More people need to learn about this stuff. Rabies is no joke. Once symptoms show after being bitten, you’re dead. It has a nearly 100% mortality rate.
@@Pretentiouslizard unfortunately, it can be anything from 1 week to an entire year. The average is 2-3 months in most people, and like you said, once symptoms appear, it’s over. What people, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, need to be aware of is that when an animal is “acting funny”, there’s a strong chance that it has rabies. Prior to the onset of symptoms, it’s very treatable.
I work as a nurse at a vet clinic. I can confirm how shitting scary a rabies animal can actually be. Especially if it's a big dog and it tries to attack you.
The effects can actually be different even in the same species. Yes, some will act extremely aggressive in the way that most are portrayed, however, sometimes they just act generally confused. And others act as if they’re tamed pets. The symptoms of rabies can vary drastically, which is why it’s suggested that you don’t interact with any wild animals, no matter how sweet they may seem.

@Unus eef Annus mark Though it may have had rabies, healthy raccoons will actually prey on kittens, rabbits, and farm birds. They also commonly get into scraps with adult cats over cat food left outdoors, however they typically will only be able to prey upon their kittens.
I know what you are thinking about but that wasn't rabies that was an entirely fictional disease and no disease is going to make an animal be able to wade through lava for a short amount of time. Plus humans and dinosaurs didn't exist at the same time

It’s always so depressing seeing animals with rabies… because you know that animal will almost definitely die. It literally slowly kills them and takes over their body. Rabies is not a joke.
Also please remember that if you see an deer staggering like it’s drunk, there’s two option and the outcome is the same. 1. It has rabies, it will die and if you touch it, so will you. 2. It’s got some kind of brain injury or neurological problem, either way, it will be dead soon, and if you get too close, it will kill you with its antlers.
@@blehhblehhhh I think you are onto something. Animals with rabies sometimes have a hard time closing their mouth and when you look at an enderman they stare back with their mouth open. Maybe Mona get took inspiration from rabid animal 🤔
My sister was attacked by one of our cats who somehow got rabies. Came running out from under the couch, ran into the wall, then hissed as he rolled across the floor, and chased my sister down against the front door when she closed it. I, had to tear our cat off my sister, and threw him in one of our rooms… We had to put him to sleep…she’s okay, this was years ago now. But it’s his face, the way it’s jaw was almost dislocated. The coyote reminded me of that moment.
This is long so if you don’t want to read a lot don’t start reading this. I was attacked by our cat who (at the time) recently had kittens and my dog ran over to the room they were in and my cat got really scared for her kittens. She ran over to my dog and was just circling him and didn’t actually do anything while my dog was backing up like he was saying sorry or something I was laughing with my mom.(it seems mean to be laughing but if you were there you would realize it’s wasn’t.) She turned around and ran straight at me since I was holding a kitten and started cutting up my legs and then ran back to my dog and cut him up too then back to me and this time she bit me twice. She went and attacked my dog again but when she came back my mom was quick enough to catch her so she wouldn’t do it again. During that entire thing I made sure not to drop that kitten. And my mom was pregnant and she has a really bad back but she bent down 3 times to try to get that cat way from me. She took me to the bathroom to stop my bleeding because she is a nurse she didn’t call anyone at first just making sure I was okay. Then she realized she was in pain because of her back and she started to cry and moan and she got a chair from my brother and couldn’t move her back so her movement was very limited. That is when I started to cry because I knew my brothers couldn’t do much. My mom called my grandma and when my grandma came she knew to call an ambulance because my mom could barely move. An ambulance came for each of us and I watched as they struggled to get my mom on a stretcher and they took her into the ambulance. I had people talk to me and they said we could choose to go in the ambulance or drive ourselves to the ER. We chose to drive ourselves and I was way to scared to get shots without any preparation so I chose to wait a day to get them. Everyone was telling me I shouldn’t but I’m stupid under stress. (I was getting shots because my cat was outside to get pregnant so there was a chance she had rabies) I got the shots for weeks and I was doing okay but my mom had to use a walker. She didn’t break her back or stuff like that she just hurt it bad. We are all good now me, my mom, and the baby. Also my cat tried to have the same accident happen again but my mom didn’t let that happen so we got rid of her.
My 3 year old niece was bitten by a rabbid skunk In my aunt's years, she was rushed to the hospital and kept for almost 3 months, she did not contract rabies, it's a miracle, it did infact have rabies as animal control soon after killed it and tested it
This is one of those diseases that I'm surprised there isn't a cure (not counting the preventive shots Ozzy needed after the bat had incident). I get that there's no money in curing diseases, but this disease is egregious.
@@jessiejeanne9717 There is a rabies vaccine but it’s only effective before symptoms set in. My thinking is that due to it being a disease that primarily attacks the brain, it’s not something that can just be undone and cured as it destroys connections- kinda like how you can’t really cure something like dementia
That camel looks perfectly fine. You can tell that there was something in the sand, and he was shaking its head trying to shake it off. Definitely not rabid.
Animals with rabies are very unpredictable. There was a dog that got rabies and it only got super aggressive when exposed to light. While in the dark, it’ll snarl, growl, and bark-stuff like that, while pushing itself very far into the back of the covered crate. Sad and terrifying to see at the same time.

@@Prangers2012 sure having a laugh is fine but if you are laughing at the wrong occasions like when someone died in a funeral you don't laugh at the deceased, that is just disrespectful. That's why we have the the moment of silence to respect the dead, same with someone dying in a hospital equally with animals. Just ask yourself this would you like to be laughed at when you are in pain and dying?
me and my parents were watching tv and heard squeaking outside, and my mom looked and it turned out to have been a raccoon infected with rabies rolling on the ground outside, in severe pain. We ended up having to call the police so they could put it down since there wasn't anything anyone could do to help it, which kind of ruined our night. It was pretty spooky
There's basically 2 prominent stages to rabies. There's dumb rabies, which is when the animal basically slowly becomes paralyzed and there's furious rabies, which is when they want to bite everything in sight

I’m so glad I always have a partner who is armed when we go walking around the neighborhood! My sister was just attacked by 2 huge pit bulls that the owner lost control of. She has a a belgian malinois trained to defend her (she used to work overseas, it’s weird) that saved her life. Be careful out and about. Nature doesn’t play!
It’s not the big animals w rabies that scare me. It’s the small ones you don’t know were there, with bites you never feel. Once you have symptoms your prognosis isn’t 0% but it’s damn near close iirc.
I've only had to put one animal thankfully, down because of rabies. He charged into my car and died shortly after. If something is wild, it shouldn't run to you. It should run away in fear or to keep distance. For those of you don't know. Some animals can get really aggressive when rabid. So they will charge anything. For example, in my case. I live in the country and entered the parking lot to my work. A coyote was the only animal in the lot. Normally they would come out at night to pick and scavenge the trash. But this was broad daylight. I watched it brace for a moment, then charged straight on into my car. It was foaming at the mouth and probably in it's late stages. The impact killed it immediately. I called animal control to dispose of the remains so no other animal would come up, pick at it's corpse and spread rabies further.

I’d say the most depressing one is on humans. 100% fatality rate and by the time you start showing symptoms you only have a few days left and it gets really fucking bad
