spoke to my niece this way.
Any salon should strive to make your experience perfect, I'm sorry that youve had to distance yourself from people who would choose easy over satisfaction. My barber school made sure we knew how to handle different hair types because they never wanted us to be in a situation where we couldn't offer a basic service to somebody based on hair texture and density. I'm so grateful, I didnt know it wasn't standard.
@feitme agreed and I'm happy you learned and can service everyone. The price of going to the salon now, people should be having excellent customer service.
This once happened to a MAC lipstick I received from MAC. I live in Texas and it was the summer. It was no big deal. I called they sent me another one and the next lipstick arrived fine.
I don't have type 4 hair, but I do know natural texture is not something just for any "stylist". That experience, even just hearing about it, really aggravated me as someone who did chemically straightened her hair for 10+ years and finally got her natural hair back after 18 months into the curly hair journey.
@@MyLadyGodiva except it SHOULD be. The problem is that most hair schools treat teaching about Black hair as an afterthought. It’s not even part pf the core curriculum in most schools. It’s basically an elective. But if I were wanting to be a stylist I would take the time to learn - it only broadens your potential customer base.
@@AmeerahMuhammad overall textured hair is already a challenge, I cannot even imagine what people with type 4 go through. I don't think I would have been able to finally accept my natural hair, if I had not found my curl specialist.
Biochemist here! Even though products like that are likely very safe to use, it doesn’t make for a good product experience and can affect application, so I wouldn’t want that product either if it were me!
Please do more get ready with these like you did today. I really miss your reviews. I understand why you don’t but this was amazing and I really want this collection now. Thank you.
The way I was listening to your video while doing my nails and looked up to see my video about the Mini Brands! Thanks for sharing 🥰💅🏻✨ I love your channel!
I've mostly have always had Black stylists do my hair and it's not uncommon for them to complain about the texture. "Oh well your hair is natural so you can't expect it to be too straight!" etc. Texturism has been an issue in our community for as long as I've been getting my hair done since the late 90s. I only get my hair done for special occasions now.
I’m not personally surprised by the issues at the Fenty hair event. That treatment from the stylist is something I’ve dealt with here in Maryland so often that I just stopped going to salons. I haven’t been to one in years. It’s sad, but typical. It is nice that Fenty tried to make it right though.
@@ellegilyard1348 finding a natural hair stylist was a game changer for me. I don’t know the situation in Maryland but here in Chicago there are stylists now who specialize in natural hair. It took me a while to find the one for me but I have been seeing my stylist for over a year now and I love her.
I just gotta say, that woman in the zip up gray hoodie, shoulda got up and left the salon. How awful to be treated like that. I felt so disrespected for her. What a hostile way to talk to a client when you’re supposed to be giving a the best customer experience.
I absolutely like you reviewing what you are wearing today. I think it fits with the format. You are giving use first hand review that is definitely news worthy. PS the minis have my heart now. I want to collect them now.
Oh wow I thought you were joking when you said do you know of any palette that looks like this one- referring to the Alter Ego palette. I I’m sure you know by now that it is an exact dupe of the Huda Pretty Grunge. 😎😎😎 For anyone that is not familiar with these pallets they are EXCELLENT quality. I have at least five of them that they have done over the years and they are all great. I ordered this one as soon as it launched Thursday. Can’t wait to get it😎♥️ Oh yeah --it is also only $24!!!!
Omg I know there's so much more to this video, but the whole "mold" analysis makes me feel so much better about a HUDA palette I got. I thought it was mold and all the other replacements had the same spotting on the cream color. I really love the rest of the colors and made do with them despite not knowing what the spots were. Now I feel a little less guilty about having them on my face regardless 😅 Never had any eye infections as a result of using them, but that adds another level of relief. Strange that so many brands are having issues with developing cream makeup, though.
I use eyeshadow on my lips for many years also and I'm 54yr. I use bronzer on my eyelids also. I do this when I'm in a hurry! It lasts all day and looks amazing!! ❤❤❤ Been in makeup for years way before youtube. Love your content 😊❤😊
Overtime I’m realizing that I’m not a very picky makeup consumer-I’d use that JC blush no problem (just looks sweaty), I’ve used drugstore makeup that looks like that and lipsticks that have been fully melted and re-solidified in my car. Like come on people! I understand if you want a refund bc it was expensive but it doesn’t look BAD.
Watching you get ready threw me back to the periscope days! It made me realize just how long you've been part of my Sunday routine. Thank you for being you! Edit: Jen, get the minis for science!
