Hey! This is a college junior talking: you might want to bring a printer. Not a giant one, but a small printer that you can keep on the desk. The reason why is that if you’re up at 4 o’clock in the morning and you have to print a 10 page paper due at 10 that day, you don’t want to have to try and remember after a 2 hour nap to print it out. Especially on the printers that the school provides you because they glitch. A lot.
Bonus tip: if you can’t afford a printer and your school charges to print then go to staples, they’ll print for very cheap (for example, at my school they tried to charge $25 for a project but staples only charged $5 at most)
Tania the HP - OfficeJet 3830 is a good one and it’s only 69.99. You can get it at Best Buy. There’s also the HP DeskJet 1112 which is cheaper coming in at 49.99. Hope this helps :)
i've graduated already but some other things to def bring: your insurance cards if you have insurance! bring your birth certificate, ssn (esp if you plan on getting a job), and a safe, secure place to put those things. also i recommend getting a journal to fill it with memories-- both written and physical!
COMMAND STRIPS ARE A RIP OFF!! my school charged me $100 dollars for damages my command stripes did. tip: ask before you move in if you're allowed to use some push pins bc i know my school allowed us to be able to as long as it wasn't like all over the wall. also washie tape is your friend and good for hanging posters and pictures. a good alternative to command strips is the blue mounting putty that we all know from elementary school.
Going to college in 17 days so I've definitely have been preparing out the @$$!!! I've already gotten or have made plans to get a lot of this stuff but on your list you had a trash can and that's something I had said but forgot to mark down!!! THANK YOU!!! That and hangers which I'm just going to grab a 10 pack from the dollar store are things that were not on my list but in and out of my mental list. Hangers are necessary but I know the closets are small and so are the drawers but I had been pretty much planning on using these huge rectangular bags I'm storing my stuff in as an added under the bed drawer-like system so I have the drawers and the extras under the bed. Things that I felt were left out were Anti-Bacterial Shower Flip Flops for the people not lucky enough to go to a college that has the bathroom in your dorm #sadface #jelly I know my college actually listed them as something students SHOULD bring and it was even further pointed out with a little notice highlighting that it was advised you bring them. Curtains. My college is nice enough to provide those opaque shades that you slide down and they're not broken but I visited my friend at her college and she and her roomie were going on about how at the end of the year, the boys on campus had a tradition to try to sneak into the girl's dorm and destroy the blinds to a point that the school actually refused to stop replacing them. They had to get curtains and spring rods FAST and they would only change in the communal bathroom for two weeks after they put up the nice new curtains because they were reasonable paranoid. So yeah. Curtains...and a spring rod but... Take a good look at the dorm before you move in and that way if there's a mark or a bunch of scratches on the wall on move in day, no one can say it was you. White Out. Odds are the dorm walls are white or off white but if the white paint is only coating the wall, command hooks might actually take a chip off the wall and show off a darker color underneath. It's a lot easier to find a dark spot on a white or of white wall that to find a spot that's hidden in a similar color. Hey! It beats paying the fee! My college will charge almost $70 if that room isn't exactly the way it was before you moved in. Magic Hangers, Wonder Hangers, or whatever they're called these days. They are the things you hang your hangers on and it creates more space to hang things in a closet. I'm getting a 10 pack to split with my room mate and each on lets you hang 5 hangers on it and it takes up a total width of two of the biggest article of clothing you have on it so a big winter coat, that zippered school spirit hoodie, two sweaters, and the cardigan you LOVE can fit in a space that's not bigger in width than two of the winter coat! Essentially making the difference between "Holy Cornelius Fudge! It's BAD out there!" and "Oh...unfortunate but I'm prepared for that...I wonder if I have enough stuff to make enough homemade butterbeer for the pajama party..." Yeah people in college are down for Harry Potter theme parties! Plenty of fans wherever you go, trust me! lolz #things_just_got_harry #potterhead_and_proud Props to whoever got the Fudge line. You guys...are too cool for school! Hair ties. Hair ties. Hair ties. HAIR TIES!!! I guarantee that if you use them, you will need like ten thousand of these because it's the one thing we borrow from each other and never even consider returning because who wants a used hair tie? No one! it's like gum. Everyone takes a piece and doesn't give it back and you never know who has some fresh gum...or hair ties...get some gum while you're at it...lolz. The same can be said about hair clips and/or other similar items. Not just hair.
Aw Reese I remember watching you in middle school feeling nervous about high school and now I'm about to head to college and I'm watching you again :'-)
I hope I get to move into college with all of the coronavirus stuff going on 😔. my college said they're going to but this whole situation has showed me that nothing is guaranteed
As someone who is going to be a senior in college, this list is definitely helpful! Just also make sure to check your school’s policies on what you can bring. My school allows us to have fans, but things like air conditioners and space heaters are not allowed (they use too much energy/are a fire hazard). I do love this list! I would also recommend bringing a back scratcher - it seems stupid but you’ll definitely need it on several occasions!
the best topper is Serta. I got one last year and it made it through the entire year and I plan to use it again next year. it was about $40 but so worth it. they are found at bed bath and beyond!!!! honestly i used a cheap one ,y freshman year and it got so gross...
