This could not have come at a better time! I brought home my first orchids this week and despite its excellent roots, the leaves of my clearance-rescue phal are so dull and sad looking. Thanks to you, I know she was likely just very underwatered in old media when I picked her up!

Thank you so much for another educational video! My very first Tolumnia (Flyer Red Cherry) just arrived today and I was so in awe after seeing one irl. I have watched your videos about these orchids, but I probably have to rewatch some, since the roots kind of scare me 😅 Such an adorable little orchid though! Also she has a flower spike! I really hope she manages to keep it. I can't wait to see her flowers 🥰

My orchids started producing smaller leaves, but the roots are healthy and I fertilize them regularly with MSU fertilizer. There's no sign of pest damage. I think the issue is the UV filter on my windows. The orchids don't have enough light, despite being next to an east-facing window. I'll put them outside during the summer, and use grow lights in cooler months to see if the orchids recover. I wanted to share my problem for others who may have UV-filtering windows.

Hey Danny! I have been wanting to collect some strange orchids, and I would love for you to maybe oneday make another video talking about some unusual orchids. By "strange", I really mean some orchids that are from small genera and have interesting fragrances or shapes, like Aeranthes grandiflora for example. Thank you for the amazing video!

Just want to thank you for recommending Besgrow sphagnum. I thought I ordered to small an amount because it was so small. It comes compacted and when soaked was excellent and clean.

Today I noticed the top leaf of my Phal Leodoro had dropped off (still fully green) 😭 I examined the orchid and couldn't see the entry point at all, but believe it has stem rot. So sad when you lose an orchid you love! I am trying to follow all the advice out there on preventing root,stem and crown rot (I even had it in a self watering pot-so no watering from above at all). Unfortunetly I have lost a few phals this way. Maybe I am up unlucky, or maybe there is something I am missing in my care? Being new to the hobby can be very frustrating, and a little sad 😓 I am very envious of you Danny, you seem to be loved back by your orchids! ❤

Might be Calcium deficiency. Calcium and Magnesium are crucial to orchid health. Good luck with your orchids!🩷

@@bettedaviseyes8563 Hi all! Thanks so much for your advice! I keep them under grow lights,so no direct sun. The calcium deficiency is an interesting thought 🤔! I do feed a full spectrum fert but had been feeding at a rather low rate (about 200ppm every second feed, and alternating silica&epsom salt or plain distilled water the other times). This was because my (new) collection is mainly young plants and neofinetia-which I understand are lighter feeders. But the Leodoro in question was fully mature- so maybe I have underfed it?

Dear @MissOrchidGirl I have enjoyed your clips. I recently repotted my wife's phalaenopsis which had dead roots and dried leaf "collars" which were strangling the plants. I used sphagnum and some coir/coconut medium to put them in glass vases. They are looking very healthy, bright green roots that were formerly silvery, and the sphagnum has perked them up too. Have I done the right thing? She hates the look-eight terrarium-like jars on the bathroom windowsill.

My Dancing Butterfly x Cumquat sent out 7 flower spikes last year with the 7th one showing up in July. I had to cut the 7th one. She was blooming herself into oblivion.

lol i feel like i know all this stuff and yet you are always so good at explaining things that i end up feeling like i learned something anyway lol. great video as always! i recently have had some smaller leaves on a few of my phals but unfortunately i am thinking at this point that it is because my neighbor sprayed weed killers near my fence 😱hopefully it resolves itself or perhaps it is some other kind of stress that i have missed but since everything else seems fine with them that is my current theory sadly..😩

In the example you showed, regarding the BIG WHITE PHAL, would you expect those yellowing leaves to return to green once you have cut the spikes and blooms?

Hi Danny! I'm not sure if you have a video on this...I have a Terminal Spike coming out of the crown of my Phal. Can you please tell me if my Phal will be okay and why this happens and if it will produce a Keiki. Right now my terminal spike has bloomed beautifully, I'm just not knowledgeable on terminal spikes. ❤❤❤

My orchid leaves are dried up. What must be the cause? I watered it after 2 weeks with spring water and spray garlic water on the leaves after a few weeks.

I have a small polychilos type hybrid that I got in some medium so decayed it was slimy. I repotted it before the roots got it bad, and there were a lot of healthy roots. It's starting to grown new leaves now and I'm curious how much bigger they'll be now that it's repotted in fresh medium and getting fertlilized regularly.

My new phal L-Hsin Venus's flowers are full of grey splotches and drying... It's not botrytis and I have no clue what it is... After watching all of your videos Danny, I still have no clue... Can somebody tell me if they had the same experience? 😢

Hey Dani! I have a question, my phal that I bought in January/February has still blooms but it's starting to grow a new leaf and roots, do I use fertilizer already? I'm thinking yes but just wondering because usually the advice is to not fertilize when they are in bloom. Thanks, I love your channel! I have gotten the orchid bug and just bought my 7th and 8th orchids just a week ago ☺️

I fertilize my orchids even when they’re in bloom. I give all of mine a weak dose of fertilizer every time I water. The only time I’ll omit it is if it’s a new orchid. I will give it plain water at the first watering, then introduce fertilizer at the next watering.

I have a problem with two of my phalaenopsis flowers. They made secondary spikes a while ago, but won't make flowers. There is clear sticky substance coming from the new spikes and they look quite rough, like a bug had eaten the spikes, but I don't have bugs at least haven't seen any. My other orchids are fine and the sick looking ones too of course apart from the new spikes. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

Hi Danny, I really need your advice please. I have a very contradictory sign for my phal orchid, it's blooming at the moment (on the second branch from last year' spike, it did not grow new spike this year) but two leaves turn yellow (It only has 4 leaves), I also found some dead roots (dry dead root not mushy) but it recently grew 3 new tiny new roots however one of the roots seems to stop growing. So I am very puzzled if my orchid is in good condition or not, what shall I do? Please help!! Many many thanks

I recently got an oncidium orchid online that came mounted on cork and infested with snails. I removed her from the cork, removed all the snails I could see, and sprayed with 3% hydrogen peroxide before repotting but I just saw another snail on her. Should I repot and spray with hydrogen peroxide again? I am worried that after being mailed and repotted once already I could do more damage by stressing her more. Please help!

some environments are more prone to thrips if theres a lot of airflow from outside or the garden

My phalenopsis Kimono grew a tiny leaf. In a few months it grew a normal sized leaf. I can't figure out why this happened. Can you explain this phenomenon.

I do give fertilizer when they’re in bloom. Just give a haft strength to what it’s recommended ( npk 20-20-20)

@@jackiesn4 thank you, I read that there’s no need to fertilize while in bloom because flowers might fall off due to fertilizing :-( and nobody wants that 🙏 But thanks anyway 👍

@@ksenijasimic4207 yes, some people do and some don’t. But i do in a light strength and i didn’t see any flowers drop off. If you don’t spray fertilizer to the flowers and not do with high strength they will be fine. Believe or not i have a phal liodoro that blooms from February until now.
