I think it's pretty clear at this point, the remake team is on a higher level than the mainline team.. when you look at the attention to detail that they prioritize, versus what they prioritize with village.. when you look at the very careful line that they're walking in modernizing the controls and agency, kind of dipping their toes into a free mechanical game, but slowly merging that with modern QuickTime, and fully contextualized navigation.. but more importantly, making it feel good to play.. they seem to take a snapshot of what the general vibe of The source material plays like, and then attempts to translate it. But most importantly in the biggest difference I think between the two teams is anywhere they can go ham, they do.. The re2 remake, you didn't have a lot you could work with.. you still had to make a corridor creeper where the mechanics were difficult enough to manipulate in order to add that price tag on all of the activities.. but without a fixed camera, and with a enhanced ability to manipulate your character precisely, they had to straddle the line of making movement and combat encounters take more effort artificially, while at the same time not being overly frustrating in doing just that.. but, and it saddens me that this is a thing they have to contend with.. rather than expanding the dynamic or changing it outright.. re2 was a game based around and extremely limited gameplay loop.. and unfortunately you can't go further than that it seems in the remake department. With re4, sure I can't jump over a pile of socks.. but I can dive out of every window.. or at least the ones that have contextual prompts.. just like the original game, you have a series of events based on positioning and hotspot shooting, and the more you succeed or engage with that, the more opportunity for contextual rewards... But... and this is where they're very good, and getting to my whole point with this whole thing, the presentation of that.. every opportunity that they seem to have to try to fill in the gaps of the immersion factor.. the re2 shooting, yeah it was miserable to just shoot one zombie into submission.. the amount of effort by comparison to anything with that kind of control scheme, even games with those limitations in mind, like it's it's not fixed camera tank control but it certainly is a lot more effort then such a simple thing even with the same basic mechanical interface.. and yet... That guy's head caves in.. every piece of animation, detail in the act itself.. it fills in The uncanny valley as to why can't I do basic movement, and that works in that is so important... The mainline team, not only do they not have the restriction of adapting gameplay.. but they have the framework sent out by their peers at Capcom, and yet when you look at the basic mechanical drive of re7.. everything about its limitations feels artificial, and especially by comparison to re6 where they just had none, and if only they had made a game around that.. that would have been quite a game LOL, should have would have could have... But at least it had some basic level of immersion, if you shot things, they'd be shot.. there was some very quick time extra step contextual attention to detail that was good enough to pass, albeit a bit frustrating, to everybody that didn't play it in VR I'm assuming in that Ethan can't even peek around a corner... But when you got to village.. what was the priority there, they had the same basic gameplay function for the shooting.. which was bad.. they didn't add any new mechanical capability to enhance that either, and they spent more time detailing the environment than actually making it seem like you existed in the environment.. Dare I say it we had a mainline resident evil game for the first time that didn't have Gore in it LOL outside of cutscenes.. in fact you didn't even make a Mark when you shot anything, and then the bodies would disappear almost in shame.. it's in first person, where somehow your hands are magically stuck inside your shoulders up until the cutscene parts where your hand suddenly you know do things.. and they put a fixation on shooting but, there's literally no love in any of it.. they might as well have had health bars in village, at least that would have had some sort of damage indicator since we weren't going to get any Gore... But they made an effort to have a magazine swap that pocketed the spare.. they made sure to model every dimple on the giant lady... They make sure to have Ray tracing and whatnot... it's just every activity that you participated in that felt like a placeholder. That all comes down to attention to detail really, and the remake team really does seem to have it.. the mainline team seems to not really care, rather than focusing on their cinematic presentation.. which was the problem that made six not a game for its gameplay.. which is is really it's quite the shame when you think about it, sure I guess it's worse to have bad gameplay and bad game.. but to have really good gameplay and not be able to use it the way you should is one of those tragedies when you think about it.. I stop playing re seven about an hour in, I would have gone back to it if life events hadn't distracted.. but by the time I did, the severe lack of mechanical functionality just made me sit there and like okay can I mod leaning in maybe? Can I can I mod basic awareness so it feels like I'm actually playing the character.. the answer might be yes to all that but I've only found an answer to about half of it unfortunately.. but I was okay with the roller coaster ride, it had good atmosphere and a good roller coaster and I don't mind that.. I just want to feel like I'm in the roller coaster. Re8 felt like an utter joke.. like genuinely on almost every level of gameplay design outside of maybe the art direction... What has me kind of excited, even though I genuinely don't get my hopes up anymore and anything in gaming.. is that the remake team would get a chance to finally remake the two following games in the series.. because the very things that the team seem to fail to hit, well wildly succeeding at others.. the remake team seems to be really good at doing.. and as the initial limitations mechanically strip away in the Target game vibe design that they have to adhere to everything kind of clicks into place it seems.. Or at least that is the perspective that I want to take.. I'm not going to lie, not being able to jump over a pile of socks is a little frustrating when I can do contextual backflips.. and all of those weird little immersive Sim elements that they leaned into, that's what makes me feel like the good ending might happen.. but... people don't really seem to care about being able to do cool things they just want to watch a movie pretty much with extra steps which is ironic given how people attack quick time events and yet.. I mean look at Callisto protocol.. it's literally a quick Time game, with a lot less extra steps than even Ubisoft would afford you.. like at least they give you a dance dance revolution for the combat now in the assassin's Creed games.. a parkour series that took away the jump button by the third entry... But you know what, I feel like I should be able to have a little bit of hope for something.. but one thing that does bother me a little bit is everybody complaining about Capcom making these remakes, wanting a mainline game.. but there's absolutely nothing original or special about those mainline games.. so what's the point?

