Asymptomatic hernias are not dangerous. Check the USPSTF recommendations for tumor screening. No need for physician involvement in the absence of material concerns.
I went to a female pediatrician until 9th grade. My mother was good friends with this doctor and stayed in the exam room for the whole physical. Genital exam was very quick, but was weird with mother in the room and she saw everything. For next high school physical I went to a male family doctor who did a thorough scrotal exam because I have a grade three varicocele and yes I got an erection. So embarrassing.
My cousin got prostate cancer due to him not being comfortable getting himself checked. No matter how old you are, if you see signs get checked it can save your life
When I was 8, my female babysitter molested me several times. She would pull my pants down to look at me. They she would play with my penis. Consequently, I'm not sure if I could handle a pelvic exam by a woman, especially since the exam would be very similar to what my babysitter did. Have you ever had a patient with a similar history?
I'm old. In my day at a private school about a dozen or so boys were lined up at a go and told to drop their pants and the doc with a light on his forhead just went along the row. Nobody gave any thought to privacy. That was just tge way it was.

Of course. In fact, your child has the right not be examined down there at all. However, if they’re going out for certain sports, then that might be a requirement. But it would be the child’s choice if it was worth it.
My experiences have varied so much over the years. The thing I can't help wondering is why different doctors would have different requirements. Like, why do only some have you undress, some have you put on a gown and others don't, and some don't examine your genitalia at all? If it really matters, why doesn't everyone do it the same way?Fortunately every exam I've had as an adult has been fully clothed with no genital exam, but it would be nice not to be kept guessing.
OK. But what if the doctor is _male_ and he’s smirking? Which is worse? But even more than this, maybe none of these doctors is actually smirking. Maybe you’re just overly self-conscious. Or maybe you have insecurities about yourself with women in general. After watching a bunch of videos like this, I discovered that there are people who get professionally paid to be patients, both men and women. Basically when students are going through med school, first they practice on mannequins. But this training only goes so far. After that, there are specially trained people from all walks of life (like musicians or whatever you can think of) who get paid to have a pelvic exam. Their job is called a “Standardized Patient.” (No minors, of course.) But just like there are people who will go and sit naked for artists who are learning to draw, there are people who ‘donate their bodies to science’ while they’re still alive. I’m guessing any med student who’s gone through this training has gotten over smirking at patients.

I had several female doctors over the years and recently went tourgent Care got a fixed drug reaction that causes lesion on the head of the penis I had a whip it out for the nurse then whip it out for the doctor both for female and they are very professional doctor even snapped a picture to send it to the dermatologist and put it in my file and then I went and saw the dermatologist and she was female and the nurse was female how to whip it out for them too and she ended up doing a biopsy right below the head of the penis where the circumcision scars at very professional and very good at what she did I've had both male and female doctors over the years I don't mind either or

I don’t know if this would help adolescents at all, but since wearing masks for COVID is so commonplace, maybe a teenager might feel less embarrassed if they wore a mask for the exam. This is to say, with their face hidden, then the genitals can’t be associated with a face. I dunno. It’s just an idea. Also, after my own horrendous experience during a “male physical,” where they more or less forced me to wear a thin paper gown, I sort of thought of purchasing my own gown. That way it would be imbued with my energy. I wouldn’t lose my sense of autonomy. This is _my_ domain. Modeled consent language also needs to include making sure everyone knows the patient (e.g. child) can withdraw consent at any time. Just because we’re at the doctor’s office, don’t let that become a form of social pressure.
These exams are unnecessary unless there is a problem. It is the fathers job to teach their sons what is normal what is and what is not. Masks will not help limiting exposure will and the gender of the doctor should be the same as the childs unless the child wants the opposite gender. Hernia and testical exams can be preformed without removing clothing. As a autistic child I was more afraid to actually show my genitals than them being felt it is way less embarrassing and demoralizing. The only time I did need to have my genitals actually seen is after I hit puberty and my erections were painful. It turned out I had a complication from the circumcision I didn't know about till after puberty. He wanted to preform surgery but I refused which is my right because I believe it would cause more problems then benefits. Men are more professional and understanding when it comes to male issues. They know it is embarrassing and work as quick as possible. Females have no remote idea about that except religious ones which will make sure the patient is covered as much as possible.

