Yep, as I mentioned a while back in one of your live streams, the C8 still has a tunnel for structure, thus the door rockers can be lower allowing easier entry and exit! Thanks!
Yeah and fortunately the center console & cup holders are a little deeper than C7 as shown in this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UlRbpOOeV9A.html
The Lotus Esprit's excellent handling came from just such a tunnel/backbone running down the center of the car. GM owned Lotus for awhile. This chassis reminds me of the Esprit.
Would this also lend itself to the possibility of an all wheel drive system of some type? Either space for a drive shaft, or batteries for a front mounted electric motor?
Would be nice if CG11 kind of knew anything about what he was trying to describe. Nice color valve covers. The center tunnel chassis design goes back to Colin Chapman's '60s Lotus Elan.
@@kerrylittle3900 ...best of luck and happy motoring...if l could afford one I'd get it in metallic silver , tan / red interior with the performance package..
@@tedmalley7636 Thanks mate. Hope to have it by spring time. With the Z51 package with the performance tires you cant run them when its below freezing. Heard they can crack. Its winter here now so it would have been in storage for several months anyways. I have climate controlled garages so I am letting a good friend of mine store his 2019 Grand Sport over the winter in one of them. He left me the keys too, ha ha. But I wouldn't dare. He has those run flat performance tires on his too. But at least I can go out and look at it. LOL.
@@kerrylittle3900 ..I understand Canadian winter's aren't kind to any car...I'm eager to see the intro of the AWD , Twin turbo hybrid "Zora" spec...at 985 HP it should make mince meat of just about any Ferrari (still at less than half price)...
Man, do you know anything about Corvettes? I don't know if I misunderstood you or you just don't know what you are talking about. The ONLY Corvettes that did not have a high center console is the C1 & C2! The C8 console is right on par with the last few generations! The only big difference is the climate control bar, whatever you want to call it. FYI the center exhaust started on the C5. Why would the side exhaust be controversial? Up until you, I've not heard or seen anything talking about the location of the exhaust exit. How does it look like the engine is hooked around 180 degrees from the C7? If it were, it would be a transverse mounted engine. Meaning the engine exhaust and cylinders would be lined up left to right. It looks like and it is a longitudinal mounted engine as all Corvettes have been.
@@CarGuy11 Oh ok I see what you mean. You're talking about the transmission tunnel of the OLD style Corvettes. Gotcha. LMAO All front engine Corvettes are now the OLD style!
Castings are cheap as chips to produce. Once you have the dies, you just bang that molten ally in them all day and hey presto - cheap, lightweight and most of all strong chassis members.
not a fan of vettes, but I love looking at exoskeletons of vehicles. One question I have, how easy is maintenance going to be on the engine/transmission? It looks like it's going to be buried like hell with everything installed.
@@jimbeam4111 Not really. Minimal parts being shipped over seas. Also....no ridiculous mark ups just for status like ferarri, Lamborghini, GTR, etc. I'd take a C8 over ANY exotic, japanese super car.
GM must be using the profit from sales of work trucks and fleet vehicles. The technology they use in Corvettes will usually trickle down ti other GM vehicles.
@@CarGuy11 True. But the backbone won't twist and flex. I drive an '88 Fiero GT. And the backbone center console was perfect for the car's stability in the turns. And although vastly inferior to the new vette, Colin's design for his Lotus was the wise choice for Chevy.
Very nice, I do not like hoe the side intakes were designed, the 430 or 458 have much nicer design, but looking at your video I see that it could be very easy for aftermarket players to design plug and play side panels with different design. hope to see a lot of aftermarket parts for the car
I am just saying the cooling intakes from the 430 , 458 and even McLaren 570 are just more appealing, and by the looks of chassis, side panels are an easy replacement. Like old Porsches you will see many aftermarket players will come with innovative body designs , which is a great think for the Corvette owners. I have a GT3 and am seriously changing for this Corvette, car concept.
When you begin to fry the brakes with a Brake-By-Wire e-booster system, the smell is your really your only feedback, even if their pad temperature model is spot on (which would be impossible). If the brake temperatures are neglected for long enough (for example on track) and the fluid actually boils (rare but does happen) then the system will most likely (should) set a leak detection fault. Once a leak detection is set, we get nice things like circuit isolation and no boost. Cheers!
vaccuum boost was the same way. this system is being sold as a brake by wire, but that's really untrue. it's simply an electric over hydraulic assisted accumultator instead of a vaccuum accumulator.
Look at how they have done those heads with the intakes straighter than ever before! Amazing - there is still development to come. Certainly doesnt look like too much room for 2 cams per side on top.
From a engineering perspective its a novel idea that could very well be superior to ALL other chassis design. The center spline and all other supporting structure leads into a TRIANGULATION design that is repeated throughout. Very interesting.
@@CarGuy11 Its enough space for a two seater sportscar, and if you notice the interior is a cockpit design to a extreme. GM has no problem incorporating new technology into their lineup that is world reknowned to a extreme. More than the most exotic companies, and i believe you are viewing one of these advancements. A bare bones C7 dosent have a chassis anywhere near this high tech. Look at each corner carefully, and you see structural Ribbing. I dont think i have seen it to this extreme before. This aluminum chassis is light years ahead of the last one.
@@thiosemicarbizidebenzoylal2921 The C7 had same center tunnel & aluminum chassis. They needed the tunnel for torque tube in C7 & C8 uses an evolution of the C7 chassis which is why it still has the center tunnel. In my opinion, one of the best features of mid engine cars is the lack of center tunnel.
