As a former Wingate pharmacy school drop-out I can definitively say that many anti-malarial drugs can do WAY more than just cause "strange dreams" some are known for causing outright hallucinations. Sometimes bad enough to effect a person's ability to function. Plus, hallucinations can easily be influenced by other's, these are sometimes called shared hallucinations/delusions. Basically, someone else says/does something to suggest or "prime" a hallucination in another person, OR both parties shared an origin experience earlier (like an odd woman on the street) and took subconscious note of her, so they both experienced hallucinations involving an "odd woman".
@RenAsterion
@RenAsterion Год назад
....good to know. I'll keep that in mind for if I ever need to go somewhere that requires me to take anti-malarial drugs. Don't want to think I'm experiencing a haunting when I'm actually not. That's just boring. lol

@KazehanaAyame The big ones to watch out for are Quinine derivatives, like Chloroquine, and especially Mefloquine/Lariam. They're known for causing delusions, visual, auditory, and tactile hallucinations, suspiciousness/paranoia, and anxiety. On rare occasions, usually in folks predisposed to such, these drugs can possibly trigger psychosis &/or mania, but again that's a worst case scenario. The FDA recently required manufacturers & pharmacies to put stronger warning labels on these drugs. Also, lack of sleep and use of other substances (like alcohol etc...) can exacerbate these effects.

I used to work in hotels. Learn how to check for bed bugs- every time we stay in a hotel, the first thing I do is lift up the mattress and check for bugs and/or blood spots. Use the luggage rack so your luggage doesn’t sit on the floor. Use the additional door locks, even in a nice hotel. At best, it’ll prevent housekeeping from barging in on you, ditto if the hotel accidentally double books your room (which happened at the Double Tree where I used to work). Working in hotels ruined hotels for me- I avoid them whenever possible and we actually bought a camper because I’m so grossed out by hotels.

I went to a hotel, sorted out my clothes for the next day, had a shower, got changed then walked about 100 metres to have a few drinks at the pub. Was there only 1.5 hours then walked back to my room and closed the door then sat on my bed watching TV, with that being the only light in the room. Suddenly I heard panting, then saw a dog walking from where the door was. It was a great looking solid English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and friendly as hell. So I leaned over to give him a pat, while wondering how he got into my room. As I got close to his head, he simply disappeared in front of me. As I've had experience with the paranormal, this didn't really phase me. When we left the next morning I casually mentioned about the dog. Turns out, that his owner was sleeping in that room one day and had a heart attack, and that dog stayed outside that room till it died. All this happened 23 years before. Seems like the dog is still entering the room to check on people, and NEVER caused any problems. Except for one guy that apparently didn't like dogs, and went to literally kick him out of the room. His leg went through the dog then he broke a toe, when his foot hit the wall instead.

ALWAYS listen to locals if they tell you an area isn't safe. I live in Cape Town now but grew up in Pretoria (South Africa for those who don't know). Once when I was younger and living in Pretoria I came across this elderly German couple walking around Sunnyside just after sunset (a not very safe area, if you know, you know), they were wearing their travel backpacks and heading to a candy vendor on the street (these people often work in regards to the illicit substance trade and with other unsavory syndicate activity, especially if they're posted in a low pedestrian trafficked area). I was luckily on the right side of the road, and stopped in front of them, asked them where they were going and gave them a lift, apparently other locals told them to not walk around there but they didn't listen. Nearly lost it at them but politely advised them to listen to locals about bad areas otherwise they might just end up victims of a mugging or just dissapearing. I hope they're doing okay though and wizened up in their travels

Yeah, the story about those two European girls backpacking through India had me instantly going "wait, how is it no one warned you what a terrible idea that is?!" immediately thinking of what happened to those poor Dutch students Lisanne Froon and Kris Kremers. Many European tourists seem way too optimistic about the world. Really nice that you helped that older German couple. I'm an American living in Europe now, and it's amazing to me how safe people feel here. I was raised a very different way, and I won't even open my front door when I'm not expecting someone.

