I like these lists, something tells me the Army of the Dead list will be difficult to play with such a small elite force, but it would be worth it for the theme.

I have just bought the box set and wondering if it is worth getting 2 starter boxes as on sale? or will that leave lots of models i wouldn't need if adding heroes etc. I haven't got the army books yet and they are on the list

The King of the dead singlehandedly broke the unstoppable Mumuk meta back in the old days. Of course this created the even more broken meta of can my giant elephants stomp the good side off the board before the king systematically destroys them one by one, killing the game until the Hobbit revamp. Good tiiimes.

I just wish Rohan and The Army of Dunharrow were Historic Allies! The fact that they are only Convenient Allies, which causes them to lose their impressive Army Bonuses, feels like a slap in the face to the whole box set! I think I understand the reasoning like “both armies were helping Gondor, not each other,” but still sucks

Which book is good to add after the manual rulebook? Im totally new to this, so any advice is welcome:-)

The Armies book, so you have the profiles for nearly all the models.

@@thetrailrups5010 I’d go armies as it covers all the factions, but if you are want to specifically collect for Gondor/Rohan they’re a good option too.

Eowyn and Merry were the first models I picked up after I got the Pelennor Fields set. On display, their mounted model hangs in the back of the charging riders, while their dismounted models face off against the Witch King. I did also pick up Eomer, but yeah, I am definitely desiring to get more riders.

Would it be worth it to add a battle host and if so which one

Depends on who you're going for, the Rohan BH gets you Eomer, 6 riders and a bunch more foot soldiers. You're probably missing some better units though and would need to get some Royal guard and a couple of other heroes. The Mordor BH gets you the witch-king on foot and mounted which gives you great choices for how to use him in battle, plus 24 Mordor Orcs and 6 Wargs to go with the 36 Morranon Orcs and Troll. I'd say Mordor's BH gives you a bigger, better army to use with the only exception being that you only have the witch-king as a hero character, meaning you'll need another Mordor hero or captain to lead the force 'legally'.
