I have a vintage pair of iron age boots that I'm going to do this for. They've never really been broken in.

Less than two days of wear and mine feel perfect. Very little break in. Competitor’s boots took about a week and a half of wear to fully break in.

My boots are like the perfect size. They fit amazingly. But I still get a little ankle bite in em no matter what lacing method I do unless I just keep em real loose.
@jensrb50

Oil the biting area and massage/stretch it with a hammer or broom handle

Why do you're boots require little break in compared to nick's? Is your leather softer?

@robertphillips93
@robertphillips93 3 года назад
Not angry at all . . . a hammer with a convex face can be used in conjunction with a special anvil (or other hard tool) to flatten a stiff seam or other hot spot and make the break-in process go better. But be careful if you already oiled the boots -- fibers and seams on lower quality leathers can be so loose that they are actually prone to damage by this procedure.

How long after you oil can you wear them?
@jkbootsusa
@jkbootsusa 2 года назад
It takes approximately 20 minutes for the oil to seep in, but just feel it. In more humid climates it will take longer
@jkbootsusa
@jkbootsusa 2 года назад
Depends. Usually the oil soaks in for about an 1hr

Yes but they are gonna break down faster since the leather doesn’t have the time to breath and dry properly! Not recommended.

@@eknox4748 That's what a boot dryer is for, and that's what boots are made for, leather ALWAYS has time to breathe, it's leather.

I wear boots 7 days a week up to 16 hours a day. Never had a problem in dry Nebraska but they do get a rest if they get wet. I also grease them as regularly as required. The boot tells me when they need more obenaufs

If they dont need much break in.. I don't want them. Don't try to market these as something they're not. TELL people they are thick, stiff, durable.. but dont go on a car salesman pitch.

Neatsfoot oil plus snoseal all the way
@sanityfade
@sanityfade 3 года назад
Neither is very good for leather. I use snow seal on my winter pair but it has silicon in it which plugs the pores on leather. Neatsfoot and mink oil make leather breakdown faster than beeswax. That's why I only use obenaufs on my good boots. Best boot grease out there. Plus it smells good.