Not necessarily scary but the first time I went to Thailand I opened my hotel room and there was a person in the bed and they double booked the room. When they got me a different room there was a blood all over the bed, dried not fresh. So obviously, as any intelligent person would do, said third times the charm and checked out door number 3 and it was fine. I ended up living in Thailand for 4 years lol.

Not a hotel, but a cabin my family stayed in once when I was about 13. The whole time we stayed there, the dog kept throwing up and peeing inside the cabin. (He was an adult and fully potty trained by this point, and he'd never acted like that anywhere else before or since.) At first we thought, okay, maybe something in here smells weird to him. Then my sister took a shower, and when she got out, she saw "welcome to stabbin' cabins #1" written in the fog on the mirror. Other weird little moments happened while we were staying there, but those two were the main things.

So this didn’t happen to me, necessarily, but I was there for it. This was back in 2017, I had just gotten a new job at a brand new hotel as a night audit- basically a front desk associate who runs all the numbers for the hotel overnight. It’s usually a pretty quiet job and I didn’t normally see anyone until about 6-7am when guests were checking out early. This night, I was just fucking around, making myself a white chocolate mocha, and suddenly this middle aged dude walks in from off the street. I get excited, because again, I usually don’t see people, and I give him a warm welcome and ask him if he could use a room for the night. He says he needs a room, and I’m just stoked to finally have *a* guest staying with us. So I ask his name, for a valid form of ID, and a valid credit card for incidentals (like if you wanted to charge snacks to your room or you steal pillows or something). Dude says “I want to pay cash for the room”, and I tell him that’s totally fine, when he checks out, he’s more than welcome to pay cash, but we do need a card on file for incidentals (per policy). He gets a little argumentative (I assumed because most middle aged men get sussy when it comes to their card info), but he relents and gives me what I require to book him a room. I give him his key card and wish him a good night, and when he leaves the lobby, I’m back to rolling my rolly chair across the lobby as far as I can. An hour and a half later, two police officers showed up. Naturally, I treat them like any guest, warmly welcome them, ask them if I can get them a room, etc, and they ask me if Mr. Middle Aged Man checked into the hotel. As front desk, legally, I’m not allowed to disclose that information on a normal basis, but they flashed their badges and I told them that yes, Mr. Middle Aged was checked into our hotel. They tell me to call my manager as MR. MIDDLE AGED WAS TO BE PUT UNDER ARREST, and I was just like 😬 as I called my manager, who was at first pissed that I called him at three am, but as soon as I told him the cops were here to arrest a guest, he told me “10 minutes”, hung up on me, and drove to the hotel to meet us. He has his master key with him and he escorts the cops to the room that Mr. Middle Aged is in. I heard some door-kicking and then a very loud POP, and I only found out secondhand what had happened. Mr. Middle Aged was wanted for the crime of beating his wife with lethal intent with a weapon (unsure what the weapon was, to this day), and he thought he had killed her but she was still alive and had their Google home call the cops when he left. When he got to the hotel room, he dead-bolted the door and apparently just sat in the room until the cops showed up, to which he pulled out a gun and put it in his mouth. Luckily, this guy was a dumbass and ended up shooting through his jaw and ear instead of blowing his brains out, so they were able to take him to the hospital, stabilize him, and arrest him. Thank god I got the card number, because we had to charge that credit card for the blood-spatter clean-up, fixing the window because the bullet shot through his jaw, ear, and the window, and of course repainting the room. I really hope the wife is okay, but that guy can seriously go to hell.

I stayed at a near empty Hotel during the off season, where there were only about 5 ppl staying spread out in a 100 room Hotel. Nothing really happened although I was thinking "Haunted" as I went back to my room late at night with minimal lights in the hallway. In the morning I woke up at dawn, and suddenly froze, while staring at my window. I had 100% certainty that the curtain above my window was going to fall. And then the curtains fell down with a loud crash. Not really a scary story, but kind of weird.

