Magnus has always been my go to head.

was mine too for many years. If i didnt like the single bevel as much as I do Id still be shooting the magnus.

Have been shooting the Magnus 2 since 97. Have 18 left. Be awhile before I try anything else. Steel inserts give me my weight. Old reliable for me. Never failed easy to sharpen. File ,Ceramic, strop on leather to easy.

Yep an amazing head that has killed more animals than all other new style heads combined in the traditional world. Love the magnus.

Woodsman Elite stainless series 3 blade is my go-to. 200 grains with a 25 grain outsert.

Always a good choice! Woodsman is an awesome 3 blade head!

I thought that Razor was an Iron Will until you named it. They look so similar.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 11 месяцев назад
Similar styles. But razor is much wider and has the opposing double screws, a2 steel etc.
@Nashty74
@Nashty74 11 месяцев назад
I believe Iron Will is A2 steel as well. I don’t know about the double screws though. I may have to look into Razor though, as Iron Will is about $120 for a 3 pack.

Have you found that the wider Single Bevel heads rotate better than the narrower ones? It would seem like the wide blade would provide more leverage on the ferrule to initiate and continue rotation.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow 6 месяцев назад
I have never shot narrow single bevels to compare. But I believe a wide single would have more rotational forces

Magnus has always been my favorite until I shot and killed with a Simmons. Great penetration and amazing blood trails. Robert Carter uses them sometimes and i think Chris Spikes only uses them. Their like a magnus on steroids. You may want to give them a try.
@SamkoTradBow

Simmons are great heads. I'm hooked on the extras you get from a single bevel so the razors fit my needs perfectly. But many animals have fallen to simmons heads. They are excellent.

Thanks Jason, very informative.. I would like to try a 2 blade single left bevel in 150 gr. screw on but, having trouble finding. Any thoughts.

Thank you for your video Jason! My residential area is a prairie, and there is always a strong wind. In this strong windy environment, my main consideration is that the arrow's trajectory is not affected by the strong wind. For my particular strong windy environment, will the two narrow and long arrows make the arrow's trajectory less affected by the strong wind? Please advise. Thank you very much.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
In my opinion blade shape doesn't matter as much because a narrow long head has alot of blade surface area just like a wide head does. It's just longer rather than wide. But still surface area to plane in the wind. My advise would be to shoot a heavy arrow with high foc. Nothing I have ever tried has help in the wind as much as high foc has. The foc weight will over power the heads ability to wind plane.

Very interesting video. Maybe I’ll get into trad archery at some point. To show my ignorance are mechanical broad heads a thing in trad archery?
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
Mechanicals require a tremendous amount of energy to open. since traditional bows dont have as much energy as compound bows do we tent to shy away from mechanicals.
@brycehiigel235
@brycehiigel235 Год назад
I have been shooting compound for a few years and stopped shooting mechanicals. Never consistent. I changed to the Cutthroat single bevel and have had much more consistency. I am just getting into the trad side and really enjoy listening to him share his knowledge

That bishop head is insane! and a couple hundred bucks for one!
@YoureSoVane
@YoureSoVane Год назад
It wouldn't penetrate as well as a thinner blade. It's the head you use to hunt concrete blocks and cattle femurs.
@SamkoTradBow
@SamkoTradBow Год назад
@seanyoung1875 and rhino, cape Buffalo, elephant, hippo, etc. Like it was designed for. Bishop makes the strongest arrow combos in the world for a reason.
@YoureSoVane
@YoureSoVane Год назад
@@SamkoTradBow I'm not knocking it for what it is. It's a beast of a blade. As long as you don't side load it where it'll break at the threads, it's the strongest thing on the market. Because it's so thick it'll penetrate less than other broadheads. It'll go through in one piece with little to no damage to the cutting edge, but it's wedging apart softer tissue instead of sliding through. If what you hunt is so tough that anything else will break, then there's no other choice.
