As a lightweight I use 16 oz for sparring and bag, and 10 oz for official fights. 16oz is really good to build up strength and speed. I totally recommend practicing with them
@@El_Alacrann I personally don't recommend jumping to a 24oz right away. You might get injured. Go for the 16oz for the first 3 months, then when you change to the 24oz.
I use 10 oz currently. But the 16 for training makes more sense.I carry 2 pair of 10oz in the cargo space of my car.On rare occasion I have co-worker confrontations on the construction job site.I intervene and supply them with gloves for after work hours to settle their disputes in a safer environment lol.
10oz for fights, pad work, heavy bag. 16oz for sparring and heavy bag work. I alternate between the two for heavy bag work 16oz for smashing the bag hard and 10oz for building up my hand speed.
@@_alessandro_6792 that’s probably from improper technique and not enough wrist support from the hand wraps. I had the same problem when I first started
Personally I use 12 I think 16s can be great too for building up endurance the 12s are just closer to 8-10 what you would fight with. For technique I usually go only hand wraps and a lighter/softer heavy bag
I constantly weigh at a round 66-68 kg and the optimal and most comfortable size for me for just about any purpose is 14oz. I’ve never competed though so I’m guessing I might be asked to put on a pair of 12s in a competitive situation.
That’s good bro you gave good background. I would say use 14 oz. You wanna be using good form so you can also use 12 or 10. The best advice I would give its use whatever you can keep on for awhile while have good form because you don’t want to practice sluggish bad form.
I fluctuate in weight between 178-190 at 5’9. I’m thinking about 14 oz for mitt/partner drills.. and 16oz for bag work. Think that’s ideal, or should I use 16 oz gloves for everything?
The heaviest glove is the best for faster punch’s if your in a match and you have been using heavy glove but you your using light gloves now in the match your punch’s are going to be quick
10oz is my go to, gives you the best feel and response. People saying 16s for building endurance etc... 16s will teach bad habits and form if you dont already have form nailed down. Im not talking about everyone, but there is alot of bag slappers who always train in 16s 😂 Strength and conditioning plus sparring in 16s will take care of endurance and speed. We are talking about oz's not kilos on your hands after all 😂😂 16s ain't building endurance. 12s are a good compromise, 14s serve no purpose. My personal opinion.
I alternate my gloves depending on what I want to work on. But for sparring always 16, bag work I change it up from fight gloves up to 16oz gloves just depends on what I want to use, I certainly do like hitting the bag with smaller gloves though 8oz 10oz. Especially with bag mitts response is so good and perfect to condition your knuckles. I have all sizes except 12 oz lol. Bag mitts 8oz, 10oz, 14oz and 16oz.
I use 10oz gloves because that’s what the thrift store happened to have when I walked through 😅. I don’t box though, just bag work cause running sucks and swimming’s expensive
Smaller gloves helps with accuracy on mitts, helps condition the hands, you get much more feedback on your punches and because you are using smaller gloves you are more concerned about making sure your punches have proper placement and form so you don’t hurt yourself. Just like a fight
I know that gloves can make you think you are protected and that allows you to hit harder making you more likely to be injured when punching. My question is, is there a correlation between glove weight and injuries? The thought here is that boxers usually end up with more hand injuries than MMA fighter, which drops even further in bare-knuckle due to the idea that you can hit harder because you won't hurt yourself as much with more padding. I would assume that the lightest with the least padding for your hand would be the most damaging but then you hit harder if you have more padding which means the heaviest should be at greater odds of injuries. P.S. I hope you all have a fantastic day and stay safe.
@@karanlal4112 these studies were performed on professionals, people who know to wrap their hands. Also bare-knuckle boxers are not allowed to wrap their knuckles which is the main place of contact and injury in their sport.
No lie I got a 16 oz I use for sparring/heavy bag and a 12 oz I use for heavy bag work. I tell all new people to start with 16 oz so they have most protection and have one all around pair to start with
I practice technique with 10oz bag gloves, spar with 16oz. Would probably get 14's for home heavy bag tho, just to give a break to the hands and condition shoulders
I’ve started boxing for 6 months now, I usually use 14 oz thought sometimes I use 8-10 oz to help me get used to throwing punching without gloves, any recommendations?? Would help! ❤
honestly sounds like your doing pretty good so far I just dont know how much you weigh, if your above 170 then consider using 16 oz sometimes but personally 14 oz are my favs cause its the perfect in between of protection and speed so if you can keep sharp technique with 14s keep it up!
I find 12oz pretty good for me, im 115lbs (52kg) and id say i strike pretty hard that my fists become brittle but 12oz does the job, plenty of padding to absorb the impacts but its still abit heavy, maybe i should try 8oz or 10oz gloves, what do you guys think? Or just strengthen body more, especially my shoulders? Or both?
You need all sizes, you should have a pair of light gloves , a pair for sparring…. I collect gloves and just switch out , keeps it fun, fun is good, plus look good, feel good, perform better! 8, 10-12s for technique (mitt work) 14-16 when you have sore hands or doing partner work drills, sparring …. When you train with really heavy gloves you don’t become fast, you just develop bad habits like dropping the hand after a jab, or falling over….. when you have heavy gloves and you lunch slow, it can be discouraging and make you not want to come back to work out, your work out gear should inspire you to work out! You should look 👀 at your gloves and shoes and wraps and can’t wait to get them on for the next day of schooling!