A female intern or staffer. So two women present while he was undressed and getting his nuts pulled. Don't think that's fair, at all. It's plain wrong. Imagine the reverse scenario?

I never had a prostate exam until I was 18. My mother was certainly not in the room with me! But, I did tell her about it afterwards. Doctors don't do those anymore.
My bf went to urgent care to get a hernia check because he felt awful down there after lifting something heavy. Female nurse on duty. But then SHE needed a chaperone in the room apparently, and it was a female staffer or assistant! So there's two women in the room inspecting his nuts and telling him to turn and cough etc. Like how about a chaperone with the same gender as the patient??
I’ve heard that females doctors/nurses always call for chaperones, while males don’t. Like it’s so unfair on men, because chaperones tend to be women. Like 1 women is enough but having 2 women look at our nuts is just embarrassing

My parents took me to the doctor every year but thankfully I was only required to get a full exam before 5th grade and before high school. Well I'm sure I did when I was younger than that but I don't remember what it was like before then. At 10 I hadn't started puberty yet of course. They told me to strip down to my underwear and put on the gown but for some reason it didn't occur to me that the Dr would check my genitals. He just pulled my underwear back and looked but didn't touch. But I said "what ya doin?" 😂😂 He said "just checking you underneath." Well at my high school physical I knew that he would be checking my genitals. He had a female med student with him and of course when he pulled my underwear back I had an erection. And again he didn't touch anything down there. I can't imagine if I had an erection and he was touching my penis or testicles.

Male doctors I had no problems with because they only check if there is a problem. I had to see a urologist at age 13 because of erection pain that caused a curvature. I allowed the doctor to bring in a male student. Well apparently when I was circumcised they took to much skin. So now I am having to regrow that skin back.

In doing more research on this subject, I discovered in the state of New York, teenagers have almost complete autonomy over their choices about what medical care they’re going to consent to and even confidentiality from their parents.
@@KathleenHemaThese exams are very unnecessary and unethical. It is the fathers job and responsibility to teach their sons about their genitals not a doctor. The only time a doctor is nessary is when something is wrong and the exam should be preformed by a male doctor unless the child wants a female doctor but the father should be in the room at all times. A license and a medical degree doesn't mean anything when it comes to protecting children against predators. There are many predators in the medical field and many of them are women taking advantage of young boys that don't know any better. The father doesn't have to look but must stay in the room at all times. A hernia and testical exam do not require you to actually see the genitals. You can quite literally put the hand down the shorts or underwear of the patient and feel for abnormalities. That would be better for younger patients because they may be more uncomfortable showing then having them felt. That is how many older conservative doctors do it and will not actually look unless they feel something wrong.
From my understanding from our pediatrician, there is no real sexual health checkup for children with a female reproductive system until their first GYN appointment. And that could be anywhere between 13-18 years of age. But this is a great topic for another video!
Actually as a grown man, I just had a “routine physical” which ended up involving an exam of the genitalia. But honestly, this whole part of the exam was extremely uncomfortable. I found just putting on the paper gown distressing. My doctor had been prescribing me fluoxetine for the past two years and then eventually threatened to cut me off if I didn’t consent to a “routine physical.” In my mind, all she needed to do was check on me to make sure she wouldn’t be breaking any rules by continuing to prescribe this antidepressant. So when I saw the paper gown, I was already uncomfortable. And I hadn’t bothered to research what was going to take place ahead of time either such as watching videos like this. So I reluctantly put on the paper gown but left my underwear on. But after the doctor had examined my ears, nose throat and chest, she noticed I was still wearing my underwear and instructed me to remove it. So, here she was, holding me over a barrel about the Prozac, and me not really prepared to undergo a genital examination. And I didn’t find out until later that I could have refused any part of the examination I was uncomfortable with. In fact, this encounter was so distressing that it brought back the memories of the physical I had to undergo in my teens. So, yes, it’s very constructive for you to have put out this video for today’s teens. Just because we are male, doesn’t mean we are any less sensitive about these issues. And if someone’s child isn’t ready, he’s not ready.
It can be quite intimidating to go to the doctor for any sort of check up let alone a pap smear or a prostate exam. It can be even more difficult if the physician doesn't clearly explain why certain exams need to be performed nor informed consent and refusal.

