What to expect when buying a Jayco travel trailer 

I now have the thought of buying a camper out of my head. I will be buying a tent.

The Jayco travel trailer can have its own repair channel.

Its the dealer. We bought a new Jayco 5th wheel September 2022. Had our refrigerator fail. Our dealer submitted a claim-and within a couple of weeks, a new one was installed. Jayco approved the claim instantly. Our roof failed. Major issue. Our dealer immediately submitted a claim and within days, Jayco approved a new one. We took it in and the new one was installed in 3 weeks. Big or small problem, Couch Family RV has responded promptly and handled our issues. I am not related to them but i am so happy we drive past our local dealer and additional 350 miles to purchase from Couch. Pick your dealer carefully. It matters. Btw, this is our 6th RV purchase in 38 years

I must have been really lucky. I bought a new 2021 Jayco Jayflight 28BHS 3 years ago and haven’t had any issues. Sorry to hear about all of your issues.

After the headache you told us about, I’ve come to the conclusion, whatever I’d pay for a 5th & pickup, or a Super C, we can stay at some really nice hotels, or resorts and not have deal with all this. 🤣🤣. Best RV video I’ve seen. Thank you.

In my mind I wanted to say "they should have known" but hey, I really dig the interaction between Mike and Angie, and the way they laugh at just about everything that happens. Me, not so much. You guys really do entertain and have convinced me to 1. not to ever buy an RV, Never purchase a home that needs a ton of work, never purchase any chrysler dodge product no matter what. But on the sunny side, the boat seems to be a success and so does the new dog.

lol man I’m sorry for your troubles I had the same issues and just run with a tent and hotel every 2 days. My wife and I both have the Africa twin adventure sports and we do overlanding trips with them. Absolutely awesome machines. We have over 6000 trouble free miles and I’ve ridden mine pretty hard on jeep trails and forest service roads and some single track trails in the mountains and it’s just a beast. Congratulations

Sounds like the service and warranty department at RV leaders near Irwin pa my sister had all kind of problems with them my sister and family ended up fixing the fresh water tank and water leaks them selves I wish you folks the best of luck with your camper.

I am so glad I was in Boy Scouts. I got all the camping out of my system as a kid. I hate camping. It's stupid. You guys are crazy for doing it. I'm glad though. I love your channel. You both are incredible. Your house looks amazing and I can't believe how much work you both had to do to get it this way. I went back and watched a few videos from when you first got it and all the stuff you were "discovering". It is crazy the level of transformation that has occurred. I wonder if you can do a "Before and After" video on the house?

Not sure how I would have handled the number of ways the dealership just evidently did not seem to care in the least about anything in terms of your customer service experience. I’m sure you will get past these issues in spite of their complete lack of care.

A friend of mine asked me what was the best camper to buy, I told him there was no such thing, just buy the one you like and hope it stays together until you get it paid for. love the sound of that hemi.

Yes, wow! Oh, by the way, the refrigerator is unmounted... Amazingly bad. I'm glad you found out what happened to the awning mount.

You guys have such a great attitude. Necessary when you purchase a RV these days. Either fix it yourself or face nothing but hassles. Average RV has a 50% useful time, rest is down time in bogus repair shops.

Our Lance camper has a Norcold fridge and its the best rv fridge i ever used. It freezes stuff rock hard and the fridge is perfect temp too. I had several brand new rv but this is the first Norcold. Its a winner.

Why do things have to be so complicated. My first view. Holy cow are you guys taking the nightmare well.

Would like hearing more about that Honda Africa Twin. Good thing you have the skills to repair your RV. Feel badly for those who have to rely upon the dealer for all repairs. That deck incident could have really gone badly

Sure stuff breaks, but you need to find a service center that actually fixes stuff right! All campers break, but all your complaints are the service that wasn't done correctly, we have a Jayco had it 5 years and it's been the best quality rigg we ever had.

i bought my Jayco from them on 2016 makes me thank twice about buying another one from them thank goodness i didn't have a lot trouble with my Jayco

I used to have a jayco pop up and a 2005 jayco eagle 291rlts fifth wheel. Never had a single problem with either one. It's a shame to see jayco get absorbed by thor and turn into junk. That dealer never found a problem with your awning... they snagged that to complete a sale or new unit pickup appointment. We switched to a truck camper... Arctic Fox 990 with slide out. Best decision I ever made with rvs. We wanted a nice new one but decided on a very well kept 2007 model. No frame issues, "frame flex", no tires, axles, brakes, Inspections etc... to worry about. Also being an '07 (manufactured in 2006) it has zero lippert components because that was 1 year before they bought Happijac. If all else fails, cut your losses and try a TC! Arctic Fox, Northern Light, Bigfoot... all solid brands not owned by the Big 3.

