We can't afford to pay teachers, but we can afford to turn the schools into jails.

This doesn't happen like this in Canada. Those citizens there are safer to go shopping and go to school and work without being shot dead. What's happening here is totally disgusting and shameful. And other countries are shaking their heads at it.

Thank you Senator Murphy! Keep up the fight to protect our children and grandchildren.

The "one door" thing is a terrible idea. I work as a sub, and this just leads to people getting trapped. Most of the time only a few staff members have access to the gate keys, so kids would be shot down trying to climb the fences. Terrifying.

Only one door in and out? So a complete violation of any fire code anywhere?

It's baffling how many folks are calling for more armed guards after the epic failure of both Parkland and Uvalde.

On Thursday there was a shooting outside my school (no one was injured), but the fact that it wasn’t even mentioned on the news, shows how common these shootings are and how normalized they are in America

Ballistic blankets? That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Meanwhile in Sweden, one of the least religious countries in the world, doors everywhere, and the same games, movies and music you listen to, we've had 11 school attacks since 1961. A total of 25 people were injured in these attacks (7 teachers, 18 students), and 11 of them died from their injuries (5 teachers, 6 students). The very first case in 1961 had the largest number of victims, with 6 injured and one dead. The rest have all had about 1-3 victims. Two of the attacks were carried out with firing arms (1961 and 2001), in 2015 an adult man killed 2 teachers and a student using a sword he'd bought online, there have been 8 knife attacks, and the last two I haven't been able to find any information what kind of weapon was used, but all victims (3 in total) in these cases were killed. In the USA 57 people have died in school attacks in the 2020s alone. That's 2,5 years compared to 7 decades with 11 dead. And the sickest part is that there are so many of you, even those among you who would welcome stricter gun laws, who simply shrug and go "It is what it is" and "There's nothing we can do about it." And while you sit on your hands, your children are dying. I wonder, will it still "be what it is" when it's your child, your teenager, your brother or mother or uncle "dying like a hero." I am a teacher and not once, not even when a right-wing nutjob with a sword attacked the school 300 yards away from the pre-shool were I worked, have I ever even considered what I would have to do or hos I should act in the case of an incident. We don't teach our children to hide under desks and live in fear.

Doors: how would everyone get out if a shooter, a fire or anything else dangerous is already inside?

Dear Ted, As a former teacher, schools have monthly, fire drills and all the children have to exit the building through all the exit doors, so no doors can be locked. they are locked from the outside.

Also really rich to suggest changes to school buildings and classrooms, while consistently underfunding most public schools.

Unfortunately nobody is going to consider the gun issue until it affects them directly

Like someone said a few days ago : take the dangerous thing away ! When your toddler is running around with scissors...are you gonna make everything stab-proof, give the kid stab-proof clothing & helmet ? Or are gonna take those fèkking scissors away !? GTFOOH.

I remember the first time I allowed my son to have a video game that portrayed violence. I literally asked him, “Do you promise to not shoot a bunch of people if I let you get this game?” He laughed at me. “ Yes mother, I promise I won’t!” It was a joke! Of course he knew that! Ridiculous to think that children don’t know that violence on a video game is the same in violence in reality. He laughed with me about it because it was so ludicrous. It sounds like a horrible joke now, but just shows what a foolish argument this is. My child thought it was ridiculous.

This cannot be real: One door and man traps. No sane person would make such suggestions not even as a joke.

If the government thinks/believes they can & should force religion onto its citizens, I will fight them, tooth & nail.. religious freedom means people may practice whichever religion their beliefs are rooted in. That also means that those who don't have a "religion" may sleep in on Sunday.

CRT has literally never been taught to kids in America ever. It’s just a concept at this point. I think a single law school (adults only) is trying out a course. That’s it!!

Looking from Europe I am happy for the US to have ppl like Trevor Noah and John Oliver who bring in common sense and an outside view to the states.

I was just shocked to find out that police departments auction off confiscated guns, including AR15s. What?

Hint to Supreme Court "originalists": By "Arms," the 2nd Amendment intended the only firearms that existed: big, heavy, inaccurate, slow-firing,, muzzleloading muskets--NOT the lightweight, rapid-firing, high-capacity firearms that created the unheard-of phenomenon of mass shootings.

They would love it if they could make this a one-door issue, so they can have an endless supply of scape-goats about the debate over guns; "who was in charge of that door! It's THEIR fault they didn't stop this, not ours!"