The intro with the zombie I have seen some complaints but its It's because we are supposed to think they are some what zombie like but we naturally are thinking more how does this tie into resi 2 rather than where are the zombies it'd for veterans and new fans who some how didn't know resi 4 zombies aren't zombies which to be fair litterally yesterday a last of us fan tried to bad mouth re4 when I said re4 had better gameplay but tlou has a better story and he responded with stuff that is clearly second hand knowlege and said the zombie strength in re games make no sense and they don't go down on head shots. Then mentioned leon punching enemies somthing he cant do. Which I promptly said you clearly have second hand knowlege because your description of the enemies stay down when they go down. And that leon never throws a punch in the game. I would wager most people qre aware resi 4 isn't resi 1,2,3, and code V.

@CFU it's also on the outskirts of the village... Krauser was the one that kidnapped Ashley, so why did he leave traces of evidence behind? He is special forces.... It'd be nice if that was written as to have Krauser lore in agents like Leon to eventually rescue Ashley. (Because Krauser wanted the plaga for Wesker - retconned out of remake) He'd want to cause chaos within the Los Illuminatos.

This video is a great critique of the game. It really approaches the game fairly. Provides ideas that would have maybe worked better. The main reason I've been so critical of the game is all these people giving it 10/10 and saying absolutely nothing bad about it. Though there are literally dozens of weird changes in this remake that rubbed me the wrong way. Ranging from curiosity to me being outright disappointed by the direction change. There are a few changes in particular I would have to knock this game down a notch for. I could never give it a 10/10 for many reasons, like locking the laser sight behind a spinel wall (meaning you need to find 10 spinels to unlock it) and it's only adaptable to the default pistol and the punisher. I mean Capcom might as well kick me in the nuts. I would have preferred that.

Well the entire parry system if you play professional they take the entire generosity away to perfect parrying. The bloom on most weapons in my opinion fits great because there is a added effect of increase chances now to critical hits or stagger. Honestly i like the way they made saddler is as a antagonists the way they changed his character to being more cult/religous and evil. Compared to his original character being the big baddy. I give the game 9/10 my big issue is Ashley AI she sits when she gets crowded the mendez chase is horrible.

I still think hardcore and up should have the parry limitation. That or maybe take the Sekiro approach where you can just hold the parry button as essentially a guard that takes more durability or try to time a perfect parry. The Mendez chase is a little rough haha.

I've played both the original and the remake and enjoyed both for various reasons. My biggest issue with the game is the pedestal that fans and critics have put it on. I don't think it's the greatest game in the world nor do I think it's the best game in the series. I think Code Veronica is a better game. Honestly I enjoyed the Dead Space remake way more than RE4 remake. I did enjoy RE4 and will eat my words for being so negative towards the game because it was always used as an excuse to bash the older games, which didn't sit well with me. Honestly I kinda prefer the original RE4 because of its charm and even graphics design at the time. Who cares if it doesn't look real or not, I think game designers problem these days is their attempt at making anything look photo realistic instead of making it appealing instead.

