I just found out a couple of days ago that I've been accepted to Texas A&M's fall 2021 semester as an international student from India. I've been wanting to major in Comp Sci so I'm happy I stumbled across this video. I still don't completely get the whole "choosing classes" system but hopefully, this info helps me when I choose my classes in the future.
I tried applying for Fall 2021 today, But there are only quick admit category options. I could not apply to that category as they are only for TAMU students only. Can u help me with that?
@@gowthamravipati7246 I'm not sure about the quick admit category but the application deadline for fall 2021 for TAMU was Dec 1st of 2020, so you're a bit too late :")
@@pranitha7435 I checked in CAS There was no option as such like other than that quick admit... I would like to give it a shot for spring. Could you please send me a link that u applied through?
@@yousefawad8020 I have personal reasons to transfer to A&M other than just better education but I guess engineering is better at A&M because its a bigger school and it's older.
Hello, I am little bit confused on the course catalog. Is the governmetn and politics a required credit. I am in ap gov right now, and i am wondering if it is worth putting effort into that exam, cause my teacher didn't teach us anyting for the whole semester. Also, are you saying to take math 151 and skip math 152 with using AP CALC BC credit. Final thing, I am right now in ap lit, ap chem, apes, ap comp sci principles, gov and econ and ap calc bc. What ap exams do you think I shoudl prioritze based on what will help me for my major.
No, in fact those are requirements to get into the major. Chem 107 and Phys 206 are the two classes you need for ETAM in terms of science. What we’re trying to get at is that you should take certain major specific classes earlier if that’s a possibility so you won’t be overloaded later in the degree plan. Sorry for the confusion! I’d take a look at the degree plan and creating a schedule that works for you. Good luck!
Excuse me, the official page of Texas A&M University's mcs of computer science says that there are no exams, no papers and no projects. That means reading this mcs, as long as you do your homework without any examination, right? Wish u reply,Thx
Stupid question. How much will pay for tuition and dormitory per semester? One year is equal to two semester. How much per sem total cost or per year? How many units per semester usually? And total units to get a degree of computer science.
So you’ve actually got 2 options, well 3 if you’re in Texas. One way is to talk to your advisor and see if there’s an equivalence exam or credit you can take for it. Another way, and possibly the way most students do it, is to take the AP Calculus BC exam and get a 5 on it. And lastly, if you’re in Texas, you can take Calculus Dual Credit classes (DC) that will give you that transfer credit for 151 and 152. However, in terms of prerequisites, you’d just have to get an acceptable score on your Math Placement exam and have 151 (or an equivalent credit) good to go for it. Thanks for watching!
Hello, thanks so much for this informational video! I had a question about physics/chem for ETAM. So I was wondering if U can take chem 107/117 or phy 206 at community college and transfer the credit or do you have to take them on campus. And if so, which one should I take (which will be harder?) Thanks.
One of the ETAM requirements is that you do a minimum of two science courses through A&M so be sure that is covered before trying to take either class via a community college. As for which one is harder, that all comes down to personal preference.
Yes you are also required to take two math courses through tamu whether that is in person online or over the summer before your etam. The link below is the requirements as of 2021
I am a senior in high school who has accepted admission for CECS and have a few questions. 1. I have a bunch of credit from ap scores and dual credit and so with my classes split up evenly, I have 2 semesters with 11 credits. WIll they make an exception or will I have to take another class? If I try to take future classes then I won't even be close to 12 credits for my later semesters. Will I have to take some random class to get to 12 credits? 2. For my first semester, I have Engr 102, Hort 203 (floral design class, very easy), math 251, and csce 121, do you think that is an easy schedule and will I be able to get a spot for csce 121 and how hard is that class?
1. 11 credits should be fine, but my advice is to take some classes earlier on so your workload can be significantly less later on. Also it looks good for recruiters. But no, you won’t have to take another class or anything of that sort. 2. that’s a tough one. 121 is a little difficult but that’s just because they want it to be. I’d have a solid understanding of C++ before going to that class, but you should be fine. Overall, the schedule looks good. I took 121 my spring semester of freshman year, so I think chances are that you can get in. Watch our video on introductory programming coursework schedule for more on this class! It’s useful in understanding the framework
So as of Spring 2021, the required GPA for automatic admission into CS through ETAM is actually 3.75 on a 4.0 Scale. However, through holistic review, a 3.5 GPA is possible. And if you don’t make automatic admission, try it again the following semester. Chances are, this time with more classes on your roster, and more time to improve your GPA, you can do it. Thanks and good luck!