So glad I found your channel! I’ve been stressing so much on what to bring to college and didn’t even think about half of the things you’ve mentioned! I’m the first member in my family to go out of state and the pressure is ~real~ but now I feel so confident and ready. Appreciate you taking your time and making videos like this for your viewers!! Thank you tons!
i’ve watched college prep videos probably since my freshman year and my senior year is next year... Time flies, i can’t believe i’m gonna have to be a actual functioning adult in literally a year. But good thing i’ve been planning since 9th grade 😂
I'm a sophomore and currently in the hole of college prep videos lol. Currently making a list of things to bring too, since I know senior me won't remember what I need to bring, so it's a favor to future me lol. But good luck in college, I hope you do well!
my roommate and i used our tv allll the time honestly! I reserved my laptop for school work and every so often youtube. especially if you and your roommate are pretty good friends and watch a lot of things together, and the roku tv’s are great quality and worth it especially if you have like netflix/hulu/disney+ subscriptions
Hi reese! This is so weird. I'm Portuguese and here a lot of students, like me, still have exams till the rest of July. It's so crazy that in US you're already getting ready to next year! Next year I'll go to college so this video was so helpful. Continue with a good work. Can't wait to your fall videos, they are the best. 😍 Love you ❤️
buy a portable steamer!! they work just as well as an iron in a shorter amount of time (you can get all the wrinkles out of a piece of clothing in less than three minutes). they’re also much smaller than an iron and ironing board so they’re easy to store and they’re cheap too. you can find them at places like target, best buy, etc. for around $25
This was so helpful. I was so overwhelmed about what to bring to college. I got so stressed I'd forget something important. I never would of thought of some of the items like a trash can, vacuum, or silverware.
My dorm is apartment style, so there are 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen (stove, microwave, dishwasher, etc.). I can have pet fish, plants, and we get a security guard to escort us outside at night if we are alone because they want to maintain their record of a safe campus. The size of the rooms are pretty big compared to most dorm rooms and we can have overnight guests. Sorry for this, I am just super excited about it since I actually move there in August. But I helped my brother move in last fall so I got to see. Ah I am so excited!
call your school before you buy any appliances!! They have specific things that they do and DO NOT allow and they can fine you if they find you with banned appliances!
I've also heard though that if you bring up the appliances either covered in blankets or somehow hidden, you can bring them in because they legally can't go through your stuff for things like that. I don't know if that's true but a lot of other vloggers I watch have done that and said that
Pro tip: if you have pics on your phone, don’t print all and bring them. Make a collage. Or make a collage of your achievements. 1 pic or 10. Your choice
I have a metal spork and silicone reusable ziploc bags and I absolutely love them! The bags fold up super small so they don’t take up much room. I got both on Amazon for pretty cheap.
Perfect! All of it is jotted out in my notebook! So so so helpful, thank you! All the other videos only say like 10 things, but you listed all! Super helpful! New subscriber right here.
( This is an art comment ) So, I do art. Yeah, cool whatever. But when you’re in college, you might not have that much time to do art or some other stuff. Here’s a few things I think you should bring if you do do art. 1 : Pencils. Of course you’ll probably need pencils ( with an eraser, eraser topper or a separate eraser) because you might need to sketch something out. 2 : A few markers. This is optional, because if you don’t really color your art, then you won’t need markers. Same goes for colored pencils, crayons etc. 3 : Paint ( Only if you paint, obviously ) Obviously, if you paint you’re going to wanna bring paint. I suggest keeping it in a small container. 4 : Drawing Tablet If you do digital art, you’re probably going to want to bring your drawing tablet. If you have a small one that won’t take up that much room on your desk, I would take that one. 5 : Lining Pens If you do traditional art, you’re probably going to want to bring your lining pens. If you do, keep them in a container separate from you pencils, pens, etc. Obviously, you could bring whatever you want but I advise you bring it in small amounts. If you have a relatively small desk, you wouldn’t want to bring a ton of stuff because it would make a huge mess of your desk. If you have a somewhat large desk, you can probably bring a range of items. Of course, you don’t have to take my advice. This is just suggestions of what to bring if you do art.
I find that unless you don’t have a car, some things like fans/heaters/bathroom decor/mini fridge/etc and other items can just be bought after you arrive in college and check out the space. It’s best to just bring the real essentials: clothes, bedding, medicine..Going to college doesn’t mean you’ll be in the middle of nowhere. There are lots of stores in the vicinity just as it is back home.
Love this video! If you’re an incoming freshman I’d also make sure to look up dorm lists that can be printed off so you can check things off as you shop for them :)
New Video Yasss❤💜. Love you so much😚. Even though i am not going into college i am still supporting. Can you do a school advice video for everyone in general?
For the ironing situation, a hand held steamer could be the solution. Your clothes get pretty wrinkly in the spaces provided and if you are anything like me, you’ll want them out! They are pretty small and are easy to store away.
Hi Reese, this video is what I just needed to see, because I am heading to college (freshman) this fall. so this video will definitely help me.I would like to ask you, which laptop do you use? thanks for answer.greetings from the Czech republic(sorry for my english :D)ps: love you, you're the best ❤️
I'm on my last year of university and I live at home so I don't really require to bring anything to my dorm. But I watched this video because your hair and make up you look so perfect Reese!!! I have been following you since you were in high school.
I know this video was a bit over a year ago, but I had watched a different video where someone recommended to get/use a duvet cover instead of a comforter because of how hard it might be to be able to wash it. And duvet covers were also recommended due to the size of the beds in the dorms.
Hello!! This my first time watching one of your videos but you gave some super helpful advice😊I am not going to college next year but I am moving into a dorm room for a boarding school so a lot of the same things still apply. Love this video❤️and definitely going to take some of your advice and use it during the decision making part of the dorm move in process😁👍🏻
You look so.. beautiful and like on fleek, so refreshed up 😍😍😍 this video makes me look forward to my college year after this year, love ya Reese! ♥️♥️♥️
i really loved the keurig one of my roommates brought, because I didn't drink coffee everyday so a single pod for a day was nice. I don't like how you have to use plastic pods tho so I'll most likely be buying a reusable k-cup and fill it with my own coffee
I am legit 1 minute deep into this video and I already LOVE you!!! hahahaaa!!! I can tell this is gonna be super helpful!! I leave for college in like 4 days this is great!
