this is not what I expected, but is without question the most honest and accurate description of what happens when tapping to a lower belt... As a new blackbelt, one of the greatest revelations I've had is that black belts are not perfect. We really are human like everyone else.
The worst story I have was when I tapped a purple belt out as a white belt (I'm still white belt) and I thought I was doing good but then all the purples belt friends started making fun of him. I was like we are all just people everyone wins and loses. Ive never seen worse sour losers than in Jiu Jitsu. Just think if we acted this way when getting hamburgers at McDonald's or was in line at Walmart. I don't understand the revenge but just know it exists like road rage. I like how Dom is open with it 🙏
I had a brown belt tap me with a super tight Peruvian necktie during a warm-up flow roll. I saw nothing but red too and order had to be restored! That brown belt never got a warm-up roll out of me ever again!
it because we are human and in natural form we try to balance the lose /win war mentally ,psychologically, spiritually and physically. the "belt" isnt really the issue its the defeat and mental lack of awareness in a moment of many that we lapse once in a while,. ...it happens:)
I’m actually excited when I get tapped by a lower belt, it means they’re putting in the work and time to get better. Plus, positive reinforcement is waaaay better than negative reinforcement. I take on a paternal role, I WANT my kids to beat me, but only if they’ve earned it!
honesty.... and vulnerably discussing his momentarily lapse of judgement. As a higher belt who has tapped to lower belts on too many occasions, the feeling he is describing is very familiar to me.
Arrogance: “a manifest feeling of personal superiority in rank, power, dignity, or estimation; the exalting of one's own worth or importance to an undue degree; pride with contempt of others; presumption.” It’s kinda like the need to shit on a guy who is just being honest about how it makes almost all of us feel to lose to someone who we know we should beat.
@@UnskilledGrappler so are we practicing a martial arts that prides itself on leaving your pride arrogance and ego at the door or did that fall out of favor???