Happy Sunday Jen Luv and Collective Brain :) I love when you randomly drop beauty news here and there because its related to the channel in my opi opi :) love to ya'll with marshmallows on top
4c American here. The fact that the issue is a skill issue and not a product issue is so unsurprising. My hair is not only very coarse, but it is also very thick. I can't get braids often because braiders often complain and upcharge me over how "hard" my hair is to work with (mostly when going to foreign shops). It got so bad that after being natural and wearing an afro for only 2 years i decided to loc my hair and learn maintance, so i wouldnt have to deal with other people. I cut my locs after two more years with the intention of re-locing soon, but i went through a couple of uears of keeping it boy short and regularly bleached and dyed until i got tired of maintaining color. Now that my hair is an afro again after 4 years i am stressed about having to get my hair done for my baby shower this month and trying to figure out the nost stress-free style thats not a wig (which ive opted for for while having shorter hair, but am uninterested while pregnant) until i am good with the length to loc again....
I love the little product spotlight! I miss your reviews, especially doing eye swatches of palettes (I feel like not very many people do that), so it would be great to get a mini review once in a while!
About the Mini Brands makeup: I LOVE mini things, and, as a lip artist, I have wanted to work with Mini Brands for the longest time, because I literally create miniature makeup paintings, but now that they are launching makeup - especially!!! 💋 I am not a big fan of not knowing what I get, though - I prefer to pick my stuff. 😁 Although, here, I have to admit, I would love everything!
listen i work at sephora, and the people who say things like the patric ta, or the one size blushes never look like that are lying. i see the same thing an soooo many cream blushes in general that the james charels blushes have. not to defend james, but people are gonna rag on him much more dramatically because its james.
This is exactly why I subscribed to you. You fact check ! You reach out to others when you don’t know for sure! The way you formulate and carry yourself, I subscribed after watching one video! Thank you for your content !
Jen, this was a great episode! Thank you for putting it out in spite of the hectic life stuff; I hope it all evens out soon and you/your fam are taking care of yourselves
As someone who works in the collectibles industry, my personal hack for not overindulging is finding joy in doing the unboxing as opposed to what I get! If I only want one or two, I’ll usually try to find someone selling to trading their duplicates online! If it’s more a product I’m just excited about, I will buy one or two to have the experience of having the cute figures! I don’t need all of the collection because I can e excited for what I have! 💕💖 Everyone is different but that’s what I’ve been doing for years now and what I recommend everyone if they’re choosing. If you love the whole collection of something, buying a full case (preferably sealed) should guarantee a full set without dupes!
When I was about 11, my grandmother worked in a friend's shop. The shop sold only miniatures and was called the little caboose and it was in a train caboose! I got to help sometimes and it was heavenly. She also helped at another shop called wee bit o wool, which was as cozy as the caboose was adorbs! What a great memory, thank you for mentioning fun tiny things, including Moo Deng!
Wording does matter cause when I heard “condensation” that tells me there’s water on the blush and that can mean bacteria / mold. Oil pooling would not bother me .
As someone with 4C hair, even with the "inclusive" label on the marketing and Fenty catering a lot to a lot of Black people whose needs have been long ignored... I hate to say it, but I wouldn't have even bothered going (this is no hate to those who did, I find them admirable for not being as jaded and bitter as I am haha). I find that often when things are marked as "inclusive for all hair types" they almost never actually mean 4C as well. Theres a pointed disdain even within the black community for what is perceived as "nappy" hair, and unless your hair is relaxed or in a looser curl pattern, I personally feel like we're treated as though we don't matter, our hair is naturally "bad", and we should be thankful if someone who isn't specialized knows how to work with our hair. More often than not, "inclusive" means that MAYBE 3's-4A's are welcome but I just don't have the trust that people in a setting that isn't specified for black hair will be prepared and willing to address natural 4c hair without a) struggling b) possibly making an out of pocket comment about how nappy or dry my hair is c) rejecting me outright because they're unsure what to do. Society tries to reinforce our hair is bad at every turn, it becomes hard to enter a non specialized space without assuming they'll treat and see your hair as "bad" as well.
I love that you added in the makeup! All of it putting it on and all! I thought the eye shadow as a lip stick looked very good. I never thought about doing that but I think it's a pretty cool ideal! 💖🙂
32:59 Keep doing the lil mini makeup reviews during the purchased/PR product segment but only if/when it's something u really want to spend the extra time on bc you feel it'll be a value add to your viewers. This week's segment was perfect! Not too long or short and it discussed a collection most ppl might have an interest in (however don't let that deter you from sharing an impressive indie collection/product that really rocks your world!).