I travelled around eastern NA for three weeks, with most of my nights spent at friend's places since they were kind enough to host me, but I did have to stay at a hotel on three separate occasions. The weirdest experience was probably at a hotel in the Canadian maritimes when I stayed at a massive hotel that had about three large convention spaces between the three floors and a small inner grass courtyard. The rooms were all along the perimeter and my room was functionally on the opposite side of the hotel from the front desk and down a floor. I also checked in on a Sunday for two nights in December so, minus the random events planned in the different spaces, the hotel was rather dead. I don't think I had anyone else booked on my floor so other than the mid-morning knock on the door from housekeeping asking if I needed new towels I didn't really interact with anyone. The room was also quite dated and because I was on the ground floor I had a massive glass sliding door that could be opened to the previously mentioned inner courtyard which I think I triple-checked that the door was shut and I had to adjust the coffee table in the room so that the curtain would completely cover the glass. At least I had the hot tub to myself.

I had a group of friends I booked a room with during a comic con. We snuck in some extra people, which you’re not supposed to do. Anyways, earlier in the day, we took the elevator to get up to our room. We pressed the floor number. It ended up taking us up to a floor that wasn’t in the directory. A floor that doesn’t exist… The elevator door opened up to a creepy dark maintenance corridor. We joked about how creepy it was and that it took us to the backrooms. I peeked around the corner and no one was in sight. We waited for the elevator to close and it ended up bringing us to our floor. Fast forward to that night. we needed extra blankets and pillows. Around 10pm, two of the girls in our room (in their early 20’s) went to go down to request blankets and pillows. They get to the lobby and an employee comes out and says “follow me”. He was probably in his late 30’s or so. Mine you, This is comic con, so the two girls were dressed in fairly skimpy/sexy cosplays. The girls were hesitant but went anyways because it was just for getting blankets. The guy gave off weird vibes. He took the two into the elevator which brought them into the backrooms floor. As if the previous incident was foreshadowing. The guy told the girls to wait alone in the hallway while he went to fetch blankets. Luckily one of the girls brought their phone and secretly filmed the whole thing. The guy came back with blankets smiling and sent them back to our room. He said “see you later ;)” They were super spooked by the whole thing. In the morning, we told the front desk about the whole situation and described the man. They said no man who looked like that worked there and that no guests would ever be brought to the maintenance hall. The hotel gave us a refund and said if we come back for next years comic con, we will get a discount.

29:13 - Waking up and still having your mind in “dream mode” so to speak is quite common. Sleep paralysis is an obvious example, but I have experienced many times where for the first 10 minutes after I’m awake I am hallucinating audio and then the moment I stand up to check it out it’s gone (the scariest was hearing my cousin call out my name as if he was being kidnapped. I ran into his room after like 10 minutes of him calling to find he was asleep the whole time, so definitely not real). My mom hasn’t hallucinated for more than a few seconds after waking up, but she’ll sometimes have pretty intense visions of people in her room with a glowing blue aura casting spells on my dad. I guess whatever process that’s happening when you dream to make you experience stimuli that aren’t there doesn’t always turn off on time. As with the person in the story though, they usually disappear when you jolt up to check them out.

In the US you are allowed to carry/conceal a loaded personal weapon while traveling, regardless of the laws in each state you travel through, as long as it is either, A) legal both were you're originally coming from and where you are planning to end your travel, or B) you are licensed to carry a firearm (or have CCW reciprocity) in both the state you are originating from and the state where your trip is planned to end. This is clearly covered in the large majority of CCW courses. Source- I am NRA certified to teach CCW courses (and begin the legal portion of the CCW applications for my students) in both NC & MI. TL,DR: You DO NOT need to unloaded, or un-conceal, a weapon while traveling, regardless of the specific laws in any state you may pass through, as long as it's legal where you start and end the trip.

