So basically, "cluttercore" is just organized clutter which is still ultimately clutter?... All I know is that it looks exhausting to maintain, lol. I think love it for other people, but I wouldn't want to have to dust it all. I too really find other people's cool clutter fascinating to look at but I love that I can leave it behind when I'm done visiting.

I love that you have a self indulgent part of your house for your Lego! I'm an artist and have many parts of my house that are cluttered with things that can't be decluttered because I need them for work (reference books, paper, art supplies, etc) and I'd love to see tips from you on how to keep those areas/things manageable, intentional, and maintainable. That one bookshelf with all the things would take a whole day at least to properly clean. I take the non paper items and hand wash them in the sink to get them actually clean and then remove the books to completely dust the shelves. I have my mother with me and we have some of her collections in the dining room, and that’s how I clean and maintain all her porcelain figurines. I’m in the middle of spring cleaning the house and I’m about to tackle this part so I’m gearing up for it. I did a massive declutter of my things this week in an effort to streamline my life and simplify the cleaning. Maybe the people with the huge collections have the budget to pay for housekeepers. You’d almost need the professional help to keep it up. I found your channel really helpful to listen to while deep in the dusty trenches. I dropped off a massive amount of stuff at goodwill this morning and likely much more to go before I’m done.

Ooohhh!! It's awesome, your lego room!! That's just it! You have room, and your family loves it. It's a very intentional room. Nothing is overflowing or overwhelming there. Everything about it is still very minimal! You go girl! I myself love lego but I recently had my kids go through and pick only their favorite and I sold the rest. 4 Rubbermaid totes are TOO much when they don't play with it all anymore😰 There is ONE now. And a big castle. I HAD to keep the castle. Lol

Woah! Way too much visual clutter for me. I instantly felt stressed when you showed those pics. Even before I discovered minimalism, I would hide my clutter. I’d tuck it away in closets and drawers. Growing up with a mother who was a hoarder, I definitely didn’t want to see clutter everywhere.

I think it's fascinating to look at. I particularly like the themed/ colour coded pictures you showed. I do something similar in my house with my husbands knick- knacks (behind glass in a display cabinet/desk we inherited) rather than just have them hidden in drawers. BUT for the rest of my house I need my empty spaces. I feel this particularly when I've been out in my clients houses all day. Quite a few of them have a LOT of stuff everywhere, so not only am I coming home drained from the social interaction part of my job, but my mind is also overloaded from all the visual stimulus. Minimalism has majorly helped me with my mental health. I can't rate it enough.

This is a prime example to me of the minimalist mantra "create space and let go of what doesn't matter, to make space for what does." Sometimes what matters is still stuff!! For me its' books and D&D pieces; we have a LOT, but because we don't have a bunch of other junk we never use, it doesn't *feel* like too much. That being said, I 100% agree that if it makes more work to maintain, it wouldn't be worth it. I hate dusting! Some of it does look very homey, though.

I am a child of a hoarder and ironically enough, I clean houses for a living. Usually I figure on 15-20 minutes for dusting and vacuuming a room. I helped my mom with her living room a while back and it took me 2 days to finish her living room! Cluttercore makes me think of sorted hoarding. I do like the cohesiveness of a well-curated collection but I prefer it to be in someone else's house. ;) I like the Lego room-my son would be very jealous. :D

I think cluttercore is a good option for people who want to maintain that much stuff. Keeps it contained to one area and (hopefully) the rest of the areas/surfaces clutter free. I would say yours is a collection. I have a few collections in my house that bring me joy :)

I have a collection of small figurines that my husband bought me over the years. I finally bought a pretty small cube box, stood it on end on my dresser and now my pretty birds and other small animals have a little condo and they make me smile every day. My husband’s eclectic collections, including exciting things like rocks plus some Beatles and family memorabilia takes up a bit more space, but they live behind glass in our tv cabinet. We each dust our own collections, or not, as the spirit moves us. But, oh my, I think most of those in the video were chaotic and anxiety-inducing! I kind of doubt the rest of their homes have clutter-free surfaces. Just sayin’ 😉

Like if I had tea with the person from that place and he or she went for 1 hour talk on his/her iPhone, I would have thrown away half of the pictures and books to create some breathing room, cus my claustrophobia is kicking in just by looking at that clutter. This is the first I’ve heard of cluttercore. I may be partially just that. Minimalism for me is calming, unorganized clutter is stifling to me. In my case, I am an artist and have paintings on my walls. Arranged, and placed to let the eye rest. I never thought of them as clutter, but rather comforting and validating. The surfaces in my home are very minimal and easy to maintain. I’ve been in many homes where cluttercore is the theme, even carefully curated clutter. You’ve opened a whole new genre… carefully curated is like going to a museum with lots of things to look at…… then there is….. well you know…. Chaos!

LMAO!! let’s be honest today’s minimalism is not really minimalism, but our personal idea of what we’re willing to clean and take care of in the long run. while this would make me super anxious, my brother who is a neat freak has always had organized collections like this. he can literally walk into a room and see if one thing is turned fifteen degrees off where it should be (he’s an artist, i guess it’s all visual).

The cleaning....I just can't justify that much time to cleaning clutter. I have books but like you say it's a swipe with a duster. I am going to have to make some sort of shelf though, because i recently acquired some antique glassware. Still asking myself "why?" but I wanted it and I got it and it would be ridiculous not to display it properly. Actually considering an illuminated cabinet enclosed in glass, so no regular dusting necessary. Also embarrassed to say, I have a collection of Mattel Ken dolls packed in crates. When I was a kid I had three sisters and they talked me into asking for Ken dolls at Christmas so they didn't have to compromise on getting the girl Barbies they wanted too. At some point my inner collector took over and I kept getting them 🙄 Now I have about 100 going all the way back to the originals and some are really valuable. I'm thinking of the same sort of case for the Kens as for the glassware but down in the basement rec area, kinda like you have your Legos. I don't mind eccentric. Just SOOO don't want to look like I'm living in a "shop".

mismatched home (Instagram) has weirdly clean lines and artistic setup. It's a lot but looks purposeful. The only thing that makes me crazy is the stuff on top of the bookshelf. My eye craves a clean line below the wall art and artifacts. That top surface not being cleared tips this into clutter for me. Although...I will bet anything younger, fit people own this house. They must have a stringent cleaning routine. EDITED TO ADD: The baby's bedroom, as well as their bedroom are both artistic, serene, and colorful. I tip my hat to mismatchedhome. I'd live here, but I'd have a cleaning crew twice a week, also.

You miss the point, you don't need to dust a clutter core bookcase. I dust maybe once every 5 years. I have excellent immune system, not allergic to anything.

No. No no no no no no no. Sticking “core” on the end of clutter changes nothing. It’s like saying landfillcore. Still a landfill. If you have hobby and a display of it, that’s fine. But so many of the photos made me cringe.

Why the heck is your lego area your guilty pleasure?! Personally i think its the most interesting area of your house. I suggest you add backdrops to the wall behind it. Old calenders or dollar store ones, with scenery would bring those sets to life! Get creative and come to the dark side!!! You know you want it.

Isn't "clutter core" just another name for maximalism? Different strokes. My brain doesn't like visually sorting through all the colors and details.

Your shelving unit is boring brown right now. I picture it filled with lots of natural coloured baskets and plants. Load it up with that, bring it to life! Or modernize it and paint the damn thing!
