How's she goin'? New subscriber here. I came over from Dave's suggestion at RCAF Polar Express. I am in Nova Scotia so it's always nice to support a fellow 'merry'timer!!! You have put in a lot of work on your cold frames. They look awesome BTW!! I bet once you get some more experience with them you will have great success!! Thanks for posting your adventures. I'll be back for more!! Take 'er easy!!
10 minutes in and I applaud your willingness to try new things and learn as you go. After 20 years of doing the same, I can relate to your journey. Don't get discouraged by the experimenting curve & savor the insights that your successes provide. With your positive attitude (it shows) & humility people will learn from your efforts. o/ Yes, your cold frame would be rocking harder is you transplanted plugs into your cold frame. One year I made a plexiglass (4 foot appx) frame out of 2X6 scrap lumber and placed it right over the beds to get my winter garden starts going & protect them from weather. Experimented. Worked. Next experimental project... Best of wishes & keep crushing o/
Thank you for the encouragement and the comment. ❤ Your comment about trying cold frame over already existing hardy crops is very much appreciated and a must try. 👍🏼 thank you for the tip
New subscriber😊. If you put mature plants you can harvest off them. Also crowd plants a bit because you can't harvest off them like you do in summer. They grow very slow. Enjoying your video
Hello friend. Dave my good friend just tuned me onto your channel so I took a look and I have subscribed to your channel. Interesting topic and interested in the results.....CHEERS
Good Evening To Both Of You 😇😇👍👍👌👌I'm currently editing a Shout Out Video For Your OUTSTANDING channel, Hopefully I should be able to publish it around 19:00 EST 🌞🌞😇😇👍👍 Cheers 🍻🍻
Just found your channel and excited to learn from you. We are in Oklahoma which is considered a southern state, I believe. We don't have really cold weather usually but we have had 60s during the day than snow flurries a few hours later just the other day a matter of fact. Our weather is weird, it can be in the 70's one day and freezing the next, we can get all 4 seasons in one week if not the same day. 😂 We did have record breaking -17 a few years ago. Love the idea of growing during winter months. Looking forward to going back and watching your past videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. ❤. We are going to try cold frames using wood from pallets and make it more like a raised bed using a barrier that has drain holes than compost and soil on top, hoping it works and not fighting to grow so much in cold ground.
Thanks for following and watching ❤ In my cold frame experiment I have learned that putting more mature plants in the cold frame is the way to go. Either put the cold frame over your already planted existing plants or transplant into the cold frame seams to be more successful. Please update me on your cold frame experience.🌱
Yes, we save and collect water.. however, yes it does freeze in the winter. We just let it freeze because we do not use it in the winter. Come spring I do empty and clean out all my rainwater collection barrels and we save/collect mostly to water the garden. I have seen farmers post ideas on line on how to keep their water buckets for livestock from freezing, maybe that can be a direction to look for ideas. We have chickens but we have a heated plug in dish for them. Hope that helps. 😀
