Good point about the arrow staying in the animal scaring it into running

Yeah interesting to see the difference in real world. Its amazing how fast deer run when the arrow stays in vs pass thru.

@@stevecourtright9856 thats because I personally don't believe in scent control or camo. Not saying anything is wrong with any of that but to me it's not important. I hunt in my normal every day clothes. I wash all my clothes in scent free non uv soap from sept thru April and just wear what ever I have on that day. I also use a scent free soap in the shower and wear scent free deodorant. But it all stops there for me. Only camo I have is a vest and my rain gear (got full set of firstlite rain gear for 225 for pants and jacket when they cleared out the remaining asat patterns they had).

I've been thinking on switching to 2 blades next season. This last season I used Magnus buzzcut with bleeders. Had a pass through at 10 yards on my first buck with a bow. The knowledge and great content provided in your videos have been very helpful.

Great stuff, I am a firm believer the sharper the better, I have also been shooting the Wensel Woodsman lately. I really like them, they seem to penetrate as good as my two blades and they definitely produce better blood trails. Jason you have killed more deer with a traditional bow than any man I know, thankyou for the videos and podcast. You have tons of knowledge through experience.

I have liked the three and like a style that have a point almost like a taper target point before the broadhead sides due to how one can find both bigger game and small game smaller broadheads in this style so the flight will be as close as I can get for both sets if they are the same weight in grains. The big game size is smaller then most big game broadheads but they right on the smaller side big game size due to using 3, I want more pass through with 3 style so this is the size I got. Worst case with what I use is if I have one where the broadheads get bent to the point of no fix or broken I can turn these into target heads. My brother likes the standard triangle three point style with open triangles for big game or the integrated point to the three style broadhead with open triangles. The solid steel or metal triangles get heavy quick for how much smaller they are and why he does not use these. In fact at a garage sale I got him some never opened as old as he is 1993 The Game Tracker Termnator 125 grain 3 blade broadheads as he likes 120-125 grain for some of his broadheads. Not that we have gotten big game yet or even tried with these as I need to work up to using my 45 pound one piece recurve bow then be good enough to hit a smaller spot about the size of a CD or a little bigger for me and my bother not sure.

You're right, they all will kill deer. Just as preferring blonds, redheads, or brunettes, broadheads are of personal taste. My preferred broadhead style is a single bevel 2-blade. It continues its rotation inside the animal with devastating effects & offers a mechanical advantage when bone is encountered. Thank you for your video!

Hi Jason , As always thank you for sharing your knowledge with us .. I would like to try a heavier weight foc. Using my crossbow is an entirely different scenario...20” bolts with very little rear fletch at impact..but my average killing shot is 20 yards with close to 365 FPS & 115 ft lbs of ke energy..I really went through the archery co. Yesterday w/o any success with the MAGNUS ONE broad heads..You have them all ..I was going to ask you to fix me up with 5 so I can experiment with them and hunt also , but it seems like improper protocol on my behalf . My senior (77) friend ..supports the USA with individuals involved in model making..We were discussing your FOC and he has materials that complement your approach with less effort. My present Easton carbon arrow is 391 grains and would like to increase it to 600 grains ..Lancaster Archery has a 125 grain bh 2 blade that sells for $45 each..From a ground blind I can see how exciting it is when you can hit the deer with the heavier arrow..When you feel like it “”” it’s only 5 BD’S “”, keep me in mind .I’m a military vet of two wars with no cartilage in my left knee and think deer probably too much ..My Orthaepedic doesn’t push me ..Only says “”SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN “” Thank you . Good and bad news. Bad news is I'm not letting go of any of my magnus heads (get asked a couple dozen times a year). Good news is there are a ton of great options that will get you higher foc. Check out the broadhead on 3riversarchery.com they have amazing heads ranging from 100 to 300 grains. Also at 3 rivers you will find brass arrow inserts of 50, 75, and 100 grains. On amazon if you type in 200 grain insert you will find 200 grain brass inserts. 3 rivers also sells steel broad head adapters in the 75, 100, and 125 grains. So there are a ton of affordable options to get your weight and foc up.

