This is one of the best electric plug-in vehicle videos that I have ever watched myself I'm thinking about it but have not made the decision I will be making this in the next three to four years thank you very much for the video again outstanding thanks
LOL! My wife just mentioned the wrangler 4xE so here we are, 2 years later ( it's August 25,2023) and I showed her this video of yours. She does it! Great. Shame we haven't got the 4xE in the UK 🙄 So thank you Brandon!
You cannot roll over the tax credit at the end of the year. It is very much a use it or lose it. It’s also important to note that “what you pay” is not necessarily “what you owe.” If your total tax liability is 7500 then you can take advantage of this non-refundable credit. Edit: a word
Wait does that mean we can't submit forbtheb 7500 credit during next years tax season if we brought the jeep this year? I'm new to vehicle tax credits, sorry for the elementary question
For the public charger, you went to fast charging installation (Level 3). The 4xe is not fast charging enabled. The battery is too small so is the onboard charger
Check with your local utility provider for a rebate. I purchased the Juice Box 40A from my utility provider for $350 after instant rebate they provided. Also, they offered a $1,000 cash rebate for buying or leasing a PHEV, of which the 4xe qualifies. Love your videos Brandon; keep em coming!
Great video! One point to add is the 30% federal tax credit (up to $1000 tax credit) on an electrical charger product and/or install. So, for your $600 charger, you can get a $240 tax credit and an additional x amount on the install if you have someone professionally do it for you.
Great video! Everytime I full the Gaz tank I restart my trip. If I do 50/50 Electric/Gas consumption I get roughly get 35-40 MpG (7.5 to 8 Liters / 100KM) ..my best was a 60% Gaz consumption that got me 5.6L/100KM witch equals 50 MPG
I bought a 2023 a few weeks ago. Wish I would have seen this but I still would have got it. I love this car. I only live 2.6 miles from work. I haven't used any gas all week. I would rather have a hybrid than full electric. Also if you lease, the $7500 comes off at the beginning or at least it the dealer I went to. This is the 3rd vehicle I have got from them. They have always been good to me. In the 2023, I don't have to press the max regen button every time I get in. It stays until I take it off.
you can't afford to pay the cost of gas for a 5 mile round trip? lol...The huge amount of mechanical complexity is what turns Wranglers into wallet drainers and makes them quite frankly very unreliable. I cannot imagine how unreliable five or ten years down the road will be these hybrids, and the upkeep costs will eat up any anticipated gas savings!
@@fredtello during the week I spend zero on gas. Not just to work. When this was wrote 7 MONTHS AGO the gas prices kept climbing. A wrangler is not bought for its full economy but I still wouldnt be paying to go to work and back (and home for lunch) not to mention errands around townb no matter how high the price of fuel went. 7 months later and I still love this car and have zero regrets.
I'm leaning toward getting one of these because most of my driving consists of very short drives of 1 to 2 miles within the community I live in. Those short drives are really hard on an ICE. Some people use golf carts to get around but I refuse to be seen in one of them! Thanks for the info, it's really helpful. I really like the blue color of yours so that will be my first choice! I go to the dealer tomorrow!
I got a red Jeep Wrangle Rubicon 4xe. The 4xe (since it’s a hybrid) has blue trim outlines and you can’t really see the blue trim as it’s the same color as his awesome blue wrangler. My first choice was this blue also. Instead, I went with Firecracker Red, and got the Rubicon. My rubicon letters on the hood have blue trim on the outside edges of each of the letters, and my jeep logos also have blue trim around the outside of them. I am very happy with my firecracker red!! A lot of my driving is also short distances around town, and to date, I’ve driven 601 miles on the original tank of gas. My average so far is 28 mpg, with 346 electric miles and 255 gas miles. I have 1/4 of a tank of gas left. I plan to use premium gas.
@@cindywilson3932 As it turned out I didn’t get a 4xe. Since I’m a retired employee of Chrysler I get an employee discount, but they have excluded this model from eligibility. Also I was interested in leasing and Jeep had a great lease offer on the Sahara 4xe, but dealer participation was required. The dealers near me wouldn’t honor the deal so I went in a different direction. Your Rubicon sounds great and I hope you enjoy it!
75% of my driving is under 20 miles round trip. I am in the market early next year for an SUV .. been considering Bronco, Defender, and new Tundra. Stumbled upon the Jeep 392.. which led me to the 4xe. Very tempted and have never owned or considered a Jeep before. I have driven them as rentals and enjoyed them.