And loading it isn't the part that is hard when I'm tired...it's the going out to the back end of a locked truck. And you do have to keep it unloaded when you don't know what state you are traveling to that night and you just stop where ever you are when you can't keep the wheels straight anymore. Not Scary, but odd. In St Petersberg RU. Staying in an apartment. My wife and I just finished doing what husband and wife do on holidays. Recovering in the lounge room when we hear the door unlock. I jump to my feet to find a beautiful woman with a suitcase standing in the hallway. I block her path and she tries to push past me. I'm a big guy so after a few attempts she stops. She tries to talk to me in Russian, we don't speak Russian. All I can say is NIET! Ultimately she pulls out her phone, talks to someone and passes me the phone. Turns out she is there to clean the apartment and the owner forgot to tell us! LOL 😆

Saint Augustine, Florida. My mom, brother, and I were spending the holidays there. We booked a motel, but when we got there, there were no staff members. Not even a front desk. We come to find out that it's a contactless motel for the COVID era, and we checked in virtually. But if a near-empty motel didn't creep me out, I don't know what did. And Saint Augustine is very haunted.

I used to work for Double Tree Hotel by Hilton. I worked on the second shift and I was by myself. My job was cleaning up guest rooms , sometimes I am by myself. I have seen a odd person wondering around the 10th floor , I radio 📻 the front desk and reported the guy 👦. Security guard 💂‍♀️ came up to investigate 🔎 what the guy 👦 wanted and then he was asked to leave the hotel 🏨.

I didn't get to stay a lot in hotels in my life and only recently started doing so for my cosplay hobby, attending conventions. It's all still new and a bit scary for me. So me and my gf arrive the day before con and hang out 6 costumes in total, put out the wigs and props, and a huge make-up collection. In short, our tiny room was a maze. The first night I had a very vivid impression of someone walking around the room. I think it's my gf going to the bathroom or something. For some reason I feel anxious about it, but turn around, don't look at them, and try to fall asleep again. The next morning I talk to her about not sleeping very good, having that bad feeling when she was up, and yet not noticing her getting back into bed. She tells me, she didn't get up. For context, I take medication that mellows my anxiety and helps me sleep, so I wasn't fully conscious when I saw that person. But I have never before or after dreamt of someone walking around the room, even when sharing a room with friends of friends I just met, or at that shady B&B with flimsy doors and a stranger next door. My nightmares are also usually reoccuring and no one-time events. My gf insisted, despite all of that, I probably heard steps outside and my brain made that up. Luckily my 900€ camera and our cash for the convention weren't missing. I guess due to that, and in an attempt to calm me down, she kept insisting. After that we used the door's extra lock (the handle on the outside worked only after using the key card, so I thought at first that was enough) and we placed a chair behind the door every night, after that. I did not have the same dream again, even though I kept hearing people walk by.

So not a horror story, but it’s all I got. There’s this big fancy resort located up on an island a few hours from the nearest city. There’s nothing really up there, save a golf course, campground and beaches. There’s not even a proper store. This resort has been through a few owners over the years, including both Radisson and Lakeview(current), and stood more or less abandoned for several years by Radisson until Lakeview took it over. It’s this huge building on sprawling grounds that back onto the golf course. After Lakeview came in, they cleaned it up and opened for business, but you can still tell it has an uncertain past. I honestly love it there, it’s beautiful and the place has the most. . .I can’t even describe it, vibe, especially in the off season. Then, it’s quiet save for the hum of the place’s own generator. It would be a perfect setting for a horror/ paranormal movie or show. Or book.

It was 1:30am when I was awoken by a loud crack. Someone had not only opened the door to my room, but undone the chain lock thing as well. Turns out it was the husband of the lady at the front desk.... I'm not sure if he worked there, too, or what exactly he would be doing getting into ANY of the rooms at 1:30am. I was traveling alone for work and had somehow been "checked out" while I was at work, but my keycards still worked so I had no idea about it. Overall, a very weird and scary situation. I bought extra hotel room locks that I now take with me whenever I travel (which I often do for work). It's definitely put me on edge whenever I hear noises outside of my hotel rooms at night. I tried reporting it to manager and to Marriott Bonvoy, and while they offered me a giftcard, I don't think they ever actually sent it. Overall, it was just a horrible experience, and I've added Marriott hotels to my "avoid staying here" list.

