@@ThairishTimes great video Pete. I've had messages with Pat before about his brief Leeds background and he's from my childhood area of Horsforth. Could you and Pat do some live vlogs, you're a good combination. Maybe walkabouts with him, he can do the history and you can do the banter with the locals. It would be very entertaining.
Excellent piece. IMO Pat has the best Thai/Bangkok related channel going. He's humble, funny, extremely knowledgable.... editing and production is excellent, and his relaxed easy to understand delivery/presentation is relaxing to view (never boring). A real cut above most others out there. Great interview BTW.
Another excellent interview of a RU-vid legend! Just love knowing more about Pat because I so thoroughly enjoy all his videos and cinematography. He’s a real artist and should have half a million subscribers. Thanks for bringing these interesting folks to us!
Pat's channel is great. I feel exactly the same way you guys do about youtube., I get fed up with people coming to Malaysia (where I live) for a couple of weeks and spunking out a load of videos with clickbait titles and this is the BEST food/place/hotel etc. While I have been ignored for years. (But deep down inside I know my videos are crap) However, Pat's are excellent and super informative and he deserves many, many more subscribers and views.
Watched this a year ago.I can relate to a lot of it.The "Monger" Channels do nothing for me,so, keep at it Pete (& Pat) - I prefer quality to Trash Quantity. Cheers Mate !
Pete, thanks a lot, that was a lot of laughs mate, although you left out the part where we had to escape my cat fan club, who followed me, thinking I was excluding them from a new video. Don't forget my next video intro....
You two guys are a very welcome addition to the Bangkok cultural scene. Bangkok Pat seems like an interesting character, although I have never met him. Cheers, guys . Great job.
Just want to commend your bravery in sharing your life experiences and some low points in your life. What came through is a real authenticity that is really rare in these candid style videos. My own life experience resonates with some of those you mentioned. Thanks for sharing this.
Since I started watching Pat's channel I'd wanted to know something of his back story. Thanks Pete for bringing it to us. And my best wishes to both of you.
The teacher being a bully is something that happens all to often I was bullied by multiple teachers growing up then my son had to deal with that once he was brought to tears in front of his entire school that's where I drew a line caught an assualt charge for smacking up the teacher and he has been out of the public school system ever since
Pat's fast become one of my favourite expat Thai vloggers. I like the history. It's a unique take on Thailand from an expat - and he clearly puts a lot of time and effort into his films. Don't go down the lazy live stream route, Pat!
There are definitely many travel "vloggers" on RU-vid and so many are from rookies that know nothing about Thailand, fail to do research; thus, their travel experiences in Thailand seem to be entertainment for them and maybe their friends and family. Since I have lived in Thailand for 17 years (lived/ worked near Bangkok- now living in Isaan retired) I follow 4-5 different "vloggers" that suits my interests. Bangkok Pat is one of them since he gets into the historical background of Bangkok; Pete gets into interviewing interesting people living in Thailand; "Retired Working for YOU" and another one about living in Isaan. It was nice to watch this interview and learn about Pat's background and was surprised to see him have such a quiet personality. Good fellow for sure.
One of the many things I like about your channel TT is sometimes I have watched other RU-vidrs and NOT liked the other RU-vidrs at all as I've thought they were PRATT'S, or ANAL, or SANCTIMONIOUS, or ALL three! Have STOPPED watching them and even BLOCKED some as I found them so annoying. Not mentioning any names of course. But after seeing some of these RU-vidrs interviewed on your channel I have seen a totally different side to them. A more relaxed side. Discovered what makes them who or what they are, and as a result, ended up thinking hey they are ALL RIGHT PEOPLE AFTERALL! ... Thanks TT ... Yes, I'm still Living and Learning in Life (-:
Only discovering your guys content in Feb '22. Guys this is great stuff. The family and I have always loved Bangkok/Thailand/SE Asia. We're in Australia so no travelling for two years now. It's content like this that keeps the dream alive. Big thumbs up! Thank you
The walk at the beginning reminded me of reservoir dogs !!!!!!!!!! Great vlog Pete to a great story . Pats channel is so amazing the detail and effort he puts in makes his vlogs so interesting. His back story is very moving to what happen when he was younger then deciding to go to Thailand to find out more about his mothers side of the family and to now where he is with his tours and RU-vid channel. Thanks for doing this interview and the length was great. Ps I hope that was the gear stick you were pulling at the end 🤣🤣 stay safe
2001 I remember the days when there’s were more cheaper food courts and better value for money. On his videos when he talks to the camera is he using a tripod? I agree with all he said about Bangkok turning itself into shopping mall city. But look closely at those malls. Same shops same merchandise. One mall is just a clone of another.