Tomorrow is the day. Picking up my 4xe Rubicon in Hydro Blue with black top. If all goes well and as planned the $7500 is my down payment with the 24 month lease that Im getting. Car dealers are notorious for "surprises". Hopefully there will only be good surprises or none would be fine. Trading in my 19 Mojito Sahara. I'll really miss the color and almost forgot tonight to detach Brandon's Mojito flashlight. Few got it. I'll update after I get home with my new baby. Thanks Brandon for all your amazing 4xe knowledge.
@@ScottsReviews Other then the dealer trying to sneak in at the last minute a $1200 extended warrenty and service contract, it went great. I caught it before I signed. So I have a gorgeous hydro blue Rubicon. I was only able to afford it because I was able to use the $7500 "tax credit" as a down payment on the 24 month lease. My first Jeep was $9995 out the door and I thought that was insane back then. Sad to see my Mojito Sahara go, but love the hydro blue just as much. Thanks for asking.
I bought my mopar same as the Jeep class 2 in March and it was $621. I live in a town that I can go every where on a charge. I'm one of the guys that still hasn't put gas in it. It's still where it was when I got it. I also got the Tazer it lets you get rid of most of the annoying factory presets. I can lock the rear diff in 2 hi and both in four hi. Makes a big difference in the snow and sand. CW
Great Information ! ...A Real help in deciding what jeeps next ...I like the fact you point out leasing may get you $ 7,500 as a down payment ill be looking to replace my wife's lease in 3 months I will be looking at the jeep as my JK is a heavy off road jeep and...ITS MINE MINE MINE !
Thank you for this informative video. A 4xe would fit my normal driving perfectly. I only have a 16 mile round trip drive to work, and the roads I use have a speed limit of 45 mph. There's a bank of EV charging stations at work, and I have a 240v NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage at home.
Too much of a hassle just to drive from point a to point b. It doesn’t seem a smart investment of a considerable amount of money just to drive a couple of miles around one’s household. Thanks for the video ! Very clear and straightforward
4:30 91 octane or higher recommended for optimal fuel economy and performance. The turbocharged engine will dumb itself down with the knock sensor if you use 87, until the knock sensor fails and then you have problems.
@@BrandonHaneline weirdly, it's in the Canada Specifications for 2021 4×e. Don't know why the U.S. specs ignore the turbocharger. I can't imagine you'd get 270hp from the engine with 87 octane, but the vast majority of situations don't require combined 375hp. The 2.0L turbo installed in other cars call for 91+ octane recommended.
@@N_Wheeler knock sensor failure has nothing to do with the the octane you choose, its litteraly a microphone that listens for pre detonation in the engine to change the ignition timing.
Your videos are amazing! I am thinking of getting a 4xe, and your videos are helping me in making my final decisions! I love how you make videos for almost every single question we may have before buying a 4xe. Keep up the good work! You earned a new subscriber!
@@BrandonHaneline I'm thinking of just going with the white because I'm thinking of getting the Rubicon, and I think the black and white compliments each other very well along with the blue edges :)
You are lucky to gett free charging station, whe have to pay for evrey Power when whe loading up, so i charge at Home and Work for almost free, i have 20000km made in one Year and 18000km where elektro driving, so this mean in a City you drive extremly cleen just if you go fare it is on gas, my Plug in drive with 4.5 to 6.0 liter of gas. Your Jeep cost in my Country fully loadet almost 95000 Dollar, badley. Regards from Switzerland and thanks for your top info, i like it, see you❤👍
In Canada you can lease or buy and you get 8000$ rebate right off at the dealer depending on how many years you put the payments on , plus you get 600$ back in you install a charging station at home and 300$ back from your municipality . What I'm real wondering is about Cold start in winter....here in Quebec Canada winter night can go down to -40C how will my batteries be affected ? I'm guessing I'll lose charge faster but for the charging? guess charging station 220V will be a must ? because at 110V and 12-14hr charge time will be useless if it needs power to keep batteries temperature.
Hi Brandon, Well, I got it. Fairly long stressful day overall. I like the dealer, and the sales people there are better then most, however, there is always and I mean always that one last little surprise when you enter the business managers office at the end. The lease all of a sudden was $40 higher then the planned figure I have been working with since the ordering process. Well, wouldn't you know it, the business manager said, OH I thought you wanted the extended warranty and service contract for $1200. Um, no. So now my payment went down below anticipated payment so I was able to drive home in my gorgeous Rubicon 4xe. It is gorgeous. Electrician comes next week- hopefully. Thanks for your support!!!. :)
I drove it all over Virginia and on hwy I only got 21 MPG which Sucks! And 20-30 miles around town on electric is nothing - So on the hwy it sucks milage wise and not enough battery to use unless you are a shut-in and never leave your house - This car makes Zero sense! My 2018 Equinox gets 38 MPG on highway and 24 around town and it’s 3x the size. - the car is ok and looks good, but the numbers don’t come close to making sense.
