Many people question what morph top pair their ball python with. There are a few variables to consider when planning a breeding season and we're going to go over them along with some basic genetics from one of my pairings as an example. This video will get you on the path to figuring out what goes best with your snake.

I love when you mention that normals are not all a single gene! It’s how you get such amazing variation among “normals” and why I still consider them very unique and beautiful. My girl has gorgeous gold alien heads on a brown background with lots of blushing up the sides, but I’ve seen plenty that have brown alien heads on a black background with almost no blushing, and everything in between. Normals are still very cool in my book.

great video! ive been looking for a video of like a breeding progression i guess you could call it? like what each generation of snake looks like in a project as they work toward their goal but i havent been able to find one

If you wanted to explain what genetics the parents would throw, i thought you'll end up showing us a punnet square, but your example with the colored chromosomes and the genes on little stick notes was really descriptive and easy to follow, thank you for that! Im into genetics, but even for beginners i consider this quite helpful. I have a female enchi-pastel-fire-spider i would pair up in some years with a banana-calico (maybe pastel).

Thanks! You’re great at explaining things. And you are funny. I might breed my balls. I have a pastel. My boy is just normal. But my hubby is taking me to a reptile place today. Maybe I will find a neat morph male. Dunno if they sell well. I see lots of people selling balls and it seems like they don’t move very fast. Normal balls disappear. I think it’s because they are more affordable for a lot of people. The pieds and more expensive ones don’t seem to go quickly. But I am only doing research for now. I don’t want to fail if I try this.

Thanks for the video. So funny, I watch it and think yeah this is so simple and then I go searching for my favorite morphI(s) and that’s when I start....ooo I like that one, and that one, and oh that one is super cool. And I’m like, Okay I gotta focus on what I could pair with what I already have. Then it’s like I could do this or that or this. Then I go looking and I find what I thought I wanted and $$$$$$ (oops, I don’t have that kind of dough). Back to the drawing board I go. I’m just being silly but... Keep up the great content :)

Can I house two females together? Also for the suggestion box, I'd like to see some deep dives on bio active setups. I saw were you said bacteria in the substrate or hide could have possibly caused the R.I.

Hey TCoop! Best not to house ball pythons together. They are not social animals. They would most likely end up "cuddling" together, but that's only because they're thermoregulating simultaneously and actually competing with each other for the prime spot in the viv. It puts them in a pretty stressful situation. Good idea for the bioactive deep dive. I've been meaning to do another bioactive video so that one will be on the list :-)

Hi bob! So I tried looking onto morph market for a certain gene and they are enchi ,pastel and calico The mom is a pastel pied and the bad is a enchi and calico So my question is how or if there is a different site to see if I can check these combos ?

Make sure you're using their search tool correctly. Those morphs are all very common so you'll find lots of those combos on morph market

Hi Catarina, I do not, sorry. There are probably a bunch of adults on MM right now though. Just make sure the seller has a good reputation and you should be pretty safe buying from someone on there :-)

So I do have a female Spider. I haven't planned on breeding her, but say on the off chance I do, is there any gene that will be more beneficial to help out the genetics for the Spider? She doesn't show any wobble or any other defects associated with that gene - just to throw that out there.

No, any offspring she has with the spider gene will have some degree of wobble and it's sort of random how much they're effected by it