It’s so sad to see how hard it is for Americans to get proper gun laws and culture. If you give someone a gun, at least know the person is properly taught and not going to use it badly at least-? the leaders/government blame EVERYTHING ELSE BUT GUNS. They avoid the problem when they should be focusing more on THE GUNS. I hope maybe Switzerland and Canada can teach USA how to do it right. The world is just crazy rn. Stay safe everyone ❤️

I'm all in favor of decreasing church attendance.

This was around 16 years ago or so, but I used to live in Vancouver, BC. At the time then the homicide rate was 19 for the entire province of BC in a year. In just Seattle however, around 3 hours' drive south from Vancouver, it was over 1200. I don't know what's changed since then, but it always gave me the chills to think about.

In CA many schools don't have doors. Sometimes the classrooms are bungalows.

I met a guy who has only been in this country a few years and he has already stopped and disarmed a shooter in Texas.

Additional to the background check, I think limiting the gun numbers per owner and increasing the taxes on guns should help. Compound Tax: Frist gun 50% tax, second 100%, third 150%, ...

It’s funny, that guy that talked about his pretend life as a child, that he pretended he had a gun and life went on. What if he could have had easy access to a real gun.

I was a Republican until 2016. I don't recognize that party any longer. it's definitely not my party anymore. Their constitutes what them to ban automatic assault guns/rifles, a waiting period, ....... I hope the voters vote them out of office.

A great percentage of video games are from Asia and they don't have mass shootings. On the flip Asains listen to a lot of American music and still they don't have mass shootings so miss me.

So I have kids 8 & 9, so am I supposed to take my kids from home to school and that's it?!?!? What about Sutherland Springs Church shooting? So I can't take them to church? What about the El Paso Walmart shooting? We switch to Target? What about the Buffalo Grocery store shooting? I get Grocery home delivery? Life needs to go on, there is no need to have assult weapons!!! I served 20 years in the military we were trained on those weapons but we didn't carry it to work, the Grocery store and so on. It was for in case of war. The only ones that carried them were the SECURITY POLICE!!! we have a HAND gun at home but it is locked where my kids CANNOT get to it and we have taught them respect for guns and have taught them that in the wrong hands can cause harm or death. Not only that we have a license for it and both my husband and I are trained. I had 20 years of training in the military and he grew up with them on a ranch. I am so over this!!! These politicians getting gun company money need to go!!!!

If there's a shooter in the school, how is having one door going to help? Especially if it's a heavy, secured door? I'm pretty sure people will just panic and trample each other, attempting to escape through the single door.🙄 Wouldn't the shooter be better able to predict that people will head towards a single door, so they would keep that in mind when they're shooting people?

It's pretty bad, when we are worse than El Salvador, which has had 2942 deaths by gun violence as of this year!

The Uvalde police department gets 40% of the cities budget. They are not under-budget. They were fully armed. They even have their own form of a swat team. The didn't need to wait for a door breacher, the janitor had the door key and gave it to them to open the door.

In Japan where my cousin was born, there is a law that no one owns or carries a gun unless they have a real license to carry one for working situations, thus security guards, etc and not ONE human is protesting their big gun rights are violated and guess what? There have NO kids shot by gangs, NO mass shootings and that speaks louder than anywhere in our globe as it is a larger population there.

There are quite a few reasons why today's America has the highest violent crime rate drug alcohol dependency problem in the world. 1 at the same time the lowest standards of quality pertaining to our air water foods landscapes working living environment every day home products. 2 on top of having the most soft lazy out of shape overfed undernourished overworked underpaid weaklings in existence. This combination of self-neglect reckless stupidity exacerbates any and all problems. Resulting in many of today's Americans not having a appreciation of their own life their own physical freedom within their own body. Resulting in so much generic synthetic pain that they develop a falsified rage Therefore not being able to appreciate anybody else's life so they anxiously impulsively want to show others this falsified pain by taking the lives of others this form of attention seeking is almost beyond comprehension.

A big step to fixing gun violence is to simply get rid of gun manufacturers liability shielding. If the gun makers had to pay everytime this happens they would think of and enact steps to stop mass shootings.

It is true there are much less Church service attendees in Germany than you might think, I worked as sexton for years and at other days than eastern or Christmas, there were mostly only 10 out of 2000 members of the parish who attended.