I've been back and forth on this for a while, but your videos have helped immensely, thank you. Placed my order today - 4xe JLUR. Question, If I were to have a road trip planned, would it be more efficient to drive on the highway in esave mode on the highway, and switch to electric/hybrid in town at slower speeds? Does Max Regen mode put a load on the drivetrain? or is that just when letting off the accelerator?
I can’t finish deciding if the whole charging is worth for 25 miles. Sometimes I think yes for close commute and then I go back to no because of the charging waiting period and trying to find charging station comparable to this vehicle. I can’t make up my mind if I should get 4Xe or regular gas.
I own a Jeep '17 wrang/sport, but now I'm not going to consider the 4xe after watching this video...21 miles per chg? Lol! I thought it was 81 for some reason...no way..waiting for the full EV in '25. It's all good, my '19 Chevy Camaro 2ss kicks my Jeep's ass anyhow!
The standard is quickly becoming 40 miles. 2024 X5 50e gets 40. Rav4 prime gets 42. Escape phev gets 37. Outlander phev gets 38. XC60 gets 35. 21 miles is absolutely unacceptable, and believe me. This is not some kind of design choice Jeep made. Or some kind of compromise in order to improve something else. It is just lack of technology. Future wrangler 4 by e will get 35. Do not buy the current model.
Tesla charger does not work because Tesla charges $$ when you plug the car in that is tied with your Tesla account that has your bank account or debit credit info
Sweet that's one kool jeep I must say. That charging system is a tune cost for my Audi I use to have. But Question does the radio have the jeep sound or motor sound coming out of it or it doesn't do that?
Great video. I’m wondering if you ever got the Tesla -> J1772 adapter to work. People report that it can work - they seem to wait 10-30s after connecting the adapter before connecting it to the Jeep.
What a great video. Thank you for taking the time to do this. How much on ave does it cost to charge from 0% to 100% at home? Is it more expensive to use the 14hr charge vs the 2hr charge? Thank you again so much!
Easy to calculate.... Take the size of the battery (17kwh) and multiply by the per kwh cost of your electricity. Mine is .12 cents per kwh, so it will cost ~ $2.04.
@@mowcowbell mines is .12kwh like yours. Is the $2.04 is for every 2 hours you charge it? How much would it be for the 12 hours charge at home? That way I can calculate how much I would spend a day and times that by 7 to see how much I spend a week. Thank you
21 MPG is lame lol same as non E. They need to make them lighter with aluminum body and parts. Got me a regular 2013 Sahara and it gets about 20MPG lol the E hybrig its a joke! full electric should be better
Bronco looks very promising. Just check how the interior materials, dash, handles fit together.. there are some weak spots you can check on the spot. Very nice screen though.
Why is the max regeneration “off” by default? I sometimes forget to push the switch until the regenerative braking doesn’t kick in. Jeep needs to upgrade this in a firmware update ASAP!
Hi Brandon! Love your vids. I got my 4xe a few weeks after you and am loving it. Out of curiosity, have you noticed any rattling when driving on rough roads that sound like they are coming from the driver’s side B pillar? I know you’ve stripped the car down before, so I’m curious to see if you’ve experienced it, and may possibly have a fix.
@@BrandonHaneline No, I’ve already resolved that issue. It sound as if it is coming from the driver’s side B pillar, either where the seat belt is, or the roll bar. It literally sounds like there is a screw loose that is bouncing around. I’ve even tightened the roof and freedom tops with no luck.
🤣 he really went to a tesla charging station! 😳 This guy. That's a great thing about tesla, quick charging 20 to 30 min, all the statuon 99.9% work, and you know where you need to exactly go to for a charge.
How do I find out about how long the tax credit will be available? We are considering placing an order for a 2022 4xe but have been told our order could possibly be pushed to a 2023 and we are worried by the time we get it the tax credit may not be available anymore.
To clarify your dealer let you use the fed tax credit as a down payment on purchasing your 4xe? Curious if others have had experience with that as well?