Hi from Chiang Mai! I really enjoy both of your videos. Bangkok Pat because of bringing out an often neglected history with a keen sensitivity. Thairish interviews done with a sympathetic and sincere line of questions that can make people who make appear ordinary area caught in the extraordinary circumstances of their lives. Kudos to both of you. Take care and stay safe. Cheers, Keith(old international aid worker)
We are watching and learning Pat, keep up the good work, Have lived here 13 years ,now more Aussies come live here thanks for your wise stories of Thailand.
A great video featuring my 2 favourite Thailand RU-vidrs. You done a top job on the interview Pete, some good questions and your relaxed style allowed pat to open up and share his interesting story. Would be nice to see you 2 collaborate more often
It’s November 7th as I write this and I just watched this video. As an avid fan of Thailand RU-vid videos I was instantly drawn in to this video of Bangkok Pat. You did a great interview Peter. Pat is an absolute legend. My career before retirement was 40 years of dealing with the public so I naturally I can see through 90% of the BS that was part of my everyday. There’s so much to say about this video and the great interview you did Pete. I just hope one day I get to meet both of you. 2 absolute legends and that’s my 2 cents from this guy from America 🇺🇸
I love Pat's channel, but I feel there's some gaps in this story. The channel indicates he joined in 2013, yet the videos go back only a year. On top of that there's a lot of great production values in terms of editing and presentation of both video and audio. On top of all that, the historic information with supporting photos and video. Care to offer a part two of this interview? 🙂
That story about the teacher hit home for me. I burned my hand in a high school science class. When I got back from the nurse's office the teacher called me to the front of the room to present me with an award for burning myself. The kids in the class had a good laugh about that. I didn't laugh. I became a straight D student in that class. That teacher was a world class jerk.
Hahah , that's when i was there in BKK in the mid to late 80's . BKK was insane Patpong and Patpong 2 and 3. Soi Cowboy was out of control , those were the days.
Well, well well look at this!? My two favourite RU-vidrs in the same video? Haha, Nice interview and I love the way you'd filmed and edit the introduction of Pat at the start. Good on you mate :D
Very interesting vlog, really enjoyed it. I love the history of people and places and how we all end up where we do and why. Please keep in touch with one another and bring us more of your thought provoking ideas and insights.
It seems people think the time when they arrived, or before that, was chaotic, and then it changed. The funny thing it that this is independent of the time when they actually arrived. 1970, 1980, 1990, ask old timers like Roger Crutchley or read his book. He arrived on a bus from the UK.
Where did 32mins go. As the saying goes, time flies when you're having fun. Very interesting vlog with Pat...both you guys are the real deal & deserve so many more subscribers on both your channels. Well done Pete & Pat. You should absolutely do more stuff together.
I am behind in watching this video but nonetheless, I really enjoyed it. I like Pats videos, they are different and for someone that loved this city for 28 years, it brings back great memories. Like Pat I like history and the stories behind the streets are so interesting to me. So thank you for the interview. it was very well done, I like your laid back approach. Keep up the good work.
Thairish Times & Bangkok Pat, really interesting insight into Bangkok Pat's life. Thank you for sharing. Can't imagine Bangkok with no condominiums and shopping malls, sounds more exciting back in the day though!
