This video highlights the different courses/subjects and expectations that are attached during the 1st semester of medical school at the University of Pécs. Hopefully this can help people to feel more prepared before their 1st semester begins and also give prospective medical students an idea of what they would be in for.

I found your channel and you are doing a great job helping the future doctors💓 I really want to study in Hungary but I'm confused between the universities as pecs debrecen semmelweis and Szeged university offer English programs so can you tell me which one to choose acc to the city and the campus life as you know more about it It would be really helpful for me if you answer ✨
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 9 месяцев назад
Thank you! It is difficult for me to give you an exact answer but I will try break it down. Semmelweis has the highest ranking so in theory the degree from their holds you in the best stead however, I believe that all 4 options are good enough to get you to where you want to go after. Of course Semmelweis is also in Budapest which is the capital city and it will probably provide you with the best social life if that is something you prioritise. The other 3 (especially Pécs) are smaller cities where there is less going on and less people but it does mean there are less distractions. Pécs has a reputation for having a difficult first 2 years compared to the others so I have heard of people who transferred to Szeged as a result but I managed to get through them with hard work. All and all I would say it comes down to you (what kind of person you are) because the education and degree is relatively similar when looking at all 4. I would base your decision on the cities…find the city that works best for you. Research things to do in each and whatever else that you can find. Sorry for sitting on the fence a bit but hope this helps!

Hey there Cam, I wanted to ask that are the professors for medicine in Hungary good? especially with the language barrier thing. Also do you think that the language barrier deprives you of knowledge during clinics? ( Love your stuff btw)
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 11 месяцев назад
Hey, the professors are pretty good for the most part. Most of them have got a really good grasp on the English language so that isn’t a problem but like any University/School, there will always be some professors who are not the best. We do have the option to shuffle our classes and pick a specific seminar/lab teacher if we would like, which is a nice option to have. In terms of the language barrier in the clinics…that is the main negative I can bring up as an international student studying in Hungary. We do learn basic Hungarian in the first 2 years of our degree which is focused on the Medical Interview and common answers that patients tend to give but it is limiting. You cannot have a proper conversation with the patients and you rely on the doctors or Hungarian colleagues for translation. I do also feel like we lack practical skills at the university as there seems to only be a strong focus on the theory. However once it is all said and done and we have the degree, I think we can make up for some of our deficiencies whilst in residency. It might be a bit tough for the first month or so but then we can adapt and we will at least have a good theoretical foundation behind us. (Thank you for the positive feedback)

Thank you so much Cam 👏👏👏 Just one question, are the end of semester exams in first year oral or written??? Thank you once again, this has been very helpful.
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 11 месяцев назад
No problem and yes, the finals in the 1st semester are all oral exams. Most of them are oral exams in the 2nd semester as well but chemistry may be written if the system stays as is.

Thanks for your information But as a first year student Is there any platform wich i can find past papers Or any of Lecture videos? Cause i really need them
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 8 месяцев назад
Hey, getting past papers is difficult as most exams are oral and the departments don’t really share past papers but try and speak to upper year students. Sometimes people have Quizlet links for past paper questions. For lecture videos, use the website: Potepedia.aok.pte (If the department has uploaded them, they will be there). It is also worth checking Teams and department specific websites as the anatomy department have their own website for example. Good luck!

Can you please tell about the passing grades ?
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 5 месяцев назад
It depends on the exam. In oral exams, the grade is determined subjectively by the examiner based on performance on a scale of 1-5. 1 being a fail, 2 being a pass, and higher numbers equating to higher grades. In written exams, the passing grade is determined for each exam, you usually need to achieve around 60% but it can vary.

Is it possible to work part time ?
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 11 месяцев назад
There are limited opportunities for international students as it is a small city with not many job opportunities but I do see international students helping out at restaurants and with food delivery. If you studying medicine though then I don’t think you really have much time to work as the degree is demanding.

For first years, how much r u free a day is it busy ?
@CamMedLife
@CamMedLife 11 месяцев назад
It really depends on you. If you do a bit of studying each day, then you can still have free time after and avoid serious cramming towards the end. Some students chill a lot at the beginning of each semester and only start studying later but then it is cramming and you have 2 extremes…Half the semester is chilling and half the semester is no social life and studying. I recommend that you try manage your studying and free time throughout the semester and you will definitely have time off
