It's small, it's cheap, it's an incredible value, it's obviously awesome.... but this thing can be legitimately confusing and God help you if you are colorblind.
You are correct. I’m a soon to be 59 year old player who’s had a tube amp in one way shape or form for decades. But as I get older I find it increasingly more difficult to lug those amps, and pedalboards to gigs. I also am not that tech savvy, so deep diving into menus and tweaking is very intimidating for me. And, I didn’t want to spend $500 or more for a unit that gave me access to 9000 sounds. I’ve only ever only used only 3…….clean, crunch and lead/solo. So for me…..for a 179 bucks, is perfect 👍🏻
I’m a 57 year old bass player, I only want to model my amp, cab, comp and maybe a drive. With this I can park 3 blocks away and still carry my entire rig easily, but I’ll need to bring a software engineer with me in case something goes wrong.
To me, the Tonex (other than of course it's profiling capabilities) Is a multi-effect unit that doesn't delay or modulate. It does about everything else. Reverb, gate, separate EQ section from the tonestack, compression, any OD or Fuzz or Distortion.
So in toggle mode you can switch between amps AND in on/off mode it can be f. i. a drive pedal? I think that's perfect. You can have it on your board as a direct solution, and when you use your amp you have another drive/boost or something else. Perfect for a backup solution, just a baby bomb in your bag and if your beloved tube amp bites the dust, flip the switch and on with the show.
Pedal companies, amp companies and other digital modeler companies are all in a little trouble. Next thing you know IK is gonna put out a multi-effects-filled ToneX plus.
I believe if you put some Fralin pickups in that guitar, you’d be astonished at how good it sounds. The$40 Squier sounded better than Goldie IMHO. Y’all contribute greatly to the guitar community and I appreciate it! I like the sound of every other guitar being used in your videos, far better!
You're absolutely right, i would love a firmware update for the big tonex model to add profiles (like 1.amp, 2.drive pedal 3.boost or second drive pedal) It would be killer.
This is so brilliant, as someone who really still prefers my amp, my trouble has always been the high cost, i always liked my modelers but sitting on 500 or a thousand dollars of something i dont love as much as my amp they were always first to go when i wanted some money. 179 is such a good entry point. I think these have the possibility to sell like crazy
TONEX ONE is nice! Guitar processors can make a big difference in sound depending on the CAB IR you use. actually there are many IR products on the market, but I think DYNAX IR has the best sound. As stated in their product description, DYNAX IR is really fast. When using IRs, the pick attack is sometimes delayed, and it is difficult to add picking nuances, but their IR prevents all of that. It's revolutionary!
For me personally what’s wrong with it is their presets are absolute trash. In my experience you can tell a lot about products like this from their stock presets, and this has some of the worst I have ever heard.
The guy in the left had it 💯 when he said this would be the first modeler that people buy. I just ordered one (my first modeler). I only wanted the amps, no need for effects etc. I wanted to try it out w/ my other pedals. I’m a bassist looking to check out other amps for little cost. 😂
Personally, I prefer modelling over capture as it allows for more tweaking and besides, I don’t own a bunch of high end amps I want to capture, so I am happy for engineers at Line6 to model some high end amps for me. I would like to see Line 6 come out with an amp version of the HX One. For me it makes more sense than the effects model as you only need one amp at a time, and having a unit with a screen that lets you easily select your amp model would be very useful, and free up dsp on the Stomp.
A decade old pedal the Zoom MS50g smokes this thing. It has a screen so you can see what you are doing. This is just a modern thing to make people spend money then regret it in a month. The MS50g is around 60 pounds or less 2nd hand. Make junk and say it is 'A.I.'. Wheel out the shills, Profit.
I dislike the use of colors for selection. Something I’ve never heard anyone mention on the internet is that around 8% to 10% of all men worldwide, including myself, have a color deficiency. Therefore, using colors for selection is not a good idea for us. Anyway, I bought the pedal because the sounds are very good! My plan is to bypass my Mooer GE300 amps using the four cables method with the Tonex. Since I play only acoustic guitar, I don’t need all the overdrive and heavy metal tones. I only need clean tones. My Mooer GE300 Lite is sufficient and very good for clean tones, but I wanted to have the Tonex as well.
Hats off to ik for not pricing these like neural, kemper and fractal The tone x is rhe real deal tbh I have qc and kemper, and imo tone x is the best for pure amp tone
If only the NUX Amp Academy sounded this good. Has all the inputs and outputs a person needs but just lacks in sound. Still I use it live because no other pedal gives xlr, 1/4 inch out with a switch to defeat the ir, and an effects loop. I guess I must be a niche player who doesn’t want to use frfr (I did for a while). I love having consistent ir to foh for my ears but using a real open back cab (orange ppc212ob with an Orange pedal baby) on stage.
I really love this concept. I personally dont care about the mini pedal format since a normal enclosure with top jacks takes up the same amount of real-estate, but i definitely respect the engineering aspect of it. Its definitely impressive what they were able to achieve in that size of an enclosure. what i love is the simple form factor and more importantly the price point. Im still new to modeling. The UAFX Dream 65 was my first entry that i enjoyed into this world. It really changed my perspective on amp sims which sparked my interest in profiling. I would love to try a profiler, but its kinda hard to convince myself to try a more expensive unit like the big box Tonex or the Kemper just to satisfy that curiosity. I think the Tonex One is perfect for someone like me to give it a shot since its so affordable.
Your Deluxe Reverb Tonex capture is amazing. Its fat, clean, juicy and responsive. It's the best non tube sound ive ever heard, in any pedal or device, and loves analog drive pedals.👍
I’m definitely waiting till IK makes a big board with all the bells and whistles. I actually modeled my Klon with the QC 2 months after it came out. Actually didn’t like the way the QC captured it and sold the QC at month 3. I missed scribble strips and the unit was way too far behind the competition. I’ve got a feeling a big Ik board is going to crush everyone else. I just really want a helix with capture tech and now it’s too old to buy another Helix and a ToneX One to put in a loop.
9:20 about the used market, IK Multimedia has that market somewhat under wraps because of the Tonex licensing. Theyll make you buy the software package, which often is more that the cost of the pedal! This way they push sales volume.
I think that this is only truly useful for the person that just uses the same profile, set and forget, at all times. I don't think it can really be used for anything else in a live context for amp modeling. Using it for a drive pedal will be fascinating.
Agreed. But that's a lot of people. In the real world tweaking my amp mid set would require running across stage or even to another room. (I'm so glad to not drag heavy amp around anymore too!)