Hi Jason, Perfect timing for this video. I used magnus stingers without the bleeder last year and I was happy with penetration but disappointed with the blood trail. I'm shooting a 41 lb longbow at my 27 inch draw, 450 grain total arrow weight with 23% FOC. I'm torn between switching to a 1.5 inch wide 2 blade or going to the 4 blade magnus. If you were in my shoes and wanted more blood, which way would you go? Thanks in advance!
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast 5 лет назад
Tough call as both would yield about the same blood trails in my opinion. However I think you would get better penetration with the wide 2 blade. Pass thrus are important to me. When the arrow passes completely through the animals dont know what happen and remain pretty calm or calm down within 20 yards or so and I watch them fall. When the arrow stays in they run hard and until they die. The wide 2 blade gives you the best of both. Good blood and good penetration. Again just my opinion, but it's the reason I shoot the heads I do.

I’ve killed deer and pigs with 4 blade magnus black hornet. Both pass through. 200 pound pig went 40 yards. Both had good blood trails. Big buck went 80 yards but I hit both shoulders high. Also I had two pass through shots with 150 grain two blade single bevel bh but with no blood trail, both deer went 20 yards fell dead.

I think though if that arrow stays in do more damage but yeah pass thru is good to like ya said they run off few yards and stop look around like what was that
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast 4 года назад
Yep about even either way. Stays in does more damage but less blood trail and freaked out deer. Pass thru more blood from exit hole but that hole can also plug up from innards. I prefer the pass theu but will take it either way.

Hey Jason, thanks for the info. Something I have been wondering, I fletch my own arrows and have used 4 vanes this season. My question is I have a 3 blade broadhead...been wondering if I should go with 3 vanes so I can align my vanes to my broadhead. Do you see that as important or am I just thinking too much? Thanks so much. Steve.
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast 5 лет назад
Great question. Short answer it doesnt matter at all. Long version is you will definitely get better control on the rear with 4 fletch than with 3. Aligning the vanes with the blades doesnt matter as the air is disrupted by the blades so off setting the vanes they will probably catch more air than directly behind the blades. Atleast that's how I'd figure it. My best advise is make sure the arrows are tuned right by bareshafting. Then your fetching has a very easy job. I do believe the best thing you can do for arrow stability is be heavy up front with head weight. More head weight you have less fetching has to do.
@bryanmitchell3810
@bryanmitchell3810 5 лет назад
Better question is broadhead and fletch configuration. Do you align the broadhead with the fletching or does it not make a difference in arrow flight.
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast 5 лет назад
I never have or worries about aligning the blades to the feathers. I personally would cant see how on a spinning arrow it would matter as the wind cut by the blades is already disrupted and out of alignment before the fetching gets to that wind.

Simply the best use Muzzy 100 grain fixed blades broadheads in water you shoot crossbow reeves compound it doesn’t matter. Truth is Muzzy’s fixed blades are the best most durable reliable broadheads on the market. Save your self money plus you’ll have the sharpest broadheads on the planet. Everything else is a complete sales pitch to get you to perches more expensive overrated broadheads that might not even work. Best to keep it simple

Hi Jason, Last question for the day .Just called Lancaster...They recommend Magnus Stinger 100,125,150 grain BH. They have a brass 50-75 brass insert 8/32..Can you recommend an adapter to go inbetween the BH and insert ? TU AGAIN
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast 5 лет назад
The magnus stinger is already a screw in head so you can not add a steel adapter. To do that you need to look at traditional glue on broadheads then get the adapter. But a do the math on the components. A 150 grain stinger on a 100 grain brass insert is 250 grains up front. That pretty impressive on a xbow bolt.

Although I never used it, I wish the Toxic Broadhead were removed from the market because it doesn't slice cleanly as broadheads do, but cuts plugs of tissue. If a bad hit occurs the wound will never heal, but invites bacteria to fester the wound. What is your opinion?
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast 5 лет назад
My opinion is exactly same as yours. That's one of the reasons I shoot a 2 blade. Fast healing if a non lethal hit and do thier job perfectly if hit right.

Your opinion on sharpening a zwickey razor sharp than turning your file backwards and running against the edge to put a serrated edge on. Just curious.
@tradbowpodcast
@tradbowpodcast 3 года назад
I never got good at doing that. I prefer to use a file to set the bevel and make a bur on each side. Then lightly use a ceramic rod just a few times to smooth it out then i strop the crap out of it.