It seems to me that, unless the reason for any part of the exam is clearly explained and the right of refusal plainly stated, then no informed consent has been given, and the doctor is guilty of an ethics violation. In the case noted above, the implied threat that a refusal to allow the genital examination would result in a loss of a needed prescription is coercive, and, therefore, unethical. This is especially true since the patient had left his underwear on, a clear sign that he did not consent to an examination of the pubic area.

Actually this WHOLE issue of the lack of consent led me to ultimately file a police report against this doctor not only for sexual assault, but drug-facilitated sexual assault and performing an exam under false pretenses or fraudulently misrepresenting the exam as having a professional purpose. Before this doctor, I never even knew what Narcissistic Personality Disorder was. I eventually laid my hands on a copy of the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (“POST”) guide entitled “ADULT/ADOLESCENT GUIDE on SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATIONS.” When this female doctor conducted this physical exam which had been utterly coerced, she had a FEMALE assistant in the room as well. The doctor never introduced this person to me or otherwise gained my consent for her presence. I didn’t know what her credentials were, if any. This was a risky-dink clinic and no one has a name badge. They never introduce themselves over the phone or even try to ascertain to whom they’re speaking. The whole behavior patterns appear to be to keep the patient off balance, especially male patients who are constantly subjected to passive-aggressive behavior and attitudes, like just asking who you’re talking to over the phone is like you’re asking them for their phone number (to go on a date). Like, “What’s with the attitude?” After performing the respiratory and cardiac exams, the doctor had me lie down on the table to examine my abdomen. Fine, no problem. I was still wearing my underwear. However, after this, the doctor lifted up a portion of the flimsy paper gown on the left side and noticed I was still wearing my underwear, which she then told me to remove while she and her assistant would “turn around.” Try as hard as I can, I cannot remember the ACTUAL language this doctor used, but when she told me to remove my underwear, it wasn’t phrased like a question. It was more like an order I needed to obey. In grappling with the aftermath of this horrendous experience, I have had to look inside myself and wonder why was so easily manipulated … and by someone more than 15 years younger than me. I think this was an additional factor of the embarrassment and humiliation which I believe was intentional. So upon getting back on the exam table, the doctor then just reaches into the femoral artery without saying a word. Continuing on without saying anything, she then starts “examining” the left testicle lifting up the paper gown more and more until I was completely exposed to this other woman whose identity I didn’t know nor whose presence I had given consent for. During this exam, it appeared to me the doctor was tempting me to get an erection in front of the assistant, possibly to induce even further embarrassment and/or humiliation. Because I hadn’t given any consent, this exam was excruciatingly long. Like, “WHEN is this going to end?” PANIC, TUNNEL VISION, DISTRESS. From the time we’re boys growing up to be men, we’re taught to TOLERATE just about anything and everything without even complaining. And I lost my voice to protest. I didn’t know what was happening or why. I couldn’t see the assistant’s face. This situation was HORRIFIC. In trying to grapple with this experience, I later learned that any genital exam on a male should be performed while standing if he’s ambulatory. That is, hernias are all the more difficult to assess for while the patient is standing. Even if a patient has a real hernia, it could totally retract whilst lying down. Thus, this female doctor, feeling my genitals was in dominant position, looking down at me but also stood in dominance over me from a psychosocial perspective along with her female medical assistant who just did everything she was told. She wasn’t there to “chaperone” the exam, but only to serve as social REINFORCEMENT of the doctor’s DOMINANCE over a male patient. Between the prescription for the Prozac and these TWO women assuming dominance over me, I had been overpowered. At the time, I didn’t even know about the freeze and fawn responses built into our limbic system. There’s a lot more to this story I won’t go into here, but it seems like this doctor was using her superior medical knowledge and experience and the art of sexual touch to actually reprogram me at a very deep level. That is to bypass my normal cognitive function and hijack the part of the brain below that, to traumatize me intentionally, to make me subservient to her. I know it sounds bizarre, but after all the stages I’ve been through (including spending an hour on the RAINN hotline for sexual assault), these are the conclusions I’ve come to. Despite the distress, I was still drawn in by some gravitational force. This doctor seemed to have mapped me out completely in order to hijack my mind for purposes I can only guess at. Ultimately I was able to get out of that clinic and over to a major medical system where everyone is professional. Even though most of the providers there are female, I don’t feel that weirdness from the rinky-dink clinic. My new doctor is also female, but she’s totally professional. No mind games. She’s just like the male doctor I had from years ago.

