I am now aware of this new approach by DVLA and I’m in close conversation with SVTech on this as the implications are significant across the leisure and Transport industry. Stay tuned for further insight and also I hope an episode focussed on it. As for MAN I had not heard this before so thank you! Do you have anything in writing you can send me? I’ll see what I can find out too.

@@MotorhomeMatt Here is the text from the FB post: A WARNING TO ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING A NEW OR LESS THAN 2 YEAR OLD TGE AT 3500t AND CONVERTING IT - PLEASE CHECK THAT YOUR CONVERTED WEIGHT IN TOTAL IS LESS THAN SAY 3000 KG. IF YOU NEED TO UP-PLATE, MAN WILL NOT HONOUR THE WARRANTY..... I originally asked if I could up-plate to 3.9t as paper exercise, MAN said majority of warranty would be voided. Then said I would use a MAN approved company to do the factory spec front axle upgrade to 2.1t to potentially up-plate to 3.88t. MAN response: Good afternoon Carl, Hopefully, we can clear this matter up for you. The vehicle that you have, as you have stated has a front axle rated weight of 1800kg and a rear axle rating of 2100kg. This is the design weight of those axles enabling that the axles can take that amount of load, this doesn’t mean that you can just upgrade your vehicle to 3900kg from 3500kg. The factory in Germany have rated this vehicle at 3500kg and will not under any circumstances approve an upgrade to 3900kg under MAN approval regardless of what you have been advised. As the vehicle has been registered and approved by MAN at 3500kg that is what our warranty will cover as there is no official uprate to be had. So, if a customer chose to carry out any modifications which then compromise the approval over 3500kg all warranty will be void. Yes, there are companies that by changing steering racks, wishbones and suspension parts maybe able to uprate a vehicle above MAN’s 3500kg but this is outside of the manufactures remit and is not advised or approved by us as the manufacture. That company would then need to have the vehicle replated. This matter from MAN’s point of view is now closed.

@MotorhomeMatt Wow I'm glad this came to light now, as I was thinking of doing the minimalistic upgrade to 3,650kg thinking it was worth £300 to halve my Tax Implication, as now just gone up again to £335 🙈 All my pal's have already done it a while ago, I feel sorry for anybody who's already in the pipeline.

A Cassoa inspection is now every 3 years. I suspect we could have achieved GOLD sooner had the inspection taken place earlier. But the status is achieved across what they call a ‘points matrix.’ At our site we have remote monitored cctv, battery and solar backups, movement alerts out of hours or during hours if we need it on all cameras. Out gate is highly maintained with evidenced service history as is the cctv and fire extinguishers. We’ve carried out a regular fire safety inspection and risk assessment and we also carry our regular health and safety assessments. All evidenced. The assessment was several hours long and I learnt a lot. We also made some other improvements on the assessors recommendation. So you own a storage site too? That’s very disappointing to hear! I think we all anticipate a limited response from the police as it’s regularly reported how under resourced they are. Our own force are referred to by its staff as Avon and Some Kit! But I would have a high expectation of a strong response from my tracking company. The stats for recovery with a tracker fitted are strong and evidenced so I would hope your comment is a minority situation, but that doesn’t help your friend! Thanks for commenting

@MotorhomeMatt I would have to agree with you Matt, think we use the same company " Global Telemetrics" I had it fitted at White Arches, (Now Spinney) on my Adria Matrix from new, cost me £699+++£17 per month, supposed be one of the best. I do test their response occasionally, like turning key cards off whilst away, and they do call me regularly to check It's me in the bus 🙏 Not sure If it was nicked I wouldn't go and find it 1st though, as they tend to park them up quite near by for a couple day's to check if tracker fitted . . .

The problem is your tracker goes off the tracking company informs you and the police, but you will get no help from the police, we have fitted a £50 tracker loaded it up with a £40 SIM card annually all works fantastic, any problem with the motorhome moving we will get it sorted DIY policing
