Wildlife officials continue monitoring the mountain goats on Mount Evans for any further disease outbreaks that were previously detected in 2013 and 2019.
Mountain goat kids were observed to be suffering from severe diarrhea and almost the entire age class of kids were lost those two years due to this unknown disease. Wildlife biologists are monitoring the nannies and kids up there, collecting scat samples from June-October. Paintballs are used to mark and uniquely identify the animals for biologists to track for their sampling and surveying efforts.
