What to Do If You Miss a Credit Card Payment 

I missed a payment, knocked my score down. It took about 8 months to gain what I had lost in credit score points.

Great info Sebby! I didn't realize that most issuers don't report if you're under the 30 days. I recently had an incident where I was a few days late because I forgot about a small balance on a card that doesn't get much use since I've discovered travel hacking. The balance was $14.61, and they assessed a late fee of $14.61. I reminded them of how I have always paid my bill on time and have never been late. I made an immediate payment on their website, assured them that I would enroll in autopay for at least the minimum payment so that this would never happen again, and they happily credited the $14.61 fee assessed. 😃

Never missed a payment. This is closely attributed with auto-pay and paying balances early. In fact, I've never had auto-pay even kick in.

I had a habit of charging my card and then waiting until the statement cut before paying. I did that with my Capital One card, but got sick right after my statement cut. I missed my payment, but made sure to pay it 4 days after the due date. I thought, for sure, it would automatically report as a 30 day late and was depressed about it. Thankfully I did some research and discovered the facts. Now I only wait until the charge posts and immediately pay it off. I am much more vigilant about paying off my cards early.

I see that Discover has a IT miles card. Don't know if you've reviewed this particular card. But it definitely seems worth it as similar to the cash back card where they double what you earn in the first year.

Carrying balances when one doesn't have the money for the initial charge in the first place is dangerous. Whenever I use my card, the purchase isn't more than what I already have. Therefore I can really play the utilization game perfectly (1-10%) and pay the remaining off well BEFORE the due date.

I never miss a payment. Got 3 credit cards & only use 2 of them, chase freedom & capital one. Both with 5k spending limit & all I ever use them is my car insurance, phone bill & internet which is about $300 a month.

With Bank of America credit cards you must make a payment first, wait for it to post, and call the day after it posts and then they can see if they can refund the fee and/or interest.

I've missed payments before. Usually by a few days mostly by just forgetting. I get the late payment fee, call them up and they usually just waive it. Doesn't happen any more since I make it a habit of paying early and turning on autopay.

I missed a payment on my Amazon Store Credit account.. missed it for 2 months. Totally forgot about the account as i have the prime card as well. I found out i had a balance on that account after credit karma put a noticed on my account and dropped my score. I paid it as soon as i caught it, along with the late fee and interest. Then called Amazon Store credit to see what my options were. They ended up refunding the late fee, interest fee and removed the late payment notice on my credit report. My credit karma removed the derogatory mark after a week. and my score went right back to normal. It never hurts to call and admit to forgetting.

Hi. In 2016 I had never had any issues with paying anything on time. I had been in a bad accident. This caused many issues. I had been placed on workers comp and my salary dropped. I fell 4 months behind on my credit card. They closed the account and destroyed my credit. Municipal credit union, Is difficult. They want no excuses and no paper work. What can I do to fix this?

I read something recently (don't remember where) that said some lenders don't like to see subprime cards on your credit report. I'm 37 years old and have missed lots of credit card & installment payments. It's always been on accident and I can't remember the last time in over a decade that I wasn't able to get the fee reversed. If you miss a payment by accident and you're within 30 days of being late, just call the bank and explain your mistake honestly. If you are in good standing with the lender be sure to point that out in your phone call along with telling them how much you value your account. Also if you don't have the money, in my experience most lenders are completely reasonable if you explain your situation prior to missing a payment; most will work with you including changing your payment date. If you continue to miss payments with a particular lender though they will likely not continue to accommodate you in the future.

On which My total outstanding authorization amount is 33,400.. my available credit limit is 17,401.. My question is the difference of 75000- (33400+17401) makes only 50,801 .. where is my rest of 24199 to from my credit card? My credit card bill is NOT SHOWING the difference of Rupees 24,199/- .. No offence, but if a gen-Y (mill.) person failed to pay up before the due-date then that's kind of a fail. We are good with computers right, so we could just wire our checking with the CrCd right. We don't miss out on paying rent and utilities, right, right, NO!! dunno what to tell you.

F my life man...I went overseas and I wasn't able to access my capital one account....didn't notice until 40 days went by 🤦‍♂️ I gave my info to a friend in the states to pay it off. It was the annual fee When I traveled everything was paid off but I didn't think of the annual fee 😭😭