Not my story but my uncles. Him my auntie and cousins were staying at a villa in France they booked with my other uncle and cousins. (My family didn’t go due to circumstances at the time) the first night there was a loud thump and crying from another room. My uncle went in to see and it was my cousin who was a baby, not taking or walking at this point. On the floor in the middle of the room crying. Outside of his cot. No one could work out how it happened. The next night my uncle could hear children laughing running up and down the corridor outside his room. He got out of bed annoyed thinking it was his daughters (also very young 6-8) he waited till he heard the laughs come past his door as his room was right at the end and there was a bit of extra corridor that some hotels have. He knew he could corner them and confront them and as he jumped out the door there was no one there. Which started to make him question things since he WAS very anti paranormal and thought it was all bullshit. The 3rd night he was starting to get close to falling asleep when he felt the end of his bed depress and as he looked down the bed he saw a little boy and looked again wide awake now and still saw the boy which I said ran towards the window which was like a wooden slide window which rattled when the boy went through it. This woke up my auntie who asked what that noise was. I think my uncle lied and said it was nothing but I can’t remember. But he said he stayed up all night and they left in the morning. They had paid to be there for nearly 2 weeks. But he was happy to lose the money and pay to stay anywhere else. It completely changed his view of paranormal. I was never/am still not sure on paranormal. But talking to him a few years back and seeing how he got freaked me out because nothing scares him. Yet this was a time I saw him get serious and legitimately showed fear. I’m so glad I didn’t go on that trip.

The hotel door latch is NOT secure. Seriously, do not depend on it, it's SUPER EASY to open the shut latch. Watch a u tube video and you will see it can be easy opened in seconds and it will not make a sound. The rubber door stop is one of the best security measures and always check the windows, especially if the outside is a textured wall.

More (hilariously) creepy than scary but stayed in a B and B in Hannibal, Missouri on a trip with my mom ten or so years ago, and overall, had a great time. One of the attractions/tours we went on was a local ghost tour that included exploring a graveyard with ghost hunting tools and passing by several hotels that were said to be haunted. Part of me wondering if there were any ghost sightings at our B and B. There were not, but lo and behold, someone had died in the room we were staying in back in the 1800s. While I did get some sleep the night after I learned that, my overactive imagination didn't do me any favors XD

Bit different as I (F, 22 at the time) wasn't a guest, but a new employee at a crappy hostel. It was like an old house turned hostel. No night shift front desk after midnight, and I opened at 6:30 am. No other employees until 9:00 am. One morning I was alone at the reception, and a guest comes over and closes the only door in the office I was at. Starts asking weird and creepy questions like if I'm alone and at what time people arrive and if there's other guests and if they're early risers. Then as he gets closer to me he casually points at the roll of tape I was using to close boxes and says "I could tie you up with that, and you couldn't escape I bet". I instantly reply "I don't think that'd look so good on camera" and I point out the security camera. He laughed and immediately left. It was such a malicious encounter I genuinely wonder if I misinterpreted something. Fucking terrifying. I ended up telling the owners and they kicked him out. While cleaning the room, housekeeping found a SHIT TON OF DRUGS

Being someone who accidentally caused horrific experience at the hotel. It was one of those school trips sort of things and everyone from my school new are suffered from night terrors so they all had noise cancelling ear plugs. On the third night in we see the owners of the hotel walling around drained with ashen faces. We learn that on the night we arrived they were discussing the idea of selling the hotel that they inherited, only to be met with blood curdling screams every night. They were convinced that was one of their great grandfathers being upset with them upset with them wanting to sell. We chose not to tell them because we would have been throwing out. On our last day before checking out and trying not to smile mischievously, I told the owners that we performed a blessing and the screaming should stop. The skeptically thanked me, but seeing I wasn't there to screaming the night was all the proof they needed