I think the guy on the left hit the nail on the head, ToneX 1 will be the digital amp to get the naysayer's attention! At first, I thought it would be UAFX Dream but +$300 is a no for many!

@@anthonyptak8650 I already use AmpliTube primarily for tone, and have been running my laptop through my acoustic amp, so this is a must have for me. I didn’t want the bigger one because I thought it lacked a few features for the price, and was hoping they’d make a better version soon, but this is a good compromise.
Hm, I just remember I got a Hotone xtomp on my studio pedal board. No idea what the price was, 7 (?) years ago. There I can load of pedals and amps. I think I will revisit this now. 🙂
I’ve had every IK interface except the Tonex. I use IK with an old Line 6 Sonicport VX interface I keep in my “Traveller” EG2 travel guitar Gig bag. Never impressed with IK Multimeida’s sound, but until Kemper makes an iPhone app interface with a really small form factor, they’re the best. I tried to use IK as my on stage tone and it was so lifeless/digital, i pulled it and got my old backup HD500 out of my trunk for the secobd service.
This does look pretty sweet, Never want to go back to that Tonex software though, and I’m color blind… Hopefully the other capture tech companies will follow suit, but with a better browsing mechanism than colors🤦🏽 The width of 1 scribble strip isn’t that much wider.
No, pedal users wants one thing = analog gain/distortion/overdrive into real amp. All analog. They want to feel like there’s no question about the legitimacy of their tone. I think Kemper and Neural DSP are sweating a lot 😂 I mean ToneX is scientifically better (null testing have proven) and now every guitarist can afford this little sexy pedal.

I’ve captured my Klondike KTR and a few other pedals and while they sound very close, you lose the flexibility and gain range the pedal gives you. The real pedal sounds “magical” but the attire sounds like a facsimile without all the range and special sauce that makes the pedal attractive in the first place.
So for pedal captures, I get how you should capture different GAIN & TONE snapshots but what about VOLUME/ OUTPUT of the pedal when capturing? Set it at noon for all captures???
If it does custom IR there shouldn't be any reason it can't do acoustic IRs. Although if I put it in the location where I'd want amps that's not the same spot I would put acoustic IRs, so likely that will remain hx stomps job for my use case.

My main recording tone (minus fx) is the *J. Rockett Blue Note* into the *Tomsline Shaper* for 2x12 cab simulation, so it's like I have a 2x12 Blue Note combo. Could this combo of pedals be captured in the ToneX One?
I dunno. If you buy two you'll end up buying three. Then you're at $540.00 for 6 Captures live and only Reverb and a Compressor. I think the Kemper PLAYER wins this battle...IMHO, and that's with zero updates from Kemper so far. One things for sure, IK Multimedia marketing completely destroys Kemper marketing...the weakest part of the Kemper is its lack of marketing skills.
I use the quad cortex for everything these days. But I do have a grab and go type board with my favorite drives and verbs this definitely is something I may add. Probably add the 65 deluxe like on my qc lol.
I’m having g a big issue with the tone x one. I’m going straight to the computer ( win 11) and the out on the pedal into an Frfr. I cannot edit with software because there is the tone of the pedal playing at the same time as the software playing a tone. I can’t use the software to edit at all or even see what things sound like before I even add it to the player. Big pain in the butt.