Since they did not include port injection with the direct injection, how did they address the carbon buildup on the intake valves which is a common problem with direct injection engines?
It appears that the rear area might be an area for some additional dynamat or heat shielfding to protect the trunk even more than did the factory application of heat protection from the trunk. How much heat can be redirected in of course unknown as yet.
I agree - he says "heres a cooler (up the front) I dont know if its for the engine or transmission". Then there is the small radiators at the rear in front of the wheels 'I dont know what these do". Well dumbarse, you just follow the pipework and see where they go! I'd be impressed if this guy even knows where to find - let alone read, the oil dipstick!
Great upload. For the life of me I can't figure out why GM is not giving purchasers the option as to which tire they want. I would want the A/S Michelins with my Z51 and if I want to track it seriously, I would purchase the "sticky" tires separately. With only the "sticky" tires I lose driving time living do to the cold weather here in the NE. Save the Wave.
@@CarGuy11 Obviously GM "feels" differently, but you're missing the point. The Z51 is not a dedicated track car, but affords one the possibility to track it. Most purchasers of the Z51 will not track their, but go for that option just in case. If I lived it in a state that never goes below 50 degrees, fine, let it come with sticky tires. There would be nothing wrong with GM adding tire choice as option.
@@CarGuy11 I agree with Peter, I bought my current 3LT Z51 for performance and all the bells and whistles one gets.............including wonderful highway driving and great gas mileage. Don't want either spoiler/wing on my C8, but do want all the other goodies, except the tires too. Those tires last about 15-18K tops. If you want to track, buy the tires required.......mistake by GM of the younger set not REALLY knowing who will use for what purpose, but DICTATING HOW IT WILL BE SOLD
@Truthisstrangerthan Fiction You are missing the point. GM can do all the testing they want on the base model and/or the Z51 and THEY can opt to use the sticky tires and they should. I would like to see GM give the purchaser the option as to which tires they want. It's then a win/win for all concerned.
@@CarGuy11 heres my car i built. 1 lt Elkhart lake blue metallic sky cool grey interior added 500 worth of yellow on my brake calipers added 1195 for performance exhaust added 995 for carbon flash race stripes otherwise I did what Chevrolet wanted i got an attainable car with a couple coolmadd ons. 62,850 or something. but to be fair i have bought more than 1 or 2 cars from them.
congratulations ! you made the deal of your life and got a supercar for just over $60 k that's going to make $250k+ cars looks stupid! I guess Corvette won't be able to build as many units as they could potentially sell and would have customers for. I heard some dealers already had to turn customers away. the demand is just gigantic. and with good reason, it is the performance machine offering of the decade.
If the master cylinder is indeed a “brake by wire” system, that would almost guarantee that GM will be making a hybrid Powertrain corvette, the so called Zora edition. Hybrid needs a brake by wire system to blend regen with friction brakes. The Volt and Bolt EV has this. Also the Acura NSX has brake by wire but hooked up a little differently
Incredible car! If I had the money, I would definitely buy one, the value is simply insane! But I don't think that I will ever make enough money for this car, especially since we will see a massive price markup in Germany, like with the last Corvette (the base model C7 is still 97k around here...). My only chance at a Corvette would be a used C6 for 25-30k...
I like how it's got bolt on style upper control arm bushings. Those are stupid easy to get at and it means you dont gotta fight the strut to get access to the inside nut like on older cars. It seems this car wont be too bad to work on unlike some vettes
I would not wish bad things to anyone that buys the new Corvette but Heaven for bid if there is a fender bender that pushes a part of the frame in a new direction. How is a body/frame person to straighten it back to factory spec? The frame engineer must have had a really good time in front of his CAD screen. Yes, I am a very old programmer.
I never thought I'd see engineering like this in a mass market American car! Now I want with with clear plastic panels to show off that chassis! And that chassis need to have dipped painscheme - camo, leopard, tiger, ......
They hid all the problems they found in the year it was delayed. Too bad they settled the strike, they should have closed!!! Wheels cracking, not covered!!! Transmission slips and has harsh shifts, your problem not theirs. Torque converter shakes, not their problem it's yours. Overheating on Z06's, not their problem, it's yours etc etc etc sue the pricks!!! I did and won!!' Sued them over my Cadillac and won!!! @@CarGuy11 that guy talking said that it's huge and he's surprised that it is huge may still be using it as a structure looks like. That doesn't sound like an engineer talking.
They could build a DOHC twin turbo making 1,200 HP, but they would not sell half as many as their current configuration. Throw enough money at something and you'll get what you're looking for. But that's not Chevrolet's / Corvette's philosophy.
Interesting; I thought that placing the engine closer to the drive wheels should reduce the weight since you don't need no stinking power loss of the longer FE/RWD driveshaft.....Instead a 2020 C8 Z51 DCT weighs about 200 + lbs more than a 2019 C7 Z51 8-auto....One of the big weight problems? The new tranny weighs in close to 350 lbs! Or about 100 less than the engine....Crazy!....However, you can't deny the 'magical' acceleration. And a base C8 with only the Z51 will set you back $65K while at the same time only being matched by a $122K 911 Carrera S (w/out power seats!) . The C8 tested in the article below is a heavy-optioned 3LT Z51, meaning that a lighter, basic 1LT with the Z51 should do a tick better, plus it has power seats!. Imagine that, $65K and the nearest competition is almost twice as much! Obviously more people can afford the $65K than the 911 Carrera S. www.motortrend.com/cars/chevrolet/corvette/2020/2020-chevrolet-corvette-c8-vs-2020-porsche-911-comparison-test-review/