Thanks !!! Enjoyed it. Honest, open talk, there aren’t many like you guys on youtube, keep going, I will be watching! And please, keep it that way, it’s really nice how both of you do your channels, your work, thanks!!! And yes, I absolutely agree, Bangkok in the 80ties was fab !!!! I I used to go to BKK twice every year starting in 1986 because of my business and really enjoyed it, it was absolutely chaotic, but so nice, no mobile phones!!!! We lived in the present without distractions, and if we wanted to contact our families, there was only POST RESTANTE, remember well all those trips by boat from KaonSan to the general post office , i remember the coconut cookies we bought by the piece, ….many days me and some friends would just hop on a public bus without knowing where we wanted to go….just got off when we liked some old buildings or if an area looked interesting……so often we got completely lost, but always found our way home, somehow
You certainly find them. Shopping Malls came along in the 2000's? There have been some around since the late 1980s and 1990s. In fact, in the 90S, Phra Pinklao road went mad with mega malls. Plus Bangkok was a skyscraper city even then.
His story of school times resonates sounds about the same age as myself the teachers back then were hot or cold in regard to attitude to race relations can leave a negative impression on a youthful mind especially in his case just losing a parent must have been extremely hard for him. Always good to see these people eventually find a level path able to progress in some way.
You finally got him. I love the intellectual talk. Epic interview. I was there 12 years ago and I think he's right. The charm is going away but I still love it and am coming back soon. Much love good Sir. Pat is a super star! (you too) ;)
Just saw this! Got to say, thanks! I've wondered about "Bangkok Pat's" story. He has such informative videos and they have become my favorite and 'go to' RU-vid videos. We've visited & live part time in Bangkok for a few years now, and his videos have informed, explained, and shown us things about Bangkok we would not have learned in 'many years' of living here fulltime. Thairish Times, thanks, will be checking out your vids now!!
BBK Pat , an absolute Gentleman , great interview TOPS !! you were right about views of videos ect , it seems if you had 6 half naked chicks with you then you would get about 1 mil views Sex Sells , also boxing (known boxers ) and those bare knuckle fights in pommy land , UFC and also real crime example FBI Files they all get shit loads of views , I would like to see you and Pat get a lot more views as it is quality content ....... keep them coming mate , now off to find another interview cheers
how amazing is that ! I only just finished the video of the lady who's been in LOS for 52yrs and in the comments I mentioned I liked BBK Pat's videos then went to bed , couldn't sleep and switched on computer but while lying in bed I was thinking when I woke up I would check your site out and see if you have done him and low and behold when I got on RU-vid You had a video of BBK Pat stareing me in the face !!!! saved me going through all your videos to find it , was like winning lottery thanks mate keep it up
interesting...btw, in all YT-history I never saw a TH-Video with a Thaiman talking about his honest opinion about Thaiwomen/Farang - Relationships in general. Why?
Do like BKK Pat's intro, a James Bond swagger you might say 😎. Pat has a great info channel and really enjoy his knowledge/history of the area. Another top interview Pete. Cheers to you both.
Amazing guy. Probably grew up in the same type of area as my father though maybe a decade later. I didn't know there were Thai people in the UK back then. I adore his videos on the Thaiger describing the history of different areas. Wish you both the best.
Great video just watched your interview with Pat on his channel now watched this 👌. As you was talking about RU-vid I would rather watch videos that are genuine and authentic like on both your channels then ones that are just made to fit the latest trend
Fascinating on the search for family history. My Mother did extensive geneology work for years. I have bins of her hard copy documents that were meticulous. I was a cop for nearly 30 years (yes, I am from Chicago....lol). I have never seen an investigative case (fille) that comes close to what Mom put together. It still amazes me the work she put into that. Most extensive "family history" case I have ever seen. Absolutely remarkable. Would make Marcel Guillaume blush.
