I agree that 20 years is along time. We live 60-100 years unless you are one of the people with the best gene pool out there. This means out of someone's lifetime even if they make it to 100 (Most do not) you only have to replace the trees around 5 times and that is assuming you inherit the house and land from when you were born. The reality is at the rate of 20 years you will only replace it 1-3 times. People have also chimed in with the comment section stating peaches have a shorter life span. Tipping is easily fixed with stakes.

They are also MORE prolific. They pack MORE density of crop per size compared to a full size standard. Having 10 dwarf trees vs 1 big apple, think about it, not all trees live their lifespan either. They can get disease, all sorts. I've seen 40 year old full sized apple trees give up the ghost because of either damage or disease. If you have 10 or so dwarf ones you are spreading out your chances of success over 15-20 years. Also someone did mention that they have grafted apple trees from the 1960s, dwarf kinds, that are still doing fine. I think with some care in the first 3-4 years, they will last a very long time.

@@ingridm7041 15 years is a long time! And as I see it, they only die because of disease or damage. They are still capable of living much longer. If you take care of them in the first 3-4 years they will last a very long time.

Umm dwarf fruit trees don’t get real trunks so no firewood, but good kindling

Yeah. Peach trees are only productive for a good 15-25 years. Soon after that, they typically decline. However, apple trees can live much longer than that. Blueberries can also live for 50-100 years in some cases. But yeah, Peach trees don't live longer than 25 years. Someone needs to come up with a peach that lives forever 😂

@@fotochikyo we took it out because it was rotten in the core and was reaching the point of being dangerous dropping pretty large branches.

We have replaced it with a cherry and two apple trees.

Make sure the cedar isn't close to apples. Cedar trees carry a disease deadly to apples and contract it easily

@@joekenetic7509 yeah. I found out a few months ago. It’s to late to anything about now though. Cedar grows wild in my area so I can’t avoid it anyway. I planted the cedar trees around 6 or 7 years ago and my 1st apple trees went in almost 3 years ago. If I loose the apples then I will replace them with pears.

You might be able to if it was a big enough tub. I would try w/ 1 or 2 and see how it goes!

Yes that is probably to close, but there is the espalier method you could use to grow an apple tree along a fence or building.

I think most dwarfs top out 15-20 feet, but pruning can keep them smaller.

@@WhistleThicket Semi dwarfs reach about 15-20, true dwarf varieties usually only get to around 8-14

I am from Southern Michigan and I am going to buy fruit trees also, learn all you want from Google as that's what I am doing! What I am finding with apple tree is you need a pollinator for best production but you need to Google your current growing zone and it will you to decide what will work best for you

Semi dwarfs are in the middle as far as age wise and root structures

Dwarf trees last about 15-20 years, unfortunately that’s about how old mine all are! Yes a fruit cocktail tree is great for a small yard.

The way I see it is 15-20 years is a good investment considering the amount you can plant and the prolificness of them based on their size. For every full size standard, you can have 10 dwarf varieties and they will always produce WAY MORE every year when you combine them vs the standard. Pruning becomes easier, as you said, and you can literally control exactly how they grow with MINIMAL effort.

Fruit tree get more delicious the older they are, I have 30 years old water apple tree and it was the most delicious rich taste ever, no 2 years can compete with it.
