@traysea
@traysea Год назад
@@CeceXie what kind of mic? if it has settings on the mic itself, try seeing if there is a cardioid option - the symbol looks like a butt LOL
@CeceXie
@CeceXie Год назад
it's this one! rode.com/en/microphones/on-camera/videomicro doesn't seem to have any buttons on the mic itself. maybe i'm not supposed to use the furry when recording indoors? maybe that's the issue?
@amyluimusic
@amyluimusic Год назад
@@CeceXie it’s because you’re in a room with a lot of flat surfaces for your voice to bounce from wall to wall before being captured into your mic. I would recommend either having a designated spot in your home to treat your walls with some foam padding to absorb sound waves. You can also try with empty egg cartons to see if that helps first. The furry is to mainly eliminate wind noises so you would want to use it outdoors. Hope this helps as you make more awesome content!
@CeceXie
@CeceXie Год назад
thank you! i'm not sure i'm at the stage yet where a designated recording spot makes sense (although i would LOVE that), but i will keep this in mind for the future!

Applying for law school this coming cycle, and am interested in being a litigator. This confirms it. Pre-trial work sounds challenging, but right up my alley. Particularly discovery and doc review. Trial sounds even better!
@aalegalfocus

Most cases settle prior to trial though, so most lawyers don't get much jury trial experience unless they're prosecutors or public defenders. Good luck!

This is so interesting to hear as a lawyer in Australia. Don't know which bucket wills and estates falls into, cause we have disputes as well as "transactional" in estate planning.
@CeceXie
@CeceXie Год назад
i consider wills and estates a subject matter practice, which are horizontal and will cross several of the major three practice areas. it will make a lot more sense once i finish this series!

During the discovery request period pursuant to FRCP 26(f), some attorneys have a hard time turning over information that is deemed as work product to the other side. If it is work product prepared in anticipation of litigation, opposing counsel is not getting it.😜😜😜

great video! informative and inspiring~ I'm just wondering how does the niche of data privacy law fit into the litigation v corporate binary? I guess it belongs to the corporate side, but it also sounds like a general corporate practice
@CeceXie
@CeceXie 5 месяцев назад
it’s usually housed in litigation but has elements of both depending on the particular clients and their needs. data breach response is more like litigation but data protection agreements are more like corporate

What about talking about pointers to studying for bar prep? Any recommendations?
@CeceXie
@CeceXie Год назад
i did a bar prep course (themis) and treated it like a 12-8pm. i think the most important part of bar studying is just to not freak yourself out and remember that the goal is to pass, not excel. making your own outlines and flashcards was really helpful for me, too!
@sandrab7179
@sandrab7179 Год назад
This is really insightful as an Australian lawyer. I think one of the key differences is that we need to attempt to solve the dispute through ADR before a complaint (or as we call it, a Statement of Claim) is filed. It's a common sentiment here that Americans are extremely litigious aha, but I guess that's why you guys get paid more

Hey, you've talked about going to yale for undergrad and Harvard for law school. Was there a reason for not staying at yale? Since I'm thinking about going into big law I'm wondering if I had better chances going to Harvard instead of yale for law school.
@CeceXie
@CeceXie Год назад
yes! i talk about it in this short: ru-vid.comZMPlHwy_kZk?feature=share harvard and yale are both great for biglaw placement, and i think columbia and chicago are even better %-wise for biglaw placement

Hey Cece! Great video! Do you think it’s possible to become a successful lawyer without being fully “elite”? Although I have the potential to work extremely hard to aim for the top, I’m not sure I want to dedicate my life to my job, although I’m really passionate about law. Is it possible to become a successful lawyer without shooting for a top 14, and a top law firm, to have a more comfortable work life balance? Thank you!
@CeceXie
@CeceXie Год назад
yes, of course! you have to define "success" for yourself and just be aware that the legal industry is prestige-obsessed so will always be explicitly or implicitly telling you about what the more "prestigious"/"successful" path could be. but there are plenty of ways to practice law in smaller environments or government or even your own solo practice that are wonderful ways to practice law the way that YOU want to--not the way that others tell you that you should

Is transactional work only for corporate law? Or could I be a transactional civil rights lawyer?
@CeceXie
@CeceXie Год назад
civil rights law doesn't tend to have transactional work. there's some transactional work for when representing individuals, such as trusts and estates, but for the most part, transactional work is overwhelmingly for corporations

i’m still a lawyer-i wasn’t disbarred. having left legal practice recently doesn’t disqualify me from speaking about my experiences and knowledge of the legal field, and i think my recency in the field and subsequent departure actually makes me a trustworthy source for navigating the legal profession. i’m working on a book at the moment about law firm culture so still spend a lot of time thinking about my experiences at the law firms. i don’t have a preordained brand-i’m just sharing my life and thoughts, and if my content no longer serves you, please feel free to unfollow. be well