At least your hubby has the sense to wear a seatbelt! Good luck if you ever get in an accident, that airbag is just gonna smack you in the head with no seatbelt on lol

I don’t comment often on videos, but I had too in this one. I’m on my 4th Jayco travel trailer. I’ve had one issue on ONE of the 4 and it was fairly small. It was while traveling with water in my fresh tank it would slosh out half thru the overflow while traveling. Not too big a deal. & an easy fix. You need to rethink your title. The dealer is the one you should be ripping on, but you’re looking for likes. I get it. Hence the chesty girl. We also have to take into consideration you RU-vid name. It says a lot. Especially WE ARE NEVER HAPPY. Good luck with the trailer, I hope Jayco don’t come after you, too hard.

Bet they scooped your awning for a swap out on new sale trailer that was damaged. Stole yours to get a sale, and new trailer off the lot and figured they would back fill yours when replacement got shipped and you wouldn't notice. See you at kosh, enjoy the vids. what about the old coleman pop up campers , would they work for 70% of your trips ?

I’m kinda glad we have an older ‘04 Forest river. Built like a tank, no way I would buy something post c-19 with all the horror stories.

The camco twist on gate valve works good $30 in a pinch. You can combine both gray tanks together. Also good workaround for your gray tank valve leaking Luckily, I have not had any trouble with my never chill . Thanks for theupdates

Sorry to hear about all the issues with the trailer. I was concerned when you choose that brand. IMO I would look at some better built rvs like Airstream, Lance, Arctic fox, or Outdoors rv.

Wow. Sounds like that dealer is even worse than my experiences with Camping World! I'm still rather new to the trailering thang, but I learned one thing quickly- ALWAYS inspect the camper inside and out after having it in for service, before leaving the dealer.

You guys can't really be surprised at the condition of the Jayco and the level of customer service from the dealer and the manufacturer considering your past experiences. Fix these issues and know that you'll have the best example of this model for your travels. Like you said, you can fix and maintain this trailer yourselves. Bite the bullet and enjoy your travels. When are you going to arrive? i’m getting there on Tuesday early evening the 16th. We looked at purchasing a new Jayco trailer in 2002. The 29 foot model we like had we different interior treatment colors all combined in one trailer. It looked like it was made of spare parts left over from other trailers. When I said that to the dealer, they laughed and said probably was. Looks like quality control hasn't improved at Jayco in over two decades.

Do you have mud tires or something? That's a loud humming noise like bad bearing noise.

How could you leave the repair shop without checking the repairs before you leave? Should have learned that by now. Most patient man I’ve seen.

You have to be willing to fix issues on your own with RVs. Have major issues repaired during winter.

Wow that is sad, Jayco used to enjoy a great reputation. I think with these its all about time of build. I once had a Coachman and a friend liked it and bought the same rig but two years newer. His was immensely better built, mine was a lemon. Recently my spouse was pressuring me to go with a newer version our 2019 built 2020 Epro. I said OK but were going to take this opportunity to downsize then. Ok no go then, and im happy because my pre pandemic 2019 built Epro is built solid in every way. No crooked decals. If you have had a few of these then you get it.

SAME issues with our fish house camper!! the more the dealer worked on it the worse it got. Factory took unit back and have since repaired and addressed issues. Some mechanics are very lazy.

I'm starting to think it's not just rvs. Things are so badly made now across the board. Considered a Toyota tundra truck and now they have recalled 100k of them for engines failing at low mileage. Some a few hundred miles and the engines blowing!! The Tacoma's having major transmission overheating issues. This from a brand like Toyota with legendary reliability.

Blue Ox on the run are thorough you tube inspectors that save consumers from headaches like this. Check out their channel. Most of the RVs are substandard quality selling as 2024 ,new. It seems to be a corner cutting pattern. I would only buy new if they checked out the rig first.