The fact that an og game 18 years ago is still better among people still over a remake that was “suppose to be” a better game to the original shows you that remake is no where near as good as the og. Its a separate game that should be looked at differently than the og. I played the remake so ik what i mean. Its the same like all the other remakes. Generally agree with the consensus of the game being fantastic, but respectfully disagree on a number of points. I will be tackling just my biggest one. While I agree with the original game being revolutionary enough to hold its own candle in the present time period, that in itself dilutes the criticism of Resident Evil 4 Remake playing it very safe. Perhaps it's a difference in perspective of the same coin, but in my analogy, Resident Evil 4 Remake's move to emphasize MOSTLY everything the original was loved for, was a much better decision than aiming to revolutionize and go wild with that intent. The Remake did not even intend to revolutionize to begin with. Resident Evil 4 OG was one of the games which introduced mechanics and game design that pushed the gaming industry's choices today. It's to the extent that if a remake were to be made (which it did), there has to be enough changes for it to be substantial. That's a problem, as RE4 itself is a game that did not need a remake because of how well it holds today. Many games have already introduced mechanics such as parrying, sneaking, player choice, which have all been included in the remake, but don't conflict with its identity. What other mechanics could they have incorporated into this game in your opinion? Because it'd be likely up for debate on whether it would fit with RE4 without deviating from its identity. We should also note the existence of the intricately built RE4 HD project which fixed the aging graphics of the game while keeping its art style, which emphasizes my point further. That being said, the point of RE4 Remake not being as revolutionary as the original is more of a personal observation than a valid, realistic criticism.

I think this game was amazing man. Dare to say a masterpiece even. Loved it so much and my favorite remake OAT. I understand your criticisms man, and even agree with some of them. I thought this game needed a remake in the sense of modernizing it for the newer fans, including me even though I played the original. I really wanted CV first though and still do before re5. I thought the knife system was amazing and balanced pretty decently with the breakable. But yeah wish they automated you to use your boot or other knives before your combat/primal/fighting one. I thought Ashley was better in this remake tbh but maybe I’m just forgetting how the original was since it’s been a while. I had no problem in the remake. Side quests were amazing and the level designs mostly were great! Quests did feel repetitive ofc. Omg the shooting range was a W! The console issues (graphical and such) are very distracting. On PS4 when I speed through parts of the game, enemies will spawn in my face. This happens multiple times on each playthrough, actually on almost every enemy heavy section there will be a shameless enemy insta spawn. This game is not cheap, I won't call it soulless or such, but the lack of care on certain areas is obvious.

The parry is generous because your knife can break and the gamr is pretty chaotic re4r pro is perfect parry only and its kind of shows how picky yhe perfect parry is You said it wasn't balanced and I said. No it is enemies are more aggressive Ashley in the remake if I ha e one complaint it's her absalute dog s**t path finding. A couple times she walks in the most un optimal directions. It's not a massive issue because most enemies target leon and the game gives you an instant knife kill plus she is ducking in combat meaning even if she walks infront of you for no reason most of the time she isn't in danger but there is a fee instances I was like ashley wtf. Like my first time playing with the Mendez encounter. Beleive it or not enemi3s don't attack ashley whenever she gets hit its an enemy failing to hit leon so the 2 hit isn't a big issue because she isn't targeted by enemies in the same way as leon enemies only aim to pick ashley up. People mainly die because of ashley because they imidiatly rush over when she is knocked over even though most enemies are after leon and the game makes taking out the enemy that does pick ashley uo easy. But that doesn't mean she isn't without issues her path finding is confusing like a few times she got infeont of me it wasn't constant but a couple times I hit ashley on accident even though it's her own dang fault. She like the og is usually your fault but her path finding needs work in the the remake You also talked about luis and leon suddenly liking each other. No litterally minutes before luis dies leon says "how about you open fire instead of your mouth" Luis was barely a charater in og 4 he literally has 15 lines in the remake he is a lot more fleshed out leon only comes to understand luis. Ashley and leon don't suddenly like eachother its not a long conversation but again she doesn't really talk to leon that much the original they talked more in the remake she is litterally more of a charater. Luis wasn't neutered he was if anything fleshed out its nit even in just the journals. In almost every scene he has we actually learn somthing new and is doing somthing. First we learn how he treats danger when being untied, then we learn he keeps secrets and that he was former umbrella, then in the house we see he is willing to help, then we learn about vaguely through him about plaga and how he got infected but saved himself, then we see he is working for another organization so we then know it's what he does he puts trust into shady people and we know why he worked for umbrella and later Illuminados and wesker, then we learn it's reinforced that he is shady, then we have an qvtion section which builds are trust but also how he sees this as an adventure, then he dumps out why he is helping out leon, he dies but gives enough information, you get a key and it stays with you till the end letting you know it wasn't for nothing. In the og he could be removed like what does he do really that couldn't be done by ada. Exactly nothing.
@somedorkydude6483
@somedorkydude6483 10 месяцев назад
The flirting thing I kind of agree. To me it makes sense why. Leon and Ada's relationship never made sense. Like ok in 2 I kind of get it but if a chick is constantly disappearing you see her inconsistently and plus she is a selling viruses that is what we call in the buisness unsustainable. Hunigan made sense it's more professional for leon especially more in line with the fact that leon is an agent to protect sherry Birkin. While I don't care about resi relationships I do side with people not liking how charaters are less flirtatious because hunnigan isn't much of a charater in re4r. And adas new charater is bland seperate ways helps but she is bland why can't capcom just say where are you going stay here. I get dc Douglas (even though dbd wesker wasn't Doug and he was perfect). Nick captures a 27 year old leon Lilly doesn't capture a 30 year old Ada. I didn't want to spam comments so that's why I put this here. I think it's done not for face book reasons but because of more practical reasons. Leon is supposed to be a professional and it treats leon like he is the same person in the story as the gameplay so leon so the skirt thing makes sense. The luis part makes sense since luis has more than exactly 15 lines he is an actual charater not a funny man Tangents aside I'll stop spamming

