"What software do I need to start treating Medicare beneficiaries under part B?"
1.) Some form of a documentation system. It may be paper, electronic medical record GSuites, etc.
2.) A patient accounting software to generate claims, track payments, and perform basic patient accounting functions.
3.) A clearinghouse to package your claims and send them to the insurance payer.

Hi Tony, to make sure I got this correctly. EMR->Pt accounting/claim generation -> clearinghouse/claim acceptance/sending to appropriate payers/receive payments and send em back to Pt accounting. Correct? Also, what part of this process does the biller do? Thanks!

Hi Tony, apparently our facility has big problem with submitting claims electronically to Palmetto for MC secondary, we tried to do it VIA fax, but nothing happened, what are we doing wrong…

This is kind of a nightmare. I have struggled as well. Palmetto has an ePortal. I have had success using the ePortal for Medicare as a secondary when submitting claims. Try to get a representative on the phone and don't let them go until you figure it out.

On the application for Med B they ask about the billing agent. Would I enter something like Office Ally ? If I use OA I DO submit an EDI application? Is there a reason NOt to submit claims through the Ability or MREP platforms other than I am doing it myself? Thanks. 'Dis tedious

A billing agency is a private company you pay to do your billing. It is not a clearinghouse like Office Ally. If you are not paying a biller then leave that section blank.