I just bought a Hotone Ampero mini a few months ago. Definitely bigger than the TONEX One but I like the touch screen interface better. It also has all the effects and plenty of amps and cabs too. Plus it’s got a looper and rhythm section. Now I’m wondering if I should have waited for the TONEX One as they’re about the same price. I’ll see if anyone does a side by side?? The Ampero mini doesn’t do captures at all but I do use it for travel and headphones practice. Anyone tried a comparison?
How would you compare the IK Multimedia tonex one with the spark modeller from positiv grid...?(i have one) Just the quallity of tone i mean...! Are there better amps for metal sounds in the tonex as in the spark software...? Please answer...! Thank you...😊
Good job screens were invented years ago. These people think flashing lights are an advancement. Next model will require you to understand Morse code or better still Braile. Zoom MS50G puts this to shame. Now these guys say it is cheap but expect you to buy two. $360? Just buy a real modeler.
You're better off just getting a multi effects unit instead of buying 2 of these pedals. The Ampero 2 stomp or the quad cortex would handle all of this tbh
I have had an LT for around 5 years and every time I see new equipment I can't justify buying any of it. the LT does everything I will ever need plus tons more
@@BH-fi1sb same here. I mentioned the stomp because of the size. It’s the goofiest thing: I know some folks will say that digitally profiled stuff sounds better than digitally modeled stuff, but I don’t hear it. I don’t want to try to sort through which profiles are good and bad, which ones suit my needs. Creating a helix preset for me is just like setting up an amp and pedals.
This is "profiling" rather than full modeling. What that means is the owner of that Klon would dial it in to "ideal" settings and run the profiling process. That means that the resulting Klon profile would respond exactly (or as close as we can reasonably achieve with current tech) like you glued the knobs in place and then plugged your guitar into the pedal. You get an accurate response which is often indistinguishable, but you can't twist any of the knobs on the pedal. Because of this, many times you'll see people produce capture packs that have multiple different capture files included. For example with a Klon you might have captures for a clean boost, then low medium and high clipping settings, and maybe even more captures with different settings on the tone knob. People also do captures WITH pedals enabled (NOT time based effects though), so if you downloaded a capture called something like "Klon low gain + Dumble ODS" that one proflie gives you the sound as if you were running that same signal chain, just again with all the knobs glued in place as they were originally set by the capturer. The knobs you see on the Tonex units are post-amp EQ rather than corresponding to the tone stack of whatever profile you are running. TL;DR: think of a Tonex profile as someone dialing in that Klon or amplifier for you, gluing the knobs in place, and handing it to you. Can't change the actual pots and switches on the circuitry, but you DO get to play through it.
It can happen! Mind you, there will be a stack-up effect of latency, approx 3 mS per pedal. 2-3 pedals could pass for negligible, but after that the latency starts to make you feel disconnected from the instrument.
Is this unit the Line 6 Pod Express antidote for capture tech fans? And for the wet/dry or stereo fans or anyone wanting to run 2 pedals in parallel, is there a latency issue for the ToneX One to consider when running different programs?

Why cannot IK Multimedia let you combine Overdrive pedals with the Amp Captures?I know you can have a complete Capture with OD and Amp models baked in one capture but i would rather have a choice of different Overdrives that i can select to go along with the Amp Captures?
Because they're squeezing into the hardware capabilities of a small pedal that costs $179. And like you said, you can bake in all the combos you want and switch them just as easily as controlling the overdrives independently. Sure it is a bit more work, but you can achieve the result you want.
They could still maybe model 3 different overdrives for example:Boost,Klon and a Tubescreamer!A baked in OD with Captured Amp is still not the same as having independent overdrives to choose from and be able to tweak the overdrive with Volume,Tone and Gain controls!A baked in overdrive with captured amp is set in stone!
The pedals don’t capture… the software does. The Tonex capture box is optional. It’s just designed to help you set levels but your interface sends and receives the signals.

This video comes off as a sort of cringy sales pitch. I mean, how about you guys at least ACKNOWLEDGE that the lack of midi in on the T1 makes it VERY limiting on any live pedalboard relative to the full-sized ToneX? Without midi, at best, you've got two captures to feasibly toggle between (probably clean and dirt), and god forbid you need to switch your effects at the time you switch your amps. You'll have to jump up in the air and land on at least two things. The best use case for someone committed to the ToneX ecosystem for live amp use is to use a T1 as a drive pedal and the full ToneX for your amp. You can trigger capture changes from your effects unit or switcher, and just turn you T1 drive on and off or bring it in and out with a loop switcher. But even then, $179 is more than many good drive pedals cost, so why wouldn't you just get an real drive pedal so you could actually CHANGE your settings and dial it in? With the T1, you are stuck with a drive pedal snapshot and have to switch captures to vary the sound. For home use, the T1 is useful, but if you are new to ToneX, it is probably worth it to just buy the big pedal and have all the additional features and the Max software. I am struggling to find any real use for the T1 other than a cheap home intro into the ecosystem. And I'm a happy ToneX user. Watch - in 5 months, everyone who intro'ed to ToneX via the T1 will be selling them to buy the big pedal.
I'm actually selling the big unit to buy the smaller one. I just need an amp that can fit on my board and I don't want to feel bad about paying for functionalities I don't use.
@@daderr99 If you don't need midi switching and can control capture switching from the Tx-One, then that's great. I need midi to switch my captures. If the TX-One just had midi switching, I'd be all in.
