Good players always believe there is a logical workable solution to every problem that is just ready to be found and then they go about solving the problem. Bad players tend to be stubborn and resistant to the change that is required in order to do and be better because it’s hard work. Good players have an internal locus of control and bad players have an external displacement of responsibility.
I feel like the part about the best players having that mindset is true because they'd need to in order to have any hope of being that good. So yeah some aspect of that mindset is a pre-requisite to becoming a truly good player. Anything beyond that is just generalizing and almost moralizing to me. This is by no means an absolute. You can work your ass off and that doesn't really guarantee it'll actually pay off, otherwise putting in the effort wouldn't really be a risk but rather a guarantee. Maybe I'm too pessimistic at this point idk.
