They’ve been polling Kamala v Trump since long before Biden stepped down. It’s true that this data doesn’t frame in the reality that Biden stepped down, but everyone could foresee there was a chance he went to the Shady Acres retirement community because his brain was obviously breaking. Cenk is not thinking in terms of timing and logistics. He's emphatically hyperbolic about what could be, instead of focusing on what the reality is. It's like he's intentionally being loud and bravos, and emotional, instead of thinking with a clear head. I think Cenk made some really good counterpoints with regards to free media and having a period of over a month wherein Democrat after Democrat publicly advertises Democratic policies and viewpoints - and doing so in a competitive field with lots of uncertainty about the outcome, which equals great TV, clicks, and attention. Meanwhile the Republicans have already played their trump card, have already had their convention, can't break into the news cycle. Then at the end, someone of the dozens of people with better poll numbers than Biden and Harris comes out on top, with barely any time for Trump to adjust to them or to get ready for campaigning against them.

Polls are proven to have little predictive value, close to 0. An open convention of an incumbent party has *never* produced a winning candidate, at least not since the 19th century.

Kamala Harris held a number of government posts where she determined prosecution of citizens in California, either at the county level or, eventually, the state level. To say that she was a horrifically bad prosecutor is a wild understatement. She was such bad prosecutor that the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals threatened to name her, and her employees, in a decision in which they argued that even though the key piece of evidence in one of their cases had been found a complete and utter fabrication, the person should remain in prison. Later in her career, she showed a willingness to use her prosecutorial powers to harass people she simply didn’t like, such as the infamous Backpage cases. She openly acknowledged that there was no basis for a case against Backpage, and then charged them (improperly) anyway, because she was posturing for a senate run, and to hell with the law. If Harris wants to be president, she needs to get used to having her past brought up against her. She was a terrible prosecutor on multiple fronts, and her pretense otherwise is simply an outright fabrication that doesn’t match reality.

My soon to be 20 year old daughter is interested in registering to vote for the first time, not because of Biden or trump but because of Kamala. If young people get energized it will be game over for Trump. I have to laugh at the "very short timeline" comment. In Australia, we all complain about a long election cycle if our elections go longer than 6-8 weeks. While the US has been getting ready just to go to the conventions to select the presidential candidate, France had 2 elections, the UK had an election, and a lot of other countries had elections, most with a lead up time of 1 - 3 months. The amount of time and money spent on elections in the US is outrageous.
It's a big country, so it makes some sense that the cycle would be longer. The Indian election spanned one month and a half. Not the campaigning phase, the election itself. I agree it's a bit too long for my tastes, the US election I mean, but it makes sense that you can't have a snap election within one month like we just had in France.

I'm feeling more optimistic than I have in a while. She has poor approval at the moment, but she's mostly been out of the public eye for 4 years (as VPs typically are). Her approval has basically been tied entirely to Biden. As long as she doesn't hold back, and hits the campaign trail hard, she can turn that around pretty easily. Just has to maintain the energy until November.

It's 9 days since the shooting & the SS director did not even visit the site. Her appearance in front of congress gave absolutely no confidence she is capable to lead the organization & carry out the difficult job of protection. All Cenk is saying is that there should’ve been an open convention/primary. Which is true. Before Biden officially dropped, he was also saying that Kamala should take over for Biden. Which IS the smartest option in terms of fundraising. However, Kamala is now the candidate, and she’s still coming in with baggage.