@@BrandonHaneline I see. makes sense since they received the credit as the title holder. Still great to know! Huge bargaining chip I didn’t even consider
@@BrandonHaneline one more question though - I thought I heard you mention in a previous video that you purchased the vehicle did you end up buying your lease?
Great video! I have a question I was shopping for my first 4xE 2022 Wrangler however dealers asked $14k extra for market adjustment price on the top of msrp. I back off the market because of that none sense. What do you think? Thanks in advance.
Not all dealers are raping customers for "market condition premiums". I'm in Canada and out of 10 dealers in range, 3 of them aren't marking it up. Just walk into a dealer and tell them you are ready to purchase, and that you are not paying a premium. If they come back with any answer other than "sure", turn around and walk out. Also highly consider an auto broker if you don't know the in-n-outs of the deal. It will save you thousands. They work for you, not the stealerships.
hi Brandon, many thanks for all the informations! one thing is not perfectly clear for me is regarding the use of the car as an overlanding rig : is it possible to recharge the battery ,at least partly, to enjoy the electric ride on trails when you are in remote places for 2 weeks and you can't plug the car? how the recharge mode is acting without the pluging? is it possible or in the end are you driving a thermic car with 600 pounds heavier than the regular one?
Ya know I have a 2012 dodge challenger 80k on the ODO, along with a 2014 Chrysler 300 both get 22 23 mpg. I've slowed down, and I mainly drive on the freeway, not a red light racer. These are the greatest cars on earth to me, reason both are paid off. These electrics are more than a pain in the @$$. This thing probably cost between 50 to 60k with a 1000.00 a month payment. Good luck if this thing brakes down especially finding a good mechanic. It's a trip to the dealership, they will be the only ones who can work on these vehicles. Also the national grid is old, and bigger cities are having brown outs. This country does not have the capability to charge all of these e cars once everyone starts driving them, good luck with that...
That’s exactly my concern that the mechanics in the dealerships will not be so knowledgeable on fixing this type of vehicles and it will take constant trips to the dealership to fix issues. Also, there not being charging stations comparable with this vehicle.
Yes it is. The wiring is rated for 32 amps. If you could increase the voltage then it would be Posible. But none of the 4xe components are designed to with stand higher than 220 Volts.. 220 volts x 32 amps is 7000 watts multiple that 2.5 and guess what you get 17,500watts or 17.5 kw. Conveniently the exact same size as the 4xe battery.
In North Carolina we are at 12.5 cents per kilowatt. With the 17 kW battery it puts me around $60 per month. The key is to find charging stations that don’t cost anything where ever you may go.
@@BrandonHaneline Mine has been about the same as yours, but for the savings in gas I have had I'm good! Did my first fill up in 7 weeks and I used to put at least $45 every week into my previous wrangler. Loving my 4xe!!
Hey, i have a question about the pedestrian warning system: Hey, do you know what happens when you just unplug the speaker at the back? Does the front one turn off too?
Ive been thinking of buying one instead of my Bronco mostly because driving to and from work would get very costly. Im wondering how much battery in hybrid mode would be used if my drive one way would be 75 miles.
Hi Brandon, I saw your video trying to charge in a Tesla Destination Charger. Where you able to continue that testing? I ordered my Jeep 4XE and have a Tesla Charger at home and would like to purchase the adapter that converts Tesla to J1771 can you advise?
I bought the "Tesla-Tap 50amp Tesla to J-1772 Adapter" and it worked with my Tesla charger in my garage with my 4XE. Iwww.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TP9VSQM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use the teslatap (www.amazon.com/TeslaTap-AMP-Tesla-J-1772-Adapter/dp/B07TP9VSQM) adapter daily with my 4xe and Tesla wall charger at home with no problems ! The lectron adapter in this video did the same though (so I got it back to amazon)
What is the max amps of charge for the vehicle? Also, a hack, for those of use that have owned Chevy volt Gen 2, the level 1 charger that comes with the volt is actually rated at level 2, cheaper alternative.
@@abqcrutch I mean, it comes with a level one plug and adapter, so you can charge it without buying anything . I found charging all night for 20 plus miles of range a bit annoying so the level two is more convenient, but not critical.

The juice box link you recommended show two different models $10 difference. One said says 32 hardwired and the other says 32 amp 14-50 plug. I am going to have this installed by an electrician so which one do you recommend? Thanks for your help
Basically one is hard wired to the house wiring and the other is like a plug in kinda like a dryer or a oven. I personally would choose the plug version
Good job. Very informative. Learn a lot from your tube channel… I will stick with my diesel wrangler and gladiator.
