Balrog is a bar of soap I tell you!!! Also Knowing the kind of person misery is, I think jenka created balrog for misery so that misery had at least one friend
@@TheRoyalOne-xb4vw not just that but it could also explain why balrog is seemingly indestructible. Jenka probably saw misery and her antagonistic nature and so she made balrog strong and sturdy in case if misery were to use him as a punching bag
Maybe Ballos created Balrog to serve the user of the crown alongside Misery Which would make his "we asked for it" line a lot sadder, since he literally didn't ask for it, he was just born to serve assholes
This would be rad! But this also sounds very inaccurate. This is the first time I've ever heard of this and the sound for the letter "L" is often replaced with the sound for the letter "R" in Japanese. We can see this with another famous Japanese "Balrog" character: Vega from Street Fighter. Vega is a bit of a weird case, but just know in Japanese, Vega's name is "バルログ", which quite literally translates to "Baru-Rogu". You can see this yourself by Googling "バルログ スト5" and see who pops up. "R=L" is a very common translation rule with Japanese when looking at names not from Japanese origin or when translating English words from Japanese. I would love to be proven wrong, though. Balrog being some form of soap god would be hilarious.
I choose to believe Jenka made him in order to give a young misery a playmate, and as a not so subtle way of saying "maybe you should bathe more often."
They look INCREDIBLE! But I do love the final design, haha. They remind me a ton of the Cave Story 3D japanese artwork in the screenshot. The Doctor looks amazing in the beta build, too! I'd love to play the Blade Strangers Beta purely for the fact it had a lot more Cave Story content in it
Prototype Balrog/Puu looks like the Milkwalker. Also, I was curious why Balrog and Ballos have such similar names. I figured they must be based on some Japanese word resembling "Balo" (or Baro). As it turns out, Balrog and Ballos are called Barurogu and Borosu, respectively, so there is no actual connection between their names in the original Japanese, in case anyone else was wondering.
Well, in Cave Story+, Balrog refers to Jenka as "auntie", implying they are related, and Ballos is Jenka's brother, so it would make sense they are similar
The most likely answer was that Balrog is a mechanical creation by Ballos based on our ingame evidence. I don't think hes a bar of soup because despite his design clearly being based on Puu, there are blatant differences that suggest he is a mechanical life form, design and gameplay wise.
Great video once again! I remember watching that video on the Nintendo Channel when it came out, and recently watched it again. Brings me back! I got wii points for Christmas that year, and spent it on Sonic 4 Episode 1, and Cave Story! I had already played through it so many times, but seeing it all updated on the wii was a treat!
Who knows maybe balrog is the last remnants of the soap species not sure of puu would count claming he's a ghost but is he a ghost a or soap that can disassemble himself hmm.
I'm sure Puu is purely just a "for fun" boss like Ironhead. None of those bosses serve any purpose to the story and their both references. Ironhead to Ika-chan and Puu Black to Cave Story's Beta. In the beta, there definitely was a species tho
Sadly, Cave Story isn't a ROM and can't really be editted in the same way. Most fan games are editted from the games engine using tools like Sue's Workshop. This is how games like Jenka's Nightmare and Sue's Story were made
@@Nerdieo has been for a long time, you mean this was an unintentional coincidence? As a side note, it has created hilarious spinoff threadslike "where is balrog" or "how is balrog"