Angie and Mike you can get a Danby or other manufacturer of Whirlpool 110 volt 10 cubic foot dorm room sized fridge the same specs of length width and height for a third or quarter of the never chill price of almost $2,3000.00 and the food would be colder than the air conditioner

Try an Outdoors RV trailer they build them 90 percent better than anyone!

There’s a lot to be said for buying a slightly used well cared for unit. You guys will get this perfect and sell it in a couple three years and the buyer will be happy.

Sorry guys, but I would've never purchased a Jayco product. They're known for inferior workmanship. I was expecting issues. Am glad you two have a strong relationship. Let this be a learning experience for your viewers. Were all of your rv's post 2019? As a rule, the pre-Covid units were better made.

Auto companies don't produce every little item that they use to build an auto. If you bring it in for repairs they repair it. They take responsibility for the total construction and their decision for the inclusion for those parts. They don't make you contact a supplier to approve a part that was used in the build. RV companies seem like they are running a scam on their customers. They know failures will happen and this is an easy way out of making timely or any repairs. After seeing all of these "warranty" and purchase nightmare stories, I don't think I could ever walk into a RV dealer and buy one.

Quality and quality control in that industry have been going down the toilet for many years. Once it is repaired, sell it! Travel the country in your truck and conveniently stop at hotels along the way. Nobody needs this added stress in their lives. How are you able to enjoy vacations with this constant drama and expenses?

You need to give the name of that dealership. We RVers need to know this so we can ban against them. They made their riches during Covid period so now it’s time to put them out of business. Call the better business bureau in your area. That’s pathetic and happens way too often. Thanks for posting.

Chances are they put your slide topper was installed on another trailer they had there.

If you only knew how hard it is to sift thru RV warranty. No, you cannot take the part off the shelf, you must order it thru the manufacturer. They require pictures of everything (even a squeaky floor requires pics). It takes 2 to 5 days to get warranty approvals IF they don't require further pics or diag. Not unusual for one to sit there 30 days waiting on the approval, parts, and repair. It's all RV manufacturers. The most non-customer friendly thing ever.

Looks like your refer cabinet is not vented to the outside which is probably why the Furion doesn't work. The new Dometic will probably require a vent at the top and bottom as well to work correctly.

What a shame I bought in 2011 a 33 RLDS Jayco and never had any real issues expect the water valves were cheap and broke when turning under sink. As I had for 11 years and sold at a good resale price, was happy with produc.t Now I hear not just your experience but others that newer Jayco is junk Real shame that it has come to this I hope it gets better for you

I think I would stick a good residential refrigerator in the trailer.

As far as the refrigerator it has to have room for the Freon to have room to expand filling it too full can damage the compressor to much Freon could damage the compressor on the one you have so that is why it wasn’t cooling The trailer should be fixed in 3 weeks time Sorry for the problems you all are having hope you had a great 4th of July.

I would not have left that dealership without taking the effort to do a walk-through of the camper.

When a refrigerator is over charged , it creates high pressure and heat and damage internal components , like the compressor. Fyi

Sometimes it’s just operator error. And sometimes it makes good content and sometimes it just happens. I find this channel heavily cooked for good content. But that’s my opinion. Good luck in your endeavors.

After I bought a fifth wheel RV and used it for a year I started thinking about how much it was costing me every year. It hit me one day when the RV started leaking and it was only a year old why am I spending all this money to only use it about 12-15 times a year. I was lucky enough that the manufacturer fixed the problem, and I sold it got my money back. I still travel 12-15 times a year and I sleep in a nice hotel and eat great food someone else have to cook and save money. Why we waste money on these over priced boxes that we tow behind expensive trucks. Get rid of it you will be so much happier.

You said freezer was working fine but fridge only cools to 50 in other video , that doesnt sound like fuse sounds more like the door isnt sealing. Try grabbing door on both sides and lift up slightly, if door moves up a 16th then take the door off and put a washer on bottom pin enough to fill the gap it moves, then after that take a dollar bill and close the door on it over and over all the way around if theres a bit of resistance your good if theres not that a bad door seal and the dummies need to order you a new door.... 6 yrs fixing this junk ive seen it about a dozen times now