So ive not even told anyone this story but my mom. Last year i went to a wedding in jamaica, stayed at a nice resort although the resort did look like it was a few decades old. Id had a few weird problems with my door locking me out. Atleast one out of 3 times was my own fault, but by the third time the maintenance guy just made a new key for me and reset the lock. Now i wasnt in the hotel room for most of the trip, but after the wedding i was kinda sick and stayed in my room most of the day. At one point later in the evening i heard some one knock on my door, but there was no one there. Didnt see anyone in the hall so dont know where they couldve run to or why. Later i was on the toilet and they had a phone by the toilet for some reason. It rang, i picked it up and only heard this frantic sort of static beeping, like it was shorting out or somethjng. That night i couldnt sleep and felt like shit so i took a long relaxing shower with the lights dimmed. When suddenly i heard another knock at the door, only it wasnt the front door. It was my bathroom door.

Me and my family were on a road trip and we stopped the night at a town called Raniganj. The hotel was sorta in a remote area a bit away from the city. This hotel was old as shit. Looked like it has never been renovated. The rooms were weird as well. The ceilings were high and the bathroom smelled horrible. That wasn't even the worst part. I kinda vaguely remember some light tapping at the door, which scared the life outta me. Truly the worst hotel experience I had. Also in Kenya there were hyenas howling outside the tent where we stayed so it was creepy.

22:15 if this was in the states, it's possible that was a remnant of the underground railroad. Most of those places either get boarded up or turned into tourist/historical spots, but it's not impossible. Or, depending on the city, it could've lead to underground tunnels. Seattle for example has an entire underground city that's pretty much been left to rot.

I believe I’ve told this story somewhere here before, but whatever. September 2018. Staying in Cape Cod for a cousin’s wedding. My Dad got us a “beach house” for the trip. We come back one evening to find the lights won’t turn on. The power had been cut. Dad proceeded to call the owner of the property to figure out what happened while Mom and I sit in the dark talking. Eventually it comes out that ownership had changed recently and somebody forgot to change/pay the power bill. Owner was super apologetic and paid for a proper hotel room nearby for the remainder of our trip. Wedding was beautiful, but the flight home out of Boston on September 11th that year wasn’t exactly pretty. That’s an entirely different and (compared to the actual 9/11) mild story.

Fiancé and I traveled to Ohio in 2018 for a small trip to Kings Island. I ended up booking the wrong hotel. Similar name, drastically lower tiered hotel. I went down for a smoke at 12 am and came back to realize I didn’t have my key. Go to the desk and am informed that she can’t help me get into my room without identification or my fiancé letting me in, due to many unsavory things happening in the past. Problem is fiancé is asleep and not hearing his phone. Eventually I woke him up. The next day we noped it out of there, while walking out we see a couple and the woman’s eye is blackened. Ended up finding the initial hotel I was trying to book. Much safer, cleaner vibe.

I checked in and was given my hotel key on a recent trip. Head to my room, tried to open the door the attendant gave me verbally - wouldn't open, look at what's written on the cardboard holder and it had a different number. So, walked down the hallway and proceed to open and enter the room only to have it pushed back and a panicky voice asking what I was doing... I'd been given the same room as this poor lovely older lady. I apologised and went back down and had it fixed! I think I gave her a heart attack... Also gave me one if I'm honest.