Hi there I'm sorry that kind of happened to me a while ago except we were in probably 7th grade and we were all getting out check ups and mid way mine he just pulled down my underwear (I had absolutely no idea this was going to happen)first told me to bend over and my little 12 year old brain was like ok what would he want to do and yup his finger straight up there my poor 12 year old body was shocked I had no idea doctors could even do that I thought a physical was just examined every but not there so after he took his finger out he asked me to lie on the bed and of course I say yes and without asking he just removes my undies and starts spreading my 🍑 apart apparently in case of cancer then her asked if he can examine my 😺 and I had no idea I could refuse so trembling I say yes and he sticks this thing up there to widen my 😺 then after five minutes of spreading it and putting his finger in it he finally says okay your all good 👍 well thanks I hoped this made you feel better

Many male doctors will use locker room talk with teen boys as well. Also unlike female doctors they will only check if their is a problem and not check for the sake of checking

@DEATH14269 I will have to disagree with you. Boys are more comfortable with male doctors because you have to remember boys are uncomfortable around girls before puberty. Male doctors are at least in my opinion a lot more professional about it and only show what needs to he shown or touch what needs to be touched. For example as a kid I wasn't comfortable having my testicles looked at but was fine having them touched. I have extreme religious modesty to the point any women I am not in a relationship with I cannot show them my genitals at all. I have had surgery before and kept my underwear on and was fully awake during surgery so I know they were still on. The best I can do is a older women late 40s on up if they only have women. As a kid I absolutely hated females doctors I felt like I was being sexually assaulted every time so I resorted to violence and I was a very large strong kid so I could actually do a number on somebody( from toddler to 8 ). I am autistic so I am sensitive to touch as well it takes extreme trust and I don't trust women in the medical field. When I was a kid I wasn't even comfortable taking my shirt off.
I've always had female doctor's also and feel comfortable with them. I also worked for over 20 years as a life or figure model and never had an erection being naked in front of people. In fact the artists always would ask for me because I was professional and my only concerns were getting paid and what was best for the artists!

Yes that is normal. Pre cum is a natural lubrication that men make. It comes from the prostate. However it is ment to saturate in the foreskin and maintain the lubrication throughout sex. However circumcised men still make pre cum but it is not as effective at lubricating the organ during sex.
I’m circumcised but “restored my foreskin” and am at coverage index 9. You would need to pull back the shaft skin that covers the entirety of the glans so technically the head of the penis is not already exposed like you say

I do 1 on 1 consultations with parents or parents and their child to discuss a variety of sexual health topics if you're interested. But generally speaking, let the health provider know this before the appointment and ask them to spend some time discussing beforehand what needs to be checked and why it needs to be checked with your daughter.

@@laoise8134 It's awful that she had to experience that from a physician! So many times health care providers are trying to just "get the job done" that they forget to ask for consent and provide the education needed to help the patient understand why they need to examine different parts of the body. Definitely try to speak with the physician beforehand and also let your daughter know that she can ask as many questions as she would like in order to understand what's happening. And ofc if she doesn't feel comfortable after learning about it - she can voice that concern and then schedule another appointment at a later time. You're doing great trying to prepare her for this!!