Hey, I'm also at TAMU Engineering. For the class of 2024, it's still 3.5 for auto admit. However, it changes to a 3.75 for the class of 2025 and later. Just wanted to let you know so you don't make any rash decisions based on inaccurate information.
Hi, is A&M a good college to get in for Computer Science?! How difficult it’s for a student to get into Computer Science? Thank you for your information
Howdy! A&M is a great college to major in Computer Science (it’s actually one of the top programs in the state!) Computer Science, nonetheless, requires the Entry-To-A-Major Process at the end of your first year doing General Engineering, with a cumulative GPA currently of 3.75. It’s fairly easy to do if you’re strong in Math and Science; specifically, Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics. If you’d like, you can check out the major requirements and courses for CS at A&M here engineering.tamu.edu/cse/academics/degrees/undergraduate/bs-cs.html. Thanks for watching! Hope this helps!
@@prancast5954 thank you! This really helps..good to know about “Entry to aMajor process” after first year General Engineering.. you are doing good job.. it really helps the students in high school and parents like me.. thank you!
Yo, I got accepted into A&M but for econ and I want to switch to engineering for CS. What are the chances of getting into CS and what is the GPA and courses required for switching. Please respond, it can help me choose my college, if I get enough confidence that I can switch from Econ to CS because I really don't want to stay in Econ. They originally rejected me from the college of engineering so I had to pick Econ for second major but I want to internally transfer.
To switch to a CS major is pretty difficult at Texas A&M but according to the college of engineering you first need to complete both cal 1 and cal 2 along with two science courses while also maintaining a 3.0 GPA. But to be competitive and have a better chance you will probably need a much higher GPA because they put a premium on kids that are already in the college of engineering and are ETAMing
By my estimations probably a 3.7 or above to be truly competitive for computer science but you should definitely discuss this with an academic advisor and your parents before making a final decision
Yes! I definitely recommend taking certain sophomore classes as a freshman if possible. Some of these, such as CSCE 121, can be taken as a general engineering major. However, a majority of CS courses at TAMU have a major designation requirement (meaning you have to be in that major to register; in other words, gone through ETAM). I would take CSCE 121 as a freshman so you can get ahead into it! As for Math 151 and 152, that we can’t really tell you much about. For ETAM, it is required that you take a certain number of Math and Science courses (preferably at TAMU, but with approval from advisor, through AP Credit). I personally recommend taking Math 151 if you’re wanting that GPA boost, and to understand how college calculus works. I recommend skipping one of the two though, if you really want to. Thanks for watching!
So from what we can understand, Blinn College is launching a program that coexists with the Texas A&M curriculum that allows for smaller classes and lowered tuition. You’d have to be living on the Brenham Blinn campus however. It’s a very interesting program, you can find out more about it here. engineering.tamu.edu/academics/academies/blinn-bryan/index.html
No, we do have to take Cal 3, but it is recommended to take one of the lower levels like Cal 1 again despite how confident you may be just for the GPA booster to start out college with. I myself am taking Cal 3 right now as a sophomore but if you have the proper credits its definitely possible to start out in Cal 3 as a freshman if you want to.
We purely have knowledge of the undergraduate side of computer science but based on your GRE score it looks like you are in good shape. The biggest advice I could give is to highlight whatever research you have done as well as other extracurriculars, make sure you apply to as many schools as possible.
Yeah this general engineering is specifically for Texas A&M and its basically a year where all engineers take general engineering classes and eventually enter an actual major usually by the second year. At most schools you're usually allowed to start with your major specific classes right away so this is something to keep in mind if you go to A&M.
I personally have not heard of a case of anyone only studying for a semester but what I can say is that its extremely difficult to transfer especially into cs if you're not already here, and unless you have already completed entry to a major into cs, I wouldn't guarantee anything. Since I study cs here I can personally tell you that it is very doable to finish within 4 years.
