The main thing is - you need to be able to know how to find your target customers, which art market is the best fit for you, how to make the most amazing offer for your customers, and then how to sell it to them. I have a funny story from a festival a few weeks ago. I sell all original mixed media botanical cyanotypes at the moment. A lady was buying a few pieces from me. Her preteen daughter really liked a mid priced piece. Her mom said, “You can get it but I don’t think it will go well with your k-pop posters.” The daughter got it anyway. It was a funny moment.

I made a video about this, how to hire your first art assistant! It was quite a process for me to get the nerve up to hire my first assistant (the cost, having someone come to my home to work, etc), and that's why I made the video because I think it will be helpful. Personally, I don't have prints made for me. I have always made prints myself because the cost is so cheap when you make them yourself. There is buying the printer and supplies on the front end, but print companies are too expensive and a lot of times they don't make very good prints. I’ll make a video on this in the future to go in depth, but I figured out my target market by trial and error. It’s best to start out with small local shows that don’t cost that much entry fee money and then you can get a ferl for who will be purchasing. You can also look at what you’re offering from a critical standpoint and try to think about who would want to buy it. this could be done before going to an art show to sell.