Still a bit confused as to the shade given to Village's intro. It was very atmospheric, and the Sun gradually rising during it actually made plenty of sense given the rough idea of Ethan being kidnapped during dinner with "Mia" followed by the truck he was in getting run off the road. The survival portion hit just fine, the problem that many people had with it is they tried to play it as if it were RE 4. It was essentially an inversion. You weren't playing as some secret agent survivor of Raccoon City. You were playing as an IT nerd who barely made it through the Dulvey incident. It wasn't about getting on the move and ballerina-kicking villagers until they are drawn away so you can look for the US President's daughter, it was about "What the **** is this with werewolf-looking enemies swarming me? I need to hunker down and hold them off, then find a way to get past them to find my daughter." It's just frustrating to hear this comparison wrongly made and applied in this apples and oranges manner. Village wasn't trying to "hit" like RE 4. Sure, it made callbacks to it but it was its own distinct entry in the series, and wasn't meant to be a stand-in nor to emulate the same beats of the older title. It went its own way despite having similarities, not unlike RE 7 being distinct from RE 1 despite some similarities there, too. The RE 4 village intro is about temporarily blocking off pursuers, running and gunning, and frenetically fighting off a town of people trying to kill you. Village's intro is about being dumped into the middle of nowhere and finding a place to hold out for as long as possible against shaggy, cannibalistic creatures. Not being able to kite them around a town square isn't a negative, it creates and uses tension in a different way. If you tried running around outside only get smacked with hatchets and shot full of arrows from the rooftops, it's because you were playing the wrong game. Village was fine, and so was its intro. For some reason, people just want to malign it because it didn't do something that it wasn't even trying to, to begin with.

I'm not a fan of how the modern western liberal writer that they hired to work on this turned leon and luis into weak broken men. For some reason western writers feel like men need to be deconstructed and strong men are somehow toxic. They should have just stuck to japanese writers that still know how to create interesting leading males.

Wasn't the game made in Japan, by japanese writers? what are you talking about
@Chaso-1124

@edenorsomething7630 No, it was outsourced to western writers. It really shows just with a quick glance of the original games and the remakes side by side. Ever since re7 the writing has been handled by western writers and anyone familiar with the series can tell right away

the remake is just an amazing remix. why should it be revolutionary? it is a REMAKE! had they completely switched it up, they would risk losing money, duh. also, it is not that easy to be revolutionary. the original was not expected to be so successful, some of the devs even thought it would fail and that the mechanics were lame.

Disagree with a lot of your points and I’m one of those who played the original a lot but I like the remake a lot better. It’s got a much more horror tone and feel than the original. There definitely is somethings with the story and dialogue that I think the original did better but for the most part I like the more serious tone, over the cheesyness of the original.. the accuracy issue you mentioned doesn’t make the game worse I think it makes it much more realistic. In real life even expert firearms handlers would not be stacking shots on top of each other, as someone who owns and shoots a variety of firearms myself, the realism is appreciated and adds to the sometimes frantic combat. But I understand there are some people who will always choose the original over the remake and that’s fine you still have that game to play.

You need to ask yourself why you think sexual harassment is the same as flirting
@CFU
@CFU Год назад
I think there is some SH and some flirting. Leon to Hunnigan (coworkers) and Ashely to Leon (boss) is SH IMO. Ada telling Leon "need a ride handsome" is flirty. Either way its fine the lines were cut I just wish there was another aspect of the character's personalities introduced to bounce off of.

It's a 20 year old game , who cares if they put the secret out early. With your whining about sexual harassment that's why they change the characters and i repeat its a 20 year old game , with some upgrades

@Cohesive Friendship Unit you were wrong about the Ashley part, she gets alot more character build up in the remake. She actually talks alot more and interacts with leon alot more too idk where your take on this cane from.

@@metatronblack merely mentioning sexual harassment doesn't equal whining about it, do you regard someone reporting sexual harassment as whining?
