Director Matt Reeves reinvented Gotham's caped crusader with The Batman, embracing the film noir movement and crafting a Batman with a darker past. The thematic truth that runs through the heart of the film regards The Riddler's goal of bringing Gotham's secrets out of the shadows and into the light. As the film unfolds, Batman follows a similar journey; rejecting his ethos of fear and vengeance and embracing hope and justice, coming out of the shadows, and into the light.

This is my favorite modern Batman movie. The story of a Batman learning to embrace his humanity and compassion is the best version of Batman I could hope for

Stellar work, m8! I feel like some people find the final act of the movie a bit jarring but it's all been a part of the movie from the beginning. People get a little too caught up in wanting Batman to say "I'm vengeance" to see what the Riddler goon's recitation of that line really means to Bruce/Batman.

Thanks, appreciate it. Truth be told when I first watched the film I did find Batman's new ethos at the end unexpected, however once I took a step back and examined the film it made perfect sense

@@ArcherGreen Me, too. I think the sudden drop of what Riddler's plan was leading up to (including the appearance of a gang of Riddlers) kind of threw us all off. Whilst the movie does cut to that chatroom a little, I think that aspect of the story could have been foreshadowed a little more. It was on the second watch after having time to think about the final act a little more that I really got to noticing Bruce's/Bat's intended transitional journey throughout the movie.

My thoughts exactly, while I very much enjoyed it overall, the third act let’s it down a little. The motivations of Batman / Riddler should have been a more clear at this point imo.