The time that group of young men, dressed all in black, with ski masks on, start peeking into the lobby windows & then walk right in though the front door of the hotel and start walking the halls, looking for someone. And then random people appear, from rooms also wearing ski masks, & people who were just hanging out, pull their knit caps down over their faces, (because those also happened to be ski masks), and quickly disappear upstairs. It was like the worst kind of flash mob event. The original masked men eventually leave, apparently not having found who they were looking for. Good thing, though, as I didn’t really want to know what was in that random bag they were carrying. It looked heavy. Or was it that time that shirtless guy tumbled out of the elevator, sweating profusely, and screaming at the top of his lungs about how none of this was reality. He hurled himself into a stairwell & continued screaming there, where the acoustics were better. Truly disturbing. No wait, perhaps it was when that elderly man came up to me and asked me to call 911 for him because he was having a schizophrenic episode, and then, as he became more & more agitated, started to describe to me in minute detail everything he was experiencing. I don’t know anymore, pick a day, get a story……

Grand Union Hotel in Fort Benton, Montana. Stayed there a few times. Lovely old building on the river and lots of stories from the locals. Only two things ever happened to me there, but one was just an owl that spooked me by saying hello right above the door I stepped out of to get some air. The other was a little more unusual. I heard the papers I left on my desk shuffle and then what sounded like someone sigh and then breathing lightly. If you've been to Fort Benton, it is an incredibly quiet place, especially at night. It was unmistakable. I sat up and saw an inky shape standing near the window like someone lost in thought and not realizing I was there. I could hear the breathing coming from it. Decided that I was either really tired or it was just an imprint at worst, so I went back to sleep with no issue. It really is a beautiful building, but being used to more modern designs of hotels and motels, some of its curvy halls and door placements feel strange. If you can afford it, try one of the big suites, especially the one right in front of the haunted staircase. Supposedly you can hear the ghost hooves of a horse that comes from when a drunk man climbed the stairs back in the old days on horseback and got shot by the original owner of the hotel.

Not scary, rather a bit funny too. In 2009 I was on vacation in Egypt with my boyfriend at the time (gay couple), because we looked somewhat similar, we of course pretended that we were brothers. We also respected the culture of course, no touching, kissing etc in public for us, that was for granted. But that did not apply to the room, as long as the curtains were closed ;-) The second morning we wanted to sleep a little longer, we arrived at 4:30am the night before and had a turbulent flight and needed some more rest. So I hung the "Do not Disturb" sign on the door. We set the alarm for 10am and went to sleep. The next morning I woke up because I heard a soft cracking sound. My friend was snoring. I must have dozed off again and suddenly I heard noises again and opened my eyes. There was a room cleaner standing in front of us, he got huge eyes and stood there with his mouth open. I was terrified, especially because my friend hugged me from behind under the blanket and cuddled with me. Egypt is not exactly known for its open approach to homosexuality. I said for whatever reason, "Hi? Would you leave, please?" and the guy ran out, slamming the door behind him. Where I began to speak, my ex woke up and he laughed so hard until he couldn't breathe. We had nothing to worry about, but every time I met the room attendant in the last 12 days of staying and said a polite hello, he'd tear his eyes open, stammer something in Arabic, and run away. Oops.

I was in Tijuana with my sister in law and her 3 kids. We were at a local hotel, if it was my choice I would have picked another place but we were told by my ex to go there while waiting for them to show up the next day. So we had the door open because it was hot and no AC. Some drunk guy walked in and sat on one of the beds. OMG! We asked him in English and Spanish what he wanted and told him to leave. He just mumbled something we didn’t understand and stared forward. I told my sister in law I’d go get someone from reception. The manager came with me just as we arrived the guys son showed up. He had been warned before to not be that drunk and was kicked out. It was creepy and we weren’t sure if he was going to do anything. We felt lucky he just sat there. He wasn’t a big guy, I was probably 6” or more taller but still, he could have had a knife or something so we didn’t want to physically remove him ourselves. The manager apologized and said he didn’t allow people like that in his hotel, I was thinking sure dude, I think he just said that because he knew I’m American and didn’t want his hotel to get a bad reputation but I told my family, never again, next time we splurge and stay at the Hilton that was twice as much but safer, considering this place was about $30 a night (20 years ago) I didn’t mind paying the difference myself for a nicer place.
